Quest: You Came to the Wrong Neighborhood; 4 days, 800 wpd Participants: Aiden Notes: Royal Guards (-2 days), Battle Mod (-200 wpd) Ryan’s week was completely swamped with a ton of things hence why this is being written Sunday night right before the update. Nothing like doing everything last minute as usual. With that little notice out of the way, on with the fighting and stuff… The human warrior stood triumphant over the Bio-Android ship guardian. Its broken and battered form was a monument to Aiden’s victory and the turning point in this invasion. With its defeat, the Bio-Android Juniors which plagued the other fighters were stopped. Their counter attack had begun. In quick succession the Saiyan fighters who had accompanied Aiden began to surround the large command ship. In a glorious display they began to rain down blast after blast of explosive ki upon the ship’s outer hull. The coordinated attack from all sides was proving successful. Even the ship’s superior shielding was unable to hold against such an onslaught. In no time at all the shields failed and the vessel was left exposed. It was at this point that a large attack cannon - one of the defensive battlements that had sprung up from the ground to defend Rein during the attack - spun about and locked onto the Majin craft. The Tuffle who manned the weapon readied the attack. A high-pitched ‘whirr’ sound rang through the air before a brilliant hue of green energy sparked to life and fired upon the control ship. The explosion ripped a hole clear through the center, cleaving it in half. It fell from the sky as a massive, flaming inferno landing in the epicenter of the city. Cheers went up from all around. With the ship out of commission the gathered Saiyans were free to use their transformation; they had their trump card back to repel the invaders. A glorious sight to behold, Aiden stood awestruck as glowing, white-gold lights shot for the sky as if in unison. The false moon technique filled the air casting their brilliance across all the enemy ships and signaling the turning point for this battle. There was a moment of quiet that fell across the city. Then all hell broke loose. Roughly two-hundred Saiyan warriors all began to transform into their beast forms all at once. They sprang up all across the city and let out mighty roars of anger and rage in the process. Witnessing this sight, Aiden was truly aware of just how terrifying the Saiyan race could be. They showed no mercy to the invading party. Muzzles open to release massive beams of energy from their gaping maws, cutting down ships all across the sky. Others grabbed enemy soldiers by the handfuls and crushed them between their grasps like breaking an egg. More still thrashed them with their tails and used those massive limbs to stomp, slap, crush, and tear the opposition limb from limb. Everything seemed to be turning around for the Rein inhabitants. Little did Aiden know, however, that the fight was not over yet. The Bio-Android he had slain was left in the crater Aiden had destroyed him in during their battle. The hero assumed the opponent was completely finished. He had sensed no life signs from the defeated monster. What he did not notice, however, was the pink goo that slowly crept into that crater and wrapped around the remains of the ship guardian infusing it with new power. A monstrosity was created as a result - part Bio-Android (which was already part Saiyan) and now part Majin. The resulting fusion of powers created an entirely new threat. To think, everything was going so well... It came without warning. The beam was massive. If Aiden didn’t know any better he’d assume it was fired from orbit from some huge space ship of some sort. No way could any one individual possess so much power. The energy attack was nearly the size of an adult Oozaru. The ferocity of the attack cut through building, enemy, and ally alike. Several Saiyans caught in the blast were left with holes in their torsos, limbs blown away, or disintegrated completely by being unfortunate enough to be standing at the center of the beam. The sight was devastating. It now looked like someone had cut a massive trench right through the entire city from end to end. Nothing but death and debris lay in its wake. Aiden had been in the sky at the time, flying about and directing men here or there to press back the invaders. He had managed to avoid the blast as a result but had a clear view of where it had come from. His eyes fell on the pink monster in question who seemed to be preparing to fire yet another blast. “No, it can’t be! He was dead!” Aiden cried. He watched in horror as the monster readied another attack. Aiden had little chance to stop him in time. He had but one option. Dropping from the sky in a nose dive he applied that bukujutsu to push him faster than free falling would allow. His crimson aura flared up around him as he shot like a bullet toward the Majin Bio-Android. He got right in front of him just as that beam was being released. “Dam--” Aiden’s world ended. Engulfed in that blast the human thought he was going to die for sure. There was no way he was strong enough to hold it back try as he might. With the level of its destructive power he was going to get atomized. There would be no trace of him left to even mark his passing from this world. Yet there was that voice, nagging in the back of his mind. ”Don’t give up! Fight!” The voice. So familiar. Where was it coming from? It flooded Aiden with a series of memories. His mind wandered to places it hadn’t been in a very long time. Something triggered inside of him. It was something he had been missing for quite some time. What was it exactly? The will to live. He had gone so long, from place to place and world to world without any real purpose. Like a sailboat caught in a storm he was set adrift for so long. He had lost his sense of purpose or his reason for even pushing on. It would be so easy for him to just give up, lay down, and die. Yet that voice reminded him of things. It reminded him of the life he left behind. It reminded him of the friends and loved ones waiting for him. How could he be so selfish? How could he just give up now and leave them behind never knowing the truth of whether he was alive or not? No. He refused. He had people waiting for him. He had people depending on him. Even now, in this time, in this world there were people who needed Aiden to help them, to save them. If he gave up now this bastard would destroy this city and Vegeta would fall. The thought of that was too much. Both feet planted firmly to the ground, Aiden’s hands pressed against that beam attack. The energy flaring off of it burned his skin and cut his flesh. The impact cracked bones and threatened to crush him beneath its power. Still, Aiden pressed on and held that beam mere feet from its source. He grit his teeth so hard he felt like his jaw would break. His muscles strained so much that he felt like the tendons would tear. His nerves were on fire with the pain of it all and the only thing keeping him conscious through it was that incredible drive and that healing aura his ki possessed. “I… won’t let you…” he managed through ragged breaths. Finally, and with a great deal of effort, Aiden managed to push back against the attack. He forced the energy beam back toward its source one step at a time. The Bio-Majinroid kept applying more and more force as if pulling from an unending well of power but still Aiden pushed it back. The human’s body taxed to the limit as he closed that distance. One step. Two. Three. The ground cracking beneath his feet he kept getting closer. Four steps. Five. Aiden was right in front of the monster now. “This planet… and its people…” He looked the Majin monster square in the eyes. “... are under my protection!!” With the last bit of his strength Aiden threw the beam back at his foe and aimed it skyward with both outstretched arm. The redirection caught the ship guardian and shot upward avoiding striking any more of the city. The monster riding on the end of the beam screamed it agony at it tore it to shreds before finally it erupted in the skies over Rein. The resulting explosion caught the Majin bubblecrafts like a chain reaction causing each one to erupt along the way. The red hue of the beam slowly dissipated across the atmosphere leaving a strange afterglow on the horizon. With this final act, Aiden’s body finally gave out. He fell hard to the ground and lay there for a few moments listening to the sounds of the battle fading in his mind while the darkness of unconsciousness crept in to claim him. Quest: Super Soldiers / 900 wpd / 1 Day Participants: Aiden Notes: Battle Mod (-200 wpd) The aftermath of the battle was not pretty. The soldiers that were sent there by King Vegeta were left completely aghast at the sight of what was once a healthy, prosperous city. It was as if an entire war had been fought just within its confines. Dead from both sides littered the streets. Debris from buildings and spacecrafts lay in every direction. Even the Tuffle's battlements (of which were now public knowledge) had been mostly destroyed. Rein had seen better days to be sure. And still there was that beacon of hope that held fast. The day had been won. The inhabitants of New Vegeta would not be playing host to an outside force. The Majin menace had played a dangerous game trying to get a foothold on this world. The Saiyans (and Tuffles) who lived here had proven once again to all the planets of the galaxy that no one fucks with New Vegeta. And it was all thanks to the efforts of one brave man. An outsider. A human. He had no reason to lend his aid. He had no reason to lay down his life for their cause. They were not his people. This was not his home. Yet, in spite of these flaws there he had been when they needed him most, fighting alongside the warriors of Rein and leading the charge to repel the invaders. It was by his own hands that the strongest member of the invading force had been defeated and with it the chance to drive back the opposition. The city of Rein stood because a single human refused to back down in the face of numerous odds. While those living there were calling him a hero, Aiden's fate was still hanging in the balance… We go now to a small craft heading toward the capital of New Vegeta. It was being used to airlift the injured across the city to medical facilities outside of Rein. Aiden was currently laying in a bed on that transport, barely able to stay conscious. The painkillers they were pumping him with were part of the cause for it. Pain flowed through his body. He had not been in this much pain since he had fought against Emperor Foon. Yes, that was it. He was a Namekian tyrant who had come to Earth seeking the Dragonballs. It was Aiden, when no one else would, who stood up to him and stopped his destruction of the planet. But that had been so long ago. In fact, to Aiden it seemed like another life. Why was it coming back to him now? Through blurred vision, Aiden’s gray eyes fell upon the face of a female Saiyan leaning over him. It appeared that she was tending to his various wounds. A nurse perhaps? It was so hard to focus he could not be sure. He attempted to sit up but his body refused to respond. Instead Aiden would reach out a weak hand. He grimaced from the pain that shot up his arm in the attempt. “Rein…” The nurse turned to Aiden, seeing that he’s awake. “Hey, take it easy. Rein is fine. You saved the city. They’re calling you a hero, in fact. Heard King Vegeta wants to thank you personally.” The woman didn’t understand. Aiden’s voice barely worked but he pushed out the word again. “Rein.. ah…” Those memories. So clear now. The fog in his mind was lifting. He was recalling who he used to be. The life he had. The worlds he’s seen. Being so close to death must have triggered something. “I’m sorry, dear. I don’t understand. You need to stop pushing yourself. You’re lucky to be alive! Now, lay back and try to get some rest. We’ll be at the hospital soon” The nurse reached over and pressed a button on a small console. The resulting morphine injection calmed Aiden’s senses and slowly lulled him back into unconsciousness. A single word held on the tip of his tongue as he passed out once again. “... Reina…” --- Elsewhere, in the city of Rein amidst all the rubble and debris and buried beneath a half standing building was a single, red chest. The latch was sealed shut but a faint glow seemed to come from within forcing it open. There inside lay a single crystal ball of unknown origin. Painted across its milky white surface was a strange, golden symbol. A voice seemed to come from within the sphere, calling out with urgency. Calling a single name. ”Aiden!” And with that cry, a crack formed at the crown of the crystal and the symbol upon its surface faded... |
