1.f3 is a super strong move to prevent 3 chains, because many responses that somehow try to split the board seem to lose immediately. Whilest that's a given there's this weird playing style we use to call balance: player 2 does not aim for a specific number of chains but keeps both the option for 1 and the option for 3 chains alive, delaying his decision until reaching an advantageous position. It's ultra complex to fight that playing style as player 1, but f3 strongly supports it. 1.f3 2.h9 for example is super strong for player 2. My opinion is that there's easier ways for player 1 to win, when using a different opening line, but top players kept using 1.f3 for quite a while. Do you think that one should keep playing 1.f3? The notation is the same like the trmph-board uses. Also take a look at my attachment. It should explain everything. Edited by sqAree, Jul 3 2014, 04:07 PM.
