Should look for a new place to hunt, but I'll be after something close to home and WITHOUT having to pay for it. No problem doing some work in exchange, or some other arrangement, just feel that I shouldn't have to pay to hunt for something that runs around everywhere. Or at least everywhere BUT where I'm at currently. That's just me, others may be fine with a lease. Anyway, lots of good hunting spots down in that area. Too far for me to travel all the time to hunt even if it didn't cost me. But close enough to stop by and meet anyone who decides they want to give it a go. I can shake hands with anybody. And no, that's not a hint to let me hunt. Just an offer for a meet and greet. Thanks for the post, JJ. |

OK let me get this straight, you can lease land just to hunt on? Boy does that go against everything I was brought up to believe. Not saying it's wrong cause [L] there seems to be a lot that goes on that is so different from around home it's unbelievable. Up here it would be illegal to charge someone money to hunt on our land. I think it may be changing though cause we got citidjits buying land and removing it from use by others just because they have tooooooooooooooooo much money and no real minds. Had an NHL player buy 2 sections[1280 acres] that had been huntable by most everyone that he thought was a good place for no tresspassing signs. Imagine his surprise to find how much he was hated when he crossed the fence on to others land. |

Here in Illinois it's getting crazy around here anymore because out of staters have come in and pay exorbinate(sp) prices for places to hunt. The 137 acres of ground right next to a piece I hunt right down the road was leased this year for $6,500 plus an extra $1,000 for the landowner to leave 4 separate 1 acre pieces of soybean plots to be left in the fields for feed for the deer. I know this because the 2 hunters who leased it rented my man cave out in the garage for 10 days from me. For being stupid I charged them $750 for that privilege. I figure if that news starts getting around of how much these small woodlots are bringing that some of us locals will start losing a lot of hunting ground around here soon. That is pretty much what is happening in the whole state anymore, and that would take all the fun out of it for me to have to pay that kind of money to go hunting. It used to be around here as Dave said, you could either just ask to hunt or go up and offer to do some work in exchange for hunting rights around here. Things are sure changing around here because of the size antlers that you see on the hunting shows anymore.

That crap about people leasing hunting land has pretty much screwed up hunting around here for local huters too, unless you own your own land it gets tough to find a good spot anymore! |
