A long time ago, far away from here, there was a huge castle. The owner of this castle was Lord Baltor, one of the king's best friends. Once he had to leave to another country to complete a quest. He asked his faithful servant, Balthasar, to look after the castle. The winter was especially harsh that year and already in December there were blizards and storms. One night the snow was comig down so hard you couldn't see anything, anything at all. The people from the castle were snug and warm, sitting in front of a fire and telling each other stories. At midnight Balthasar heard someone knocking on the kitchen door, it was an old woman asking permission to wait for the blizard to cease. Balthasar told her to get out and slammed the door. When he was just about to leave, the door opened and there stood the queen of fairies. The queen turned Balthasar into a pig and disappeared. When the other servants came down, they found a pile of clothes and a whimpering pig underneath. Not knowing what to do, they decided to await their master's return. Lord Baltor returned a year later and ordered to host a dinner. The pig was supposed to be prepared in the most fashionable manner and served. On the day when Balthasar was to be killed, an old woman knocked on the kitchen door. Hoping that it was the queen fairy coming to his rescue, the pig led the woman into the kitchen and even brought her a chair. Of course you think that the old woman is going to turn into a fairy and save Balthasar, but you're wrong. The woman was just a beggar. Destined to be a pig forever, Balthsar ran away from the castle and lived happily never after. (I wrote the story when I was 7 or 8 and this is the original version. No modifications made.) |
