So, going forward, this is what's in store for the ST Game.
So let's take it from the top. The point system will be a GM system wherein during each mission, you'll earn points based on what you've done, how you did it and so on. But the idea here is that the GM isn't going to tell you what gets you points, because that's going to just railroad people into a play style, and this still is about the stories we weave. Instead, the points will be adapted to recognize things like if you tackle a situation creatively, play to your force's strengths, or just getting things done in general. The points then can be used in several ways. Each ship will have a rating based on the departments on their ship, which are:
These will affect your ship's overall effectiveness, and by upgrading each department, you improve your ship's effectiveness in situations that the departments handle. (And yes, Operations is a vague area, so bear with me here.) Each faction has ships that are not listed as available at this time because either they were redundant (and likely won't appear unless you absolutely have to spend points on something you really want) or prototypes. Prototype ships are, obviously, going to feature advanced technologies and capabilities not normally seen with the rest of the fleet. Gaining command of one, even temporarily, is a high mark of praise, but losing one can be very bad. Finally, there are advanced technologies out there that can be fitted to your ship, improving it greatly in countless areas. And now we come to the difficult part. Going forward, players will be limited to TWO (2) ships. You can request more temporarily with your points, but frankly, 4 is too many to make an effective story. Anyone who has more than 2 can finish up their current missions with their established task force, but must downsize to 1 to 2 ships before posting in their next mission. You can also choose to just restart the current mission you are on with just the two ships, just let the GM (me) know. All ships are considered to have "stock" equipment and no special systems or abilities until upgraded.
This is effective immediately. Additional weapon systems and torpedo types will be made available as part of the upgrade system. |
