Roleplay Rules

I'd like to have roleplay as free for all as possible, as this reflects realism. That being said, as important as realism is, the primary goal of our Roleplay is enjoyment - and sometimes realism must be sacrificed. Thus, I will outline here all of the limitations and rules of RP in The Elmordia Coalition. Many of these rules are limitations, but rewards for high quality RP will see caps raised and rewards.

Core
- All Nations must have a population between 5,000,000 and 200,000,000. Your population does not have to be the one from NationStates. Remember bigger does not mean better, and consider the amount of land you control, and how hospitable it is.
- Any stats not dependent on population are to be taken from your nation's NS Tracker page, provided they abide by all other rules.
- If your actual RP population is within the population constraints, and is the population you RP with, any stats dependent on population may be taken from NS Tracker
- If you RP with a different population to the value on NS, then use per capita/citizen models to calculate stats dependent on population. For instance, to calculate GDP, multiply the GDP Per Capita (as per NsTracker) by your RP population.
- Our RP World is 'Modern Tech'. This means that technology that exists IRL, exists in IO. Technology which doesn't, doesn't. Nations which rely on outdated tech are possible, although not recommended. If something is possible with modern technology, yet doesn't exist, consult someone before RPing with it.

Budgets and Economics
- All Defense Budgets must be between 1% and 5% of your budget. If per NS Tracker you spend more or less than this, reallocate points from or to other areas.
- All GDP per Capita values must be between 10,000 and 40,000. If it is outside these realms, round up or down accordingly.

Map
- Each member may claim up to 15 plots on the map.
- Claims of each must be adjacent to one another, or only separated by a small distance if overseas.
- Be considerate when claiming territory, and do so to facilitate fitting as many nations as possible on the map.
- Keep in mind the terrain, climate and hospitality of your claim, and how this effects your nations society, culture and economy.
- The Map of Elmordia defines all which exists in our RP world. There are no off-world locations, nor landmasses outside the realm of the map.
- The Map will only be expanded if it is deemed necessary to facilitate more nations.
- The Map is the size of a Mercator Projection, and can be assumed to fill a globe. Any warping however, unlike the real Mercator projection, is disregarded.
- The Landmasses, Oceans, and Geographical features of the map are not named to begin with, and can be named by lodging an application in the appropriate thread
- Cultural Heritage Sites (man made monuments) are indexed to prevent overlap, and can be claimed here
- Natural Heritage Sites are indexed to prevent overlap, and can be claimed here

Ethics and Sportsmanship
- Keep in mind that the purpose of our Roleplay is to tell a story, and enjoy telling it. The aim is not to have the largest, strongest, most powerful and wealthy nation.
- Godmodding is strongly frowned upon and will be stamped out firmly if it is identified.
- Particularly in war, make sure concessions and gains are realistic and reasonable. Do not expect to absolutely steamroll a country, and do not expect to be impenetrable. Wars should not be fought with the intention of 'winning'. They should be fought with the intention of telling an interesting story and enriching RP.

Hopefully with these in mind we can enjoy fair, fun and realistic roleplay!
