"Parents, during the month of February, Western Union students have been studying Black History. On Tuesday, February 28, WUES will participate in a Black History Day. We will have speakers from 8-10am. We are encouraging students to dress in 'African American attire.' If you do not have this, students could wear animal print clothing or shirts with animals native to Africa (zebras, giraffes, lions, elephants, etc.) Thank you!"

This letter was sent home to elementary students this past February. It got posted on a GLBT support website, for its racist undertones. The school said it was merely "poorly worded" though the school also said that it "had been sending similar letters for the past three years and this was the first complaint."

Not totally sure how this shit could be worded better. I suppose they could say "native tribes of Africa" attire but I don't think animal skin is all that common anymore. Also how to African American's really dress that differently then us. I know like two black girls that have like four of the shirts I have and consider my favorites. Soooooooooooo relevant? Or were they suggesting kids wear gang stuff... ALSO RACIST. Yeah nooooot totally sure how this can be worded better.

Funny tho.

Surely getting the kids to do a essay on a famous African american would of been more appropriate :/
