On March 14, the finalist Jermaine Jones was disqualified for concealing arrests and outstanding warrants. Jones, however, denied that he had concealed his previous arrests, as he admitted his arrests when he signed up for Idol. A police official in a New Jersey town where he was the target of two arrest warrants said that "the case wasn't big enough to merit going after him", and that for the show "to expose, embarrass and interrogate a young man without an attorney in front of 40 million viewers was an outrage". Critics suggested that the show may have staged the disqualification to boost ratings.[56] When asked about speculations that producers had prior knowledge of his criminal past and that the producers were simply out to exploit him on-air, Jones replied that "I haven’t even taken my mind into that and why they did what they did, because then I’ll drive myself crazy"

Now, I don't actually watch this show. But I was watching Kitchen Nightmares on hulu to catch up and they kept playing the idol commercial saying that someone got disqualified, after the fifth commercial I got curious and looked this up. That's what I found and all I have to say is what the fuck? How is that fair? I know producers have a hand in this stuff, but I believe this guy when he says that he told idol whoevers about his arrest, and the fact that the cop was like "eh, it's not big enough to chase him."

From a company standpoint and reality television, this is fucking gold, as a human this is the biggest douche move ever (in my opinion).

What do you guys think? Did he tell them and this is a push for ratings or did he actually break the rules? Either way should it have been televised?

I've never cared about AI, like I have watched auditions when it first came out like season one and two, but like I said so many commercials and I was like what did he get disqualified for? And when I read that I was like? WTF really? Not cool

it was actually shown on TV. Thats pretty low and done solely for ratings. If he broke the rules then fair enough kick him out, but not on TV, thats humilitating and heartless. I believe he probably did tell someone or put it in some form or something but maybe the wrong person/form so they exploited it. thats a pretty shitty person who made the call to actually do it
