All Hello! If you have decided to picking up this novel, I would make the bet of you are already being on your way journeying! But, you must think, where does this woman who speaks broken language think she may be? Well, I shall this, I am most certain I am experienced enough to tell you all you need to know to identify all these creepy creatures! I am named Osippe, and I am of the Tuiz tribe, have exploring Arwel from it's front and back because I love it very so much! Many times have I come across these monsters, and I possess no prowess for fighting, yet still manage to survive! This is because I am of great knowledge when it comes to these beings, and soon you will be too! My words shall be edited by a very nice lady, who says all my exclamation points are very annoying! I hope I help, all my friends! Anti-Loves: Figures of blackness, they are rumored to be born from the hatred and despair of man. They are often seen traveling in groups, and are surprisingly passive - even when attacked, they are stagnant and will only cradle themselves. However, they are noted to commit mass suicide in the wilderness or when they have snuck their way into a large city, jumping off of building holding hands. When they impact, they release their pussy purple blood that sends disease into the air and is acidic to the skin. This is the leading theory to how they learned to repopulate, as the illness and suicide scene is enough to cause despair in most. Drop bears: Fuzzy creatures, originally thought to be a dwarfed bear with gray fur. They have long fangs that reach outside of their mouths, and are extremely territorial and attack on sight. Sometime ago, some sadistic wizard of great power put a spell on them that allows them to warp wherever they want. Whether it's voluntary or not is unknown, but this has required all major landmarks to be charmed so as to avoid any drop bears coming by. Man-Eating Tree: They see you. Usually only found in the more treacherous parts in Rar'vixa, they are cursed trees whose roots trap unsuspecting victims in the wilderness, wrapping them up before they are thrown into and gnashed against the tree's wooden maw. They do not speak, but sometimes you can hear them breathe. At that point though, it's probably too late. Crazed Warlocks: There is no concrete origins for these dark magic users. Some wanted more power then incantation could give, more knowledge then ESP could bring, a higher transcendence then the divine, and others wished for any kind of magic at all. Regardless, they turned to demons to grant them new skills, and lost either their souls or sanity because of it. Possibly both. Now they are left alone to their own, and others, destruction. Jiang-Shi: Arisen corpses from Gulaong who have not been able to find rest. They hop around during the night, legs unable to move from one another, and their arms outstretched with gnarly nails at the hands. They feed on the blood of whomever they can find, and become much stronger and faster when they smell a good meal. Blobs: They began as formless gunks of alchemical excess, but have since become taking shape and copying those they consume, whatever that may be. This had led to a sub-category of blob people, who were once ordinary people who have been consumed by the shapeless masses, and have begun to form their own culture around the swamps of Arwel. They have been consuming less presently, seemingly satisfied by what they are now. Ahklut: An extremely large, shapeshifting species of whale who can turn into a bipedal wolf-like creature if it reaches land, where it goes hunting for food. A favorite method is waiting on the top of a small cliff ledge on unsuspecting prey, turning back to it's large whale form when jumping onto said prey, and then returning to it'd bipedal form to retrieve and eat what was left. This technique has given them a strong scent of both wet dog and dried blood. Hellhounds & Devils: Dogs of firey wisp, come from below to torment anyone in their path, accompanied by their horned masters. From the underworld come these beast and red humanoids, who seek to tempt those with sin in their heart, and induce bodily harm to those outside of their temptation. The dogs are used to sniff out any potential victims, and the devils simply bring their charm and ability. Wendigo: Stark white beings who reach gigantic heights and live in the dark regions of the frozen wilderness. They are nearly featureless, having no chin, ears, or lips. They only have milky white eyes and moldy teeth, a pair of antlers sprouting from their head. They're long limbs and digits are what they mainly use to catch their prey. Monkfish: Creatures from the sea, who often stand idly by lakes and ocean shores. They have nearly perfect posture, their scales assorted in such a way it looks like holy garb and a smiling human face, and create a deep, hollow noise that resembles that of a religious hymn. This can often attract unsuspecting victims who come to join in the infectious tune. Once close enough, the monster grabs the prey, and drags them underneath the water, never to be seen again. Bandits: Not monsters in the sense we understand, but probably the most plentiful predator a traveler will come across. People who have been jossed one way or another into this kind of life aren't ones to take lightly, and know how to catch others off guard. They often wear cloaks and masks of green and brown to blend in with their environment. Minhocão: Great and gigantic earthworms who scour the outskirts of Kholcarkhah, mindlessly eating any drifters on the lonely desert. They are black in color, with a slight tint of violet, posseimg only a mouth that forms or a full circle filled with rotating razor sharp teeth. They are the reason the griffon riders of their country fly so high. Tikbalang: Once, they were just another species of beastmen. They were closest to the humans in terms of status and appearance, having only long tails to differentiate them. but matters changed once "The Mass Poach" occurred. Due to their status, they were the most hunted down, and their numbers reduced to dozens. Their pride was too high to let themselves go extinct, but also too high to seek help. This led to inbreeding...and now we have them as they stand today: Horse heads that lie on human torsos and miniscule hoofed legs, stringy and muscular arms longer than their entire body that they use to crawl around at amazing speeds, mentally crippled and physically terrifying. Harpies: Some historians have pondered if these creatures were also once beastmen like the tikbalang, but no records have shown that to be the case. Whatever the case, harpies are gigantic birds possessing the faces of human women that settle up in the mountains, traveling only in flocks. They seem to mostly hunt mountain lions and bears, but will eat humans if food is scarce. Treasure Chest Monster: Whether you call them "Mimics" or "Tricks" or what have you, the tale behind these creatures are the same: A long time ago, there was an old man of great riches who was dying, and very lonely. He asked one of his few friends, a mage, to make sure he was remembered always. This mage, knowing his friend had only became wealthy due to incredible luck, gathered all the gold and jewels and put them inside chests that he dispersed in random locations around the world. However, he also created monsters of avarice, who'd serve as decoys and consume any treasure hunter who opened them. They keep their unlucky person inside them till they are near death and insanity, and then spit them out to serve as a lesson, to not be so swallowed in greed like the mage's friend. Banshees: The spirits of spurned and heartbroken women wandering the places they have their fondest memories, who's cries are full of pity and sadness. This often attracts soft-hearted people who come to check on the wail. This vexes the ghosts, but are enchanted of having someone care for them once again. So the banshees sing, captivating the person, whose own spirit is being drawn out while they are hypnotized. Death comes as their souls leave their body, and the banshee embraces this new spirit, vanishing from this world to love and be loved with one another, forever and ever. Cyclops: Huge neanderthals with sallow skin and possessing a single eye, who wear nothing more then a loin cloth of rags. They have meaty, three-fingered hands they use to smash and grab whatever is in their way. They are incapable of moving backwards, and get dizzy and motion sick very easily, so running around in circles is a very effective strategy to outwitting them. The downside is that one must be careful of the corrosive vomit they produce, as it will melt your skin right off. |
