One thing about XII is money is very hard to come by and needs to be spent wisely, something most rpgs fail to do. Sadly you rarely have enough for luxury things like chocobo transport.

I'm finding it decent so far. At the moment, going from the battle system in X-2 to XII is just unbelievable, I think it's growing on me slowly though. I'm not fully against the battle system, just hoping it will open up a bit more as the game progresses. The whole licence system feels a bit bizarre, and I can now relate to that picture you posted!

The Gambit system is what really makes the battle system work well, it's a like XIII's automation except here you control the automation entirely or don't use it at all (but its a bit slow then). Flow isn't as big a deal as in X-2 or XIII but instead positioning is a factor that's really important with things like AoE attacks and keeping yourself in range of your healer etc which is stuff you don't traditionally need to think about in Final Fantasy.
License System is just like the sphere grid except more open ended and gear added instead of just skills and attributes. I don't mind it at all, it makes gearing a lot more tactical than just filling your bags with everything in the nearest equipment slot. When you move your characters round the board a bit it suddenly isn't an option for you to use that new sword on a character you've been moving in the directions of bows for.

I'm sure it's all just a matter of adapting to the unexpected. Who knows, I might even praise it by the end! After my years of relentlessly saying it sucked(based off about 3 minutes of gameplay.)

Lucky if I even got the part where Vaan was introduced. I remember starting it, and thinking Hmm this is a bit weird to play and far from what I was expecting, then I either went to my mothers or possibly camping and then never went back to it.

The glamourous life of Vaan. Fighting rats in the sewers again.

Not looking too bad for a princess who took her own life in grief.

The first mid-boss, flans have never been too threatening once you have magic.

I like how they kept the cheesy celebration fanfare for special fights.
