Launched 2100, equipped with stasis pods, quantum radio, and the fastest engines known to man. Scouting mission for a colony ship, the UNC-10000 (The Earthseed). A starship at the peak of human engineering for its time. While it would eventually be surpassed, that which surpassed it would not survive as long as the Seeker has.

The Seeker’s crew had a simple mission. If, at any point, a candidate for a suitable planet was found, or contact from Earth ceased, the crew were to be awakened. By the time the Seeker reached its halfway point on the transgalactic arc, Earth had an empire spanning several star systems — and a massive fleet ready for anything. Or so they thought.

It began with the Glitch, an event of unknown origin believed to be a memetic attack from one of Earth’s alien enemies (made, of course, in the later years of Earth’s imperial period). The effects were small at first, the occasional misfire and the slight wavering in economic forces among smaller, less traded companies. But as the Glitch spread throughout the Internet, it began to wreak worse havoc. Generators would be rebooted on an hourly basis, warships would target their weapons on themselves, and the global economy, once carefully managed, began to swing wildly, with enormous upswings followed by crushing downturns.

Of course, eventually Earth got the last laugh when they uploaded the evolved form of the Glitch to their enemies’ computers. Eventually the computers performed a coordinated shutdown, fried from the inside out. Only the most basic functions survived.

The Seeker and the Earthseed, whose only contact with Earth was a signal on the Quantum Radio, went into emergency mode when the signal stopped. On the Earthseed, this meant switching from stasis mode, which required a certain amount of heat regulation, to deep stasis mode, which only involved the continuous generation of oxygen, a feat far easier than the careful climate controls enacted by the initial stasis protocols.

On the Seeker, this meant the crew awakened. Now, the crew of the Seeker must search to find a suitable home for the Earthseed while simultaneously battling certain elements who plan on making survival in this post-apocalyptic nightmare much harder.

Great. Crew, I understand you’re a little disoriented from being yanked from stasis, but something’s gone wrong. Earth isn’t transmitting anymore. And that’s bad news. Now, by my map, Earth has a former colony world they abandoned for… hell if I can remember the reason. But it’s somewhere around here, so we can still finish our mission, and land people on this new world.

The Earthseed is, for all I know, the last of humanity. I hope she’s not, but if she is, we’ve got a world to rebuild.

I’d point you to it, but there’s one teensy little problem. The nav software’s been buggy for about fifteen hundred years, and the tech crew back home is about half a million years dead. I can point us in the general direction… but that’s about it.

Don’t worry about the colonists, they’re safe. Sleeping like babies, assuming that babies sleep in deep stasis on a ship that’s trying not to overheat itself and also trying not to lose power. HANG IN THERE, HONEY! YOU’RE DOING GREAT! No, seriously, she’s doing amazing. This long and not one power failure? Not one life lost? Not one tube even dinged slightly? And they wonder why I’m in simulated love with her.

Anyway. Please confirm your identities by filling out the provided dossiers. Thank you and have a nice day, and if you’re not on my list, I guess it’s out the airlock with you!

Notice: Per UN and ECO-ACC (Earth Colonization Operation — Aerospace and Corporate Command) request, not all of you are military. Those who aren’t military have been awarded the honorary rank of Corporal by the United Nations. Your spouse and/or children have been successfully placed in stasis aboard the Earthseed, so you will not have to worry about outliving them. Thank you and have a nice day.

((So yeah, this is me running a (very) soft sci-fi game. There are aliens, and there are other details I'll outline later, but for now, this is the combination signup and interest thread. Death will be a possibility, but the ship will try not to let it happen. Speaking of which...))

Name: UNC-9595, Radio Designation Seeker, Nickname “Ship”
Age: Old enough.
Gender: Programmed male.
General Appearance: ...I’m the ship, smartass. Although both I and my sweetie have synthetic bodies on board her, not that you’d be able to access them.
Personality Survey Results: AI is compliant, loyal, and precise. His ability to report information is second to none and his powers of deduction are well above all but the fastest designated supercomputers, thus making him perfect for this mission. We predict a perfect success. (...yeah, this was written before I spent five or six hundred thousand years floating in the void of space. It may be just a little out of date.)
Personal Skills: Running the ship, self-repair, a sparkling sense of wit for an artificial lifeform created when I was.
Personal History: I was created in the year 2095 as an experiment in artificial intelligence. In order to further my education, in 2100 I was placed aboard the UNC-9595 as its shipboard computer. I’ve spent over half a million years on this place, and most of my talking companions are dead. This includes the humans, the computers, and pretty much everyone except my sweetie.
Reason for Acceptance: They couldn’t kick me out even if they wanted to. I’m kind of the computer for this thing.
Possessions Brought On-Board: Me, the radio, me, stasis pods, me, a few token weapons systems, me, a pretty damn sweet radar setup, and oh yeah, me, since I’m kinda the ship’s computer.

Please allow me to introduce myself, I'm a man of wealth and taste...
Hmmm. This long and no real RP action... I'll give this a go, methinks, though I would like to work with you on my profile so I know about what you're looking for on it.

As well, my most sincere apologies for waiting nearly a month to say.
