![]() Character Name: Benhamen Jameson Gender: Male Age: 31 Primary Attribute: Charisma Secondary Attribute: Perception Skills Leadership Guns, Small Swordsmanship Craftmanship Seafaring Personality To summarise Ben with a single word would be difficult, though the most fitting would have to be 'observational'. The man doesn't miss a thing, an unexpected trait considering how quiet he usually is. Keeping the majority of his thoughts firmly locked away, speaking only when necessary, the man's charismatic attitude often catches folk off guard when approaching him. For a man in his shoes, Ben's honest. He has his own code, not one to follow the rules of others, and generally acts and speaks to only do good for himself and those he holds dear. He's known, on some rare occasions, to have quite a short fuse, but most of the time he's able to bring logic and a steady calm to situations where others might be more on edge. Appearance Benhamen relies on his words and wits to prove himself, paying little heed to his physical appearance when it comes to impressing others. He wears an old tunic, pants and coat, rarely feeling the need to track down new threads, his boot grimy and cracked all over. He is quite tall, at least to the average folk, and slim at best. The frailness of his build works to his advantage, though, making for a man with speed on his side as opposed to strength. Unless for some reason limited, Ben usually has a pair of pistols tucked into his belt as well as his favoured blade, a rapier claimed from his very first prize. His face is dirty, usually laced with an untamed beard, and his hair snakes lazily down his back to just below the shoulders. Gear Ben is rarely unarmed, as most in his line of work tend to be, comfortably equipped with a pair of pistols and his rapier. Aside from such, his belt is always home to spare powder and shot, as well as a short dagger tucked in the back. A third blade, but a knife, is strapped to the inside of his left boot, concealed away beneath his baggy trousers. Aside from the weapons, Ben never goes far without his two, near identical, silver rings - one firmly locked onto his right middle finger, the other hanging from a leather strip around his neck. The origins of the pair are mostly unknown. History Benhamen was the second son to Esther and Louis Jameson, lowly farmers who lived some way inland from Port Farmont. The second of three children, his older brother Henry and younger sister Edith, Ben was always a mix of a guardian and a child. His family has little prospect to offer, both parents doing little more than working what crops they could to get by. It was a quiet, laborious, testing way to grow up, and much of Ben's discipline and understanding of the human condition came from those early years. It was in his late teens, months after their father passed away to natural disease, that Ben and his older brother had a falling out. Henry, now the eldest male in the family, took on the role of their deceased father. His personality didn't fit, at least in his younger brothers eyes, and only a few small mistakes in tending to the family's needs set Benhamen on edge. Confrontation led to violence, the pair always struggling to cope with their conflicting personalities, and despite the desperation in his younger sisters voice, Ben left them behind and never returned. With regret, but stubborn naivety, the young man initially struggled to make his way in the world. Living on the streets of Port Farmont, while slowly starving to death, Ben learned a lot of how the world worked. Namely, coming in contact with privateers and naval officers, he learned all about the freedom of the oceans and those they called 'pirates'. Headstrong and able to look after himself in a fight, always having been the quick and agile type, he soon started chipping away at a plan to land himself on board one such vessel. Getting involved with some unsavoury sorts, street fighting and stealing and such, Ben found himself on the fast track to life at sea. He had a knack for the environment, understanding the intentions of others and bouncing off them. It was less than a year after becoming a recluse, thoughts of his family well pushed to the back of his mind, that he landed his first position on board the freebooter vessel Irish Eyes. From there, Ben only grew. He earned scars, but also reputation, and his knowledge of the world and its oceans and its people only grew. Soon enough, his ambition grew, too. What was this man without a ship? |
