Pets

Q: What can be a pet?
A: Currently there are few animals for pets on the Island, as the original Islandfolk could not afford, or did not have the time, to bring many pets with them. Since the arrival of new people though there are a few dogs, and maybe one or two cats. Hunting hawks and other animals that would be specific to nobles are not found here, though there are so many firelizards that they are sometimes used for food. Native pern Avians are sometimes kept as pets, but are more often raised for food. In short, the few animals that are not closely guarded by someone's heart are food. Horses seem to be the one animal that are free from worrying about slaughter until they are injured past repair or grow too old to even pull a cart or plough.

Q: Can my character find wild animals and tame them?
A:
Not without express admin permission.

Q: How many pets can my characters have?
A:
2 pets per character are the norm. More may only be obtained through plot events or special permission.

Q: What's the difference between dragonets and firelizards?
A:
Firelizards, as we all know them today, were dragonets enhanced with mentasynth in order to help them gain more intelligence and strengthen the potential they already had. Kitti Ping also altered the design of the dragonet's foot to be five toes and more stable than the three foot design that nature already provided the dragonets. Firelizard genes are also more dominant over the dragonet gene and they can interbreed. Dragonet x Firelizard matings will produce a mixture of firelizard and dragonet eggs in them, firelizard eggs predominating.

Characters

Q: My character has a certain deformity or mental illness, can they still stand as a candidate?
A:
Usually the general criteria on Refuge Island is "Can you get on your Drer to fight Thread? Can you oil and wash them? Can you provide food for them?" then the answer is generally yes. People with mental disorders are usually kept away from the sands for fear of the mental health of the hatchlings, but if it is not serious or well hidden the answer will probably be yes. If you have a specific deformity or illness in mind please ask an admin.

Definite Answers

Blind: No
Deaf: No
Mute: Yes

Q: I really want my character to stand as a candidate for this hatching, but they have not yet been searched, what can I do?
A:
Be active during Search threads! Search threads will be announced, and there will be more than one. If you miss these, or were active in them and weren't searched, then you can have your character icly ask a Drer-rider or a Searchrider for permission to stand on the sands. If a Sign-Up roster is created then have them sign up! Please note that just because a character wants to stand does not necessarily mean that they will. And even if a character is searched does not guarantee that they will impress.

Q: Can my character come from the North?
A:
Yes, but Northerners will only be brought to the Island under special circumstances. Of course, all characters come from the North at some point in their lives. The original Islanders will have come from the North during the original exile, though some may be from other islands that were exiled there long before the Drer-riders and their families were.

Q: Can my character have been born on the island?
A:
Yes, but please keep in mind that the Islandfolk have not been on the Island long, and to make your character the appropriate age. If, however, they were born to an exiled on another island this age may be different. See the following question for more information on exiled-born characters.

Q: Can my character come from another island?
A:
Yes, but only a few characters will be allowed to come from another island. Keep in mind that they will have been exiled there for a crime of some sort, and the Islanders will be very hesitant to trust them. They'll usually be given the lowest or hardest jobs until they prove themselves as non-dangerous. Children from exiled will not be treated as harshly, but will still be watched.

Q: Are there any other populated islands?
A:
No, other than the few exiled people that have committed crimes elsewhere the only settlement is currently Refuge Village on Refuge Island.

Q: There are no open positions for a character I want to play! What do I do?
A:
Speak to an admin or wait for the position to open. Some positions may open up occasionally depending on circumstances, others may not. It's a case-by-case basis.

Q: Can I play a Dragonrider instead of Drer-rider?
A:
At this current time, No.

Q: How do I get my Rider character to become a Searchrider?
A:
The Senior Gold and her mate will usually pick Searchriders for each clutch, with their riders assisting and setting the criteria for the Searchriders. Everyone will have a chance to be a Searchrider someday, and if they prove good enough in their duties a character may even be placed as a permanent Searchrider.

Time

Q: How long have the original Islandfolk been on the island?
A:
The Drer-riders and their families were originally exiled 8 turns and 4 months ago. It took them a month to find an island suitable for them. Many were volcanic, some weren't large enough, or too cold, and others wouldn't have been habitable for many people. The Islandfolk found Refuge Island 8 turns ago, so they have been on the island for 8 turns. Their exile was initially started three months before they were forced to leave the Northern Continent.

Mini Timeline
Exile: 4 Months and 8 Turns ago
Drer-riders and families leave Northern: 8 turns and 1 month ago
Drer-riders find Refuge: 8 turns ago ago
First Clutch: 4 Turns ago
Second Clutch: 2 Turns Ago

Current:
-8 Turns on island
-9 Turns since the south was evacuated (Drers were developed during the same turn).
-18 Turns since Landing.
-Oldest Drers are 9 turns.
-2 Turns since the fever year began.

Drers and their riders were safe from the fever year on their island. They knew about it though and were very careful in who they allowed to the island. They are still careful as traces of it is still left in very isolated populations.

Misc.

Q: What about watch-whers or "whers"?
A:
At this time, whers are not yet avaliable for play.

Q: What if I have a question that isn't answered here!?
A:
Go ahead and PM one of the admins! If they find it a general enough question they may add it to the FAQ!
