The Season Is Currently

Short bursts of heavy rain. Clouds form quickly and clear quickly. No sign of
storms. Fish are biting well. Warm but wet with light flooding in the lowline
fields. High tides reach the sunning stones, but so far do not threaten the
village.

Welcome to Exiles! For starters if you haven't already gone through the information threads then you probably should! You can find a listing of some of the Important Links to the left of this post in the side bar! Keep in mind they aren't the only informational threads but they're what you need to get you started! If you have any questions feel free to send me a Private Message, or ask in the C-Box, which can also be found in the side bar as you've probably already noticed. If you do not get a response right away please check back, as I check in at least once every day.
Now then, you may be wondering what there is to do so early on in the game, and what there is to keep your characters from just sitting there waiting for someone else to come around and post at you. Well the answer to that is simple! New Years Festival! Here at Exiles the people celebrate new years with a wide range of games and activities, and they are always taking suggestions for activities! You get to win in character prizes such as pets (yes that includes firelizards), shiny trinkets, the right to boast, and other things! You may even win Marks! Keep in mind that Marks are an out of character currency but they can be used to buy in character items. Some events will be more roleplay in-depth than others, but even games determined by a dice roll can still produce some interesting roleplay! For example what sort of reactions would a Drer get while apple bobbing!? Or what about someone accidentally flinging a hammer or a stone into the crowd during Hammer or Stone throw!? Oh the possibilities!
Most activities will be held in the large open area between the Butcher's and the Barracks, with the games that have specified areas encircling the dance square.
The New Year Festival will have it's own forum under the village category, which will only be open for posting during the New Year Festival! Activities will be started within the next week, so have fun!
Games
Scavenger Hunt ~With clues given at the start participants are given different clues and different items to find scattered throughout the village! A great game for children and adults alike there is the opportunity to finish first and find all your items to get the grand prize, or the chance to find special prizes scattered about and hidden as some of the Scavenger Hunt items! There's no telling what you'll find! -There will be a lot of interaction from the Event Admin to drive the scavenger hunt and let characters know if they've actually found the item they're supposed to find or if they find another clue.
Thread-Games ~Everyone knows that Thread-fall is the most dangerous thing on pern, but it can even be fun! Riders and their Drers will get to burn ropes fashioned to fall in clumps like thread, and whoever chars the most "thread" wins! Whoever is touched by it is disqualified! There are first, second, and third prize winners in this game! -May involve the use of a dice.
Hide'n'Seek ~Everyone loves a game of hide and seek, but what about with a twist!? Participants will be blind-folded and paired with a Drer that doesn't belong to them! They are to then follow the directions of the Drer to find specified objects or people, and yes, Drers can participate as the blindfolded as well!
Stone Throw ~An old game with origins in the Scottish Highlands which involves the use of a heavy stone attached to the end of a short rope, chain, or with the handle directly attached to the stone. Participants have to throw the stone as far as they can, and any technique for throwing is allowed so long as only one hand is used! The farthest throw wins! There are two categories for throwing, the light (28lb stone for men and 14lb stone for women) and the heavy (56lb stone for men and 28lb stone for women). ~The Islanders use even lighter stones for children, and children are allowed to use both hands in order to keep from hurting themselves. -Results will be based on the character's apparent strength and dice rolls.
Hammer Throw ~Similar to the Stone Throw participants stand in place and whirl a hammer around and around until they release it (in the proper direction hopefully)! Hammers weigh between 16 to 22 lb for men and 12 to 16 lb for women. Some participants may have special shoes with blades on the bottom that dig into the earth to help with balance and to resist the centrifugal forces of the hammer as it is whirled about the head. Children are not allowed to participate in this event, and plenty of room is given to the hammer thrower. -Results will be based on the character's apparent strength and dice rolls.
Wrestling ~Who doesn't love a good scuffle in the sand? Participants are matched against each other either in single matches or in tournament style matches. Single match winners get small prizes, but tournament winners get a grand prize! People of all ages may participate! The first to be pinned on their back or knocked out of the ring for four seconds wins! Drers may also participate against each other! ~These will be non-violent Wrestling matches! If you seriously injure your opponent on purpose then you will be disqualified until the next set of matches! Accidental injuries do happen though, and if they are indeed on accident then the injury will be overlooked and the winner will advance to the next round! It is also understood that in a wrestling match between Drers light scratches and possibly bites are to be expected, but if the match becomes too serious then the match will be broken off and both Drers led away to cool off.
Apple-Bob ~Oh the good ol' unsanitary game of bobbing for apples! What could be better than shoving your face into an ice-cold pail of water and using only your teeth to snap up those slippery apples! Plenty of things, but we do it anyway! See how many apples you can get within the time limit! If you beat the set score you get a prize, but if you beat the high score you get a grand prize! -Will be determined by a dice roll. If your character does not win anything then each time they play they will have a higher chance of winning.
Activities
Dance, Music, & Food (Gather Square) ~A time when musicians in the village are greatly appreciated in the village. A stage is set up on the beach, large enough for both musicians and dancers alike! The tables from the Gathering Hall are brought outside and set up around the dance area, providing an open feasting area so that the music can be heard while eating, or in case anyone decides to dance mid-meal or simply wants a place to sit after a dance! There are many different sorts of music from all around old earth, and different dances to accompany them! Every now and then music or dance battles will be held and the winners get a prize! Eating games will also be held, but they will be randomly announced, so don't eat too much! Some people may also set up little stands with trinkets to trade that wouldn't normally get attention, so keep an eye out for those as well!
The Races For both horses and humans, depending on which you enter, though don't try to enter a horse race if you intend to be on foot! Each race will have differing start and finish lines, and different obstacles to try and overcome! There are also the Drer races! Participants will be paired with a random volunteering Drer. The pair must then follow their specified course, sometimes helping each other past obstacles and other times simply running alongside each other or the Islander riding the Drer! There's a catch though, the Drers aren't allowed to fly! They aren't even allowed to glide! For those Drers with problems controlling their flight instincts they may be offered wing ties, though wing ties are completely voluntary and are removed immediately after the race!
