Alchemy (錬金術 Renkinjutsu) is, as it is understood in the Fullmetal Alchemist series, the ancient metaphysical science/mystical art of manipulating and altering matter by using natural energy. This act is known as "Transmutation" and its sequence is usually described as:

  • Comprehension - Understanding the inherent structure and properties of the atomic or molecular makeup of a particular material to be transmuted, including the flow and balance of potential and kinetic energy within.
  • Deconstruction - Using energy to break down the physical structure of the identified material into a more malleable state so as to be easily reshaped into a new form.
  • Reconstruction - Continuing the flow of energy so as to reform the material into a new shape.

As an alchemist, you are classified as one of three stages. The first stage is a Novice alchemist, where you can advance to an Adept alchemist, and finally a Master alchemist. Depending on the limitations of the arc, a character will normally start off as a Novice alchemist, unless specified or given permission to make something otherwise.

Stages of Alchemy

Novice Alchemists are considered to be known as "beginners". They have limited understanding of alchemy, and aren't very successful in their use. While they can have a basic use of alchemy, such as the deconstruction/reconstruction of materials around them (the earth, buildings, trees, etc.) They do not have access to a unique style of alchemy (Flame alchemy, Chimera alchemy, ice alchemy, etc.). Novice alchemists will need to carry around some sort of item that can draw out a Transmutation Circle. Alchemists at this stage cannot use tattoos, gloves, or any other sort that skips the process of drawing otu a transmutation circle.

Adept Alchemists have gained more understanding of alchemy and are considered to be "Average Alchemists". They have a more in depth understanding of alchemy, and are more accurate and successful with their usage. They have mastered the basics of alchemy and can draw transmutation circles at a faster rate. At this stage, one may create and discover their own style of alchemy, that is unique to them; however, if someone has already occupied the specific type of alchemy you want, it is required that you learn it from them. While they cannot master it at this stage, they may advance their own usage of it. Also at this stage, a character who joins the military or finds a specific NPC/RPC to construct special gloves with a transmutation circle intertwined with it, easing the requirement of drawing out transmutation circles (ask staff members' for details).

Master Alchemists are the highest level alchemist one can become. There is often no flaw in their use, and they have a near-perfected understanding of alchemy. They will be able to use their own unique style of alchemy to full extent, with little to no drawbacks, giving them "mastery" over it. With this knowledge, you are at a stage where you can teach Novice/Adept alchemists, and even pass on your own unique style of alchemy. At this stage of alchemy, advanced and wide-scale alchemy can be performed by the user.

Advancement

To advance between each level of alchemy, certain requirements must be met:

  • Novice Alchemist: Anyone may start off as a Novice Alchemist.

  • Adept Alchemist: To become and Adept Alchemist, 10 days must pass oocly. This time may be shortened by receiving special training from a Master Alchemist.

  • Master Alchemist: To advance to a Master Alchemist, 20 days must pass oocly (Starting from the point when the character became an Adept alchemist). This time may be shortened by receiving special training from a Master Alchemist.

Miscellaneous

Human Transmutation: While it is a dark and sinister idea, human transmutation gives you access to The Gate of Truth. Because of this, certain requirements must be met in order to perform human transmutation:

  • You must be ATLEAST an Adept Alchemist.
  • You must be performing it on a dead RPC character, not an NPC.
  • You must have valid (Screenied) scenes of obtaining information of this, and learning it (talk to staff for NPC character to give info/teach about it).

Even once these rules have been met, the only successful way to complete Human Transmutation is through a philosophers stone. In this roleplay, human transmutation that uses a philosopher will result in bringing back the dead person, but in turn the person will consume the stone, and become a Homunculus.

Limitations do occur here, however. Only 5 people will be able to have gone through the gate of truth at a time; when you go through the gate of truth, staff members will be present and they will roleplay what will be taken in turn for your attempt at human transmutation. This means that only 5 people will have the unique ability to use alchemy without a transmutation circle.

Philosopher Stones also known by various other names such as the Red Stone, the Fifth Element, and more, is a powerful transmutation amplifier. Generally believed to exist only in legend, the Philosopher's Stone has long been sought by alchemists as the ultimate goal of their craft. While alchemy is an amazing preternatural art in and of itself, its scientific limitations are such that the dream of a mystical and mythical object capable of eradicating those limits is one shared by generations of practitioners. Though, in more pragmatic times, the legend of the Philosopher's Stone has come to exist only in the fanciful illusions of Romantics, the fabled amplifier is, in fact, an arcane reality.

In this roleplay, the Philosopher's stone gives power to those who wield it and takes away the requirement of equivalent exchange, meaning they can create their unique type of alchemy out of midair. These can be used for other purposes as well, such as creating a homunculus.

Philosopher stones cannot be obtained by any means other then through situations set up by staff, such as arc events, etc.
