Please vote for no more than 5 possible dates/times when we would hold the March Draft. If you want to suggest another time, please post a reply with your suggestion.

I'd vote for any time basically (didn't vote yet.) I think its important though to fill the rosters or at least come close before any draft though. Another post on sickels or projectprospect might attract some people.

I would much rather do a message board draft than a live draft...if that's an option, I vote for it.

A messageboard draft will likely take too long if we draft for as many as 5-6 rounds.

If we could at least start the draft on the boards, and then pick a date for a live draft to finish what's left, that would be great.

The reason I favor this is that weekends and evenings are when I'm off with my family or taking care of errands, since I'm not at work or at school. I spend a lot of time on my sim teams, but I do it in 5 minute bursts here or there. To do the entire draft on one day would mean that I'm probably going to have to send in a list.

That's just my opinion, but I figure I'd bring it up now in case others are in the same boat I am.

I'm willing to consider splitting up the draft into 2 or 3 live sessions that would be limited to no more than 1 hour at a time. Would something like that work for everybody?

I also am in favor of a message board draft. I work 3 jobs and am involved in several h2h leagues so a posting would be easier for me as well. We all live in different time zones and I think it would be hard to coordinate the logistics of it. I'll go with whatever is decided.

I don't think a message board draft, at least for the first round is unreasonable. I'd bet we could get it done in about 4 days if people check the boards dilligently. Most of the impact players go around then, it would be most fair to give teams the chance to not miss making an impact pick and maybe getting auto-assigned a weaker prospect.

I'm with Oakland on this one. If we can at least do one round on the boards so that the impact players can go to who wants them, then I'm fine with sending in lists for the rest of the draft if I can't make a live draft.

I think a message board draft would be great. With a live draft..if something last minute pops up and you arent prepared with a forwarded list...it could really screw you up. I will be in Florida on March 1..Its pretty definite I would miss or be ill prepared for a live draft at a set time..

OK, we have several of you now requesting a messageboard draft. I will only consider a messageboard draft if I can set a schedule with 1-2 hour time blocks set for each pick. That's the only way we will get through 4-6 rounds in a reasonable amount of time. If I post the schedule well in advance, then everybody would know when their pick has to be made. You show up to make your pick on time, or I will make the pick for you using a list (a list provided by you or one that I develop based on composite website rankings). Let me know what you think.

Well, I don't think anyone is clamoring for a full-on messageboard draft, just the first round or maybe first 50-ish picks? If people are alert and we do up to six hour windows, with people who might be away sending in advanced lists, I'd bet we can get 30 picks done in about 3-4 days and 50 in another couple. Other people agree with that time table? It is a matter of GM's taking it on themselves to be responsible with their lists etc.

Several GMs have asked for an all-messageboard draft (read above). Several more have indicated a willingness to participate in a live draft. Only two have asked for a messageboard draft for only the 1st round. I am trying to find a way to respond to everybody (not just the most vocal minority) with a compromise solution. I want the draft done by mid-March so I have some time to prepare the database for the start of the season. Two live draft sessions could have done the trick. My proposed pre-scheduled messageboard draft with set time slots could also accomplish this. If you want to suggest another alternative, please show me how it could get done by mid-March.

Why not a week starting march 1st, getting as many picks in over the messageboard as possible with reasonable time slotting (teams prep their list etc, autopicks ready for ownerless teams should there be any, and lists sent in for people who don't check super often,) and then seeing how far we've gotten, 1-2 live sessions in the week following that to do what I'd guess would be around rounds 3 until the end, with the same thing of people preping auto lists etc if they won't be there etc.

I'd say let's do the first 2 rounds on the board, then the rest can be in a live chat room. That's my two cents.
It's only the happy moments along the way, that make life worth living.

OK Guys, we will start a messageboard draft on Sunday March 1st. We will go through as many rounds as possible before completing the remaining rounds in a live draft session on Sunday, March 8th starting at 9PM EDT. Using this approach, we will have all 6 rounds completed within 8 days. After completion of the draft, each GM will have an additional week to determine which players to keep on their 50-man roster. This will give everybody another week or so to make additional trades or make waiver claims on released players before the season starts. Anybody who cannot make it to the live session on March 8th will have the option of submitting a prioritized list which I would use to make their selections. If you can't make it and you don't submit a list, we will just make your picks based on the order of the MLB 2009 Draft.

I dont know how to do a "Live" draft i would guess it would be done with the DMB game. its not that hard to set up a message board draft anyway. Max of maybe 20 minutes. I could help if needed.

Just limit GM picks to a min of 3 HRs and the draft would be done within the corresponding week.

I think you mean a MAX of 3 hours. But even that might not work, assuming around the clock drafting (not always an option for us working stiffs) it would take 30 teams * 6 rounds * max of 3 hours = 540 hours, while there are only 24 hours * 7 days per week = 168 hours per week. Therefore it could take over 3 weeks to conclude the draft...
