Appearance - Facial Appearance
-
Ruth’s face is pretty round, with no sharp lines, and smooth, rather pale skin from living in the slums and mostly being out at night. Her nose is small with a moderate amount of freckles on, her eyes large and her mouth pretty small (yet very foul) with round lips. Her appearance is somewhat similar to a doll, yet more mature and beneath her childish looks you can clearly distinguish maturity, hinting that she’s most likely older than you’d think she is. Her hair is thick and a bit messy, with a tendency to do as it pleases, when it pleases.
- Body Appearance
-
She is very, very short. Because of her magic, she's even shorter. Though her height is about that of a child, her build is not quite as child like. Her shoulders are not very wide, unlike her hips that are fairly wide, giving her a pear shaped body. This, as well as her vaguely mature facial appearance, are both hints that she is not a child, who’s body would be far less curvy. Though not particularly under- or overweight, she’s a bit on the chubby side due to her fondness for… well, eating. Her hands and fingers are fairly small, and to her annoyance, she must sometimes use both hands for tasks that would normally only require one hand.
- Clothing/Accessories
-
She’s a plain type, often wearing a similar set of clothes for long periods of time. One thing you will never see her without, is her denim shorts overall. She loves it. What she wears with it may change, but she holds different kinds of leg-wear near her her heart as well, stockings, thigh-highs, over-knees, e.t.c. Her thick, messy hair is mostly tied up in twin-tails with ribbons, and stripes are a reoccurring theme in her clothing.
Personality When first meeting her, she will most likely come off as bored or angry. She always seem to be in a bad mood, but soon enough she'll most likely crack up, often at someone else's expense. She tends to be quick witted, sometimes displaying a sense of humor, and she is surprisingly talkative once you get her going. Not that she's pleasant to listen to, her voice is very nasal and raspy, and her laugh makes you wish it sounded a lot more like rusty knives up and down a garbage bin. She does not trust anyone without a good reason, she's extremely paranoid when it comes to trust.
She loves making herself appear much better than others, feeling superior gives her a kick, she gets euphoric and all giddy when everyone else is below her. Bringing out the bad in people is something she does for fun, when she doesn't like them. Bringing out the good in people is only ever something she does to benefit herself. As in a battle, where she might make her ally stronger to defeat their enemy. She loves to feel good about herself, and thus enjoys when others are miserable.
Ruth is a spoiled kid, and it certainly shows. However, she’s not the ”cry until I get what I want” kind of kid. She’s more of a ”beat someone up until I get what I want” kind of kid. She’s not cruel, she just feels that anyone that stands between her and what she wants is clearly the one at fault for daring to cross her path. Like everyone else, she possesses an understanding of right and wrong. Unfortunately for most, her understanding of right is ”I am always right”. She does care (some) about others, but any morals or affectionate emotions are set aside when she sets eyes upon something. She does what is beneficial to her, and would put surprisingly much effort into helping someone else as it might prove to be beneficial to her somehow. As in they will owe her if she helps them.
She’s extremely confident about her own body and what she’s capable of, but possesses a very realistic self-view. Any criticism is turned back towards the one who spoke it in one way or another. If someone calls her short, she’ll taunt them that she’d beat them in a fight despite being short. If someone calls her ugly, she’ll say that at least she doesn't have to wake up looking like the one who said it does. The only thing she’s self-conscious about is her weight, but she loves food too damn much to stop. By now, she has accepted that she’s chubby, but will still beat up anyone reminding her of it. Mostly for the sake of beating them up.
Being mostly emotionally detached from reality, she doesn't quite understand people. She is only ever capable of seeing things from her own perspective, and it’s rather shrewd. Due to this, she will often come off as rude and cold, but in reality she’s just very, very ignorant. She’s the one who’ll say ”god damn it just stop being depressed, lighten up!”.
History Ruth did not come from a very wealthy family, but she came from a family which did everything it could to compensate for their lack of wealth to make sure their little princess got what she wanted. In many ways, this was the worst thing they could have done.
Ruth grew up in the slums of Hargeon Town, with a poor family in a small house by the outskirts. She was an only child, and received much love from her parents, too much in fact. As she was raised in a home where her parents often made sure she knew that anything she wanted should be hers, and that they’d get it for her no matter the cost, she learned that anything standing in between her and her desires, was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Rich kids would just receive their things as their parents bought it for them, but for Ruth, no wailing or whining would get her the expensive toys she wanted as her parents couldn't afford them despite their best efforts. They were a disappointment to her, to speak of her like a princess, but never managing to treat her like one for even a day.
But if there was one thing Ruth learned in the slums, it was that violence solved what money could not. Arming herself with a carpenters hammer, she began assaulting people who refused to hand over their belongings to her, causing all sorts of problems. Since Ruth didn't stop, it all boiled down to her parents finally turning to a life of crime in order to satisfy their daughters greed, stealing, smuggling and doing dirty work for criminals. They kept the truth from Ruth, but their actions were in vain. Ruth did not stop. Unfortunately, by now, they were in way to deep shit to get out, and in the end, they were caught by the police force. Ruth had been out playing when she was alerted by a commotion nearby. She went to investigate, and after cruising through the slums, she located the source of it. Officers of the law had caught her parents red-handed smuggling drugs.
"You fucking think you can go behind our backs, huh?!" One of the police men shouted and kicked Ruth's mother in the stomach as she lied on the floor, crying. Police brutality in these areas was not uncommon, here they could vent their anger and no one would stop them, just watch. "Well you're fucking wrong, bitch! And you!" The other man yelled, stomping on Ruth's father who gritted his teeth in pain.
Ruth watched as her parents were abused, her and the silent crowd she was standing among that had gathered around them. A voice from the masses found it's way to the young Ruth's ear. "Smuggling drugs... and to think they used to be a noble family." Ruth was speechless. She grabbed a man's coat, tugging on it. "Mister... is it true they were nobles?" She asked him, and he looked down on her. Quickly he scoffed her off to the side "Children like you should not be watching this!" He whispered to her when they had escaped into an alley. Ignoring him, she asked once more "...were they nobles, mister?" He looked at her and sighed, sitting down on the ground and patting beside him for her to sit down as well.
"Sit, I'll tell you a story." She sat down beside the man, and he began to tell a story about how there once was a family. The family had it all, they were of noble blood and lived the life among the richest in Fairyland. Life prospered, and it seemed as if it was perfect. However, they wanted more. Unlike the other families, they weren't happy with what they had, and begun to scheme. Before long, they had a worked out plan to end up as the owner of every big company in all of Fairyland. It would've worked, the man told Ruth, but one thing brought their downfall. The man's sister had been let in on the plan, and in the last few moments before it would all come together and bring them their fortune, she betrayed them and exposed them to the other rich families. In the end, they became bankrupt as the other families punishment them for their crime. Shortly after that, the woman gave birth to a baby, who's life would now play out in poverty because of them.
"So their own flaws became their downfall?" Ruth asked, after silently thinking to herself for a while. "You could say that, yes." The man replied, not realizing that the flaw Ruth had in mind was not their greed, but what brought them down in the end; unwarranted trust. "Now off you go! Play with the other kids!" The man said and smiled, waving for Ruth to run off as he picked up a bottle of booze. She thanked the man and ran off, away from her parents. But at the next street, she turned right, and back up again. She wanted to see her parents. As she made her way through the crowd, she witnessed her parents being lead away by the police, beaten up and bloody. She made eye-contact with her mother, but before her mother could speak her name, she turned away, and walked away from her parents. This time for good, she was disappointed in them.
Their failure and lack of resolve had cost her a life of wealth. She never saw them again, as they were murdered in their prison cells by criminals who wished to silence them. She couldn't care less.
Many years later...
Ruth smashed her large war hammer across the head of the man in front of her, knocking him down for good. "Anyone else wanna have a go?!" She yelled. Behind her was a bag of fresh food, lots of it. She had "acquired" it on her own, but everyone would like a share. Well, not anymore they didn't. Just as she parted her lips to speak once more, an old man stepped forward. He looked extremely old, his back all crooked and his figure so boney he was mostly just a skeleton. "May I?" He asked, and bowed. She didn't even answer, she simply roared and swung her--? What the? A thin beam of light had zipped by her and all of a sudden her hammer felt as if it was bolted to the ground. Looking back at her hammer, she noticed how it had even made a small crater in the ground. It had never been that heavy. She tried to lift it with both hands, turning her back on the man as she did so. Bubbles erupted from the hammer and Ruth fell backwards as she pulled it off of the ground with the same ease as before. She stumbled back and bumped into the man. Within seconds, a blade was at her throat. "I'd share the food with me if I were you." The man said calmly.
Ruth later found herself on a bench, sharing her food with the old man. She was not too happy about what had happened, but curious none the less. "Hey how did you make my hammer stick to the ground?" The man chuckled and looked at her. "It wasn't stuck, it was heavy. Or is it? You tell me" He laughed and kept eating, Ruth just had more questions than answers now. "Well how'd you make it heavier then, smart-ass?" She snapped back at him. She didn't have time for mind games. "Magic, my friend. I'm from Earthland, you see? I see the world in black and white, there is no gray-zone for me. And I make the black darker, and the white brighter, see?" He chuckled. Ruth had heard about tha mages from Earthland that recently had arrived through a portal, but didn't care much for them. Nor did she have time for some fucking mind games! "No I don't see how black gets darker or white brighter! They're as fucking dark and bright as they can be!" She was pissed now, this god damn old man was a pain to deal with. He sighed and looked at her. "You're not very nice, are you? Very well, I'll explain." She grunted and crossed her arms as she listened to the old man. "You see, this world is more absolute than we'd like to think. People like to think that there's some grey area, but there is not. In the end, it's always black or white. Either you're strong, or you're weak. Healthy, or ill... alive, or dead. The key to survive in this world is to understand this and..." He stuck his finger in his still warm tea, and after a flash of light, steam arose from it's surface once more. "...Learn to use it to our advantage, see?" He finished by sending another thin beam of light onto the old, rotting bench that Ruth was sitting upon and it broke beneath her. She fell down onto the ground with a quiet squeak that killer her a bit on the inside, and she looked up on the grinning old man, mildly annoyed but more curious than ever. "I think I got you, I've seen this whole black and white thing you babble about. The weak are separated from the strong, the poor from the rich." She sat upon another bench on the other side of the man. "Teach me how to do what you did! I'll do just that, make black darker and white brighter!" Ruth commanded the old man. He smiled.
Two years later, Ruth swung her hammer once more, smashing a large hole in the wall of a building with it's massive size and mass. She put down her now once more normal hammer with a sigh, and sent a beam of light lazily with her pinkie finger, which hit the wall. The rest of the wall fell to pieces like the section of the wall she smashed. "Well done, Ruth. I don't believe there's more for you to learn." The old man said, walking up to her. She grinned, and looked up at him. Over the course of the two past years, she had been practicing hard, and the magic had affected her appearance greatly. The once short, cute, mildly annoying girl was now a tiny, adorable pain in the ass. Not to mention her voice. It was once raspy and a slight bit nasal, now it made banshee screams feel easy on the ears. Obtaining food was now no biggie, and her somewhat generous weight spoke clearly of it. "Off with you. You're done. I don't feel like listening to your voice for another bloody second." She grinned and walked up to the man, yelling right next to him. "Thank you for teaching me!"

| HYPERBOLE |
|---|
Hyperbole is the magic of exaggerating prominent aspects of objects and people, whatever it may be, positive or negative aspects.
It is one of the more difficult magics there are to master, as it is a master that is completely dependent on how well the mage can compare themselves to their target in order to locate an aspect they can exaggerate to their advantage. Though rare enough for most to believe it is a Lost magic, it is in fact not. Many just does not have what it takes master it, as someone unfit would have to train many years to have the right mindset just begin the real training. Thus, most Hyperbole mages had a rather polarized view of the world to begin with, as it's pretty much needed to master it fully. It is by no means easy to master even then, however.
It manifests in a form of tiny glowing pink orbs that appears from either of her fingers, that leaves a glowing trail behind it, and she may control it around quickly by simply focusing her mind. Thus, if she loses focus it will dissipate into thin air with no effect whatsoever. And when the effects wears off, small lavender bubbles erupts from the object or person affected, only to disperse and pop instantly.
Hyperbole is a magic that depends on the perception of the mage. How it affects others and objects depends on how the mage views them. Thus, a mage who wishes to use Hyperbole magic well, must learn to be quick to judge others. The key to it all is to understand that they mustn't be correct at all when judging someone for it to work. If they view someone from a low angle and misinterpret them as tall, they may make them taller, even if the person is question is actually very short. However, an exaggeration of an aspect is broken the second the aspect is lost. So if the mage did make that short person taller, then afterwards notice that they weren't tall at all, the short person would return to their normal height as the mage cannot keep an aspect exaggerated if it no longer exists. It's limit is what the user is able to perceive, the more normal an object or a person is, the less affected it will be by the magic. A mage cannot make something or someone super normal, they technically can but it rarely has any effect at all.
What's unique with Hyperbole is that no object or person is exaggerated in the same way by two different Hyperbole mages. Everyone perceives the world differently, more so than one could imagine, and thus what they exaggerate will rarely be exactly the same. It can differ greatly from mage to mage, depending on the situation. For example, a person that's of normal height might be made taller by a short Hyperbole mage, or shorter by a tall Hyperbole mage, as the two mages have different views on the victim's height. Hyperbole does not only affect physical aspects, but may affect mental and magical aspects as well.
Though the effects of the magic is seemingly only temporary (with a few exceptions such as breaking objects or generally causing damage to something or someone), a small fraction of it remains within the object permanently. A large rock that has been made larger will never be as small as it used to be, but the effect is so minimal that it'd take a long time and hard dedication to make a permanent effect visible to the human eye. Personalities are more easily affected by this, but not because the magic lingers more to them, but rather because of the fact that they experience their change and it affects them personally. However, a mage that has mastered Hyperbole has channeled the raw magic through their body so much, that their body and mind has been permanently affected by it. This effect caps at a certain point, but is definitely visible.
As for the physical effect, the mage's body will become more exaggerated based on their self-view. A person viewing themselves as physically strong will become stronger, a person viewing themselves as thin will become slimmer, e.t.c.
The mental effects of it is an exaggerated personality, a talkative person will become more talkative, e.t.c, you get the drill. However, the mage's view of the world will also be affected. Their perception will be forever far more exaggerated than before. Ironically, while this is a side effect of the magic, it also assists the mage in judging others and locating aspects of objects that they may exaggerate.

Ruth fights with a very large war hammer, which's handle is longer than herself, and she often drags it around due to it's weight. Surprisingly enough, she swings it around with ease and it barely slows her down.
| | Little Big Hammer | Ruth's hammer is large but not really a weapon of mass destruction. However, she makes good use of it. When swinging it towards an opponent, she temporarily makes her big hammer much larger and heavier, having built up momentum already when it was light. Force equals mass times velocity, a simple equation that shatters skulls and breaks shields in two. She fights by building up momentum and gaining speed, only to increase it's mass when the velocity is at it's greatest. By doing this she can achieve a great speed quicker than if her hammer was massive from the very start, and she gains the element of surprise towards opponents that does not expect her large hammer to suddenly become much larger when it's too late for them to do something about it.
| | Welcome to Badland | No one is perfect, and the less perfect someone is, the happier Ruth gets. Whenever she is battling someone, she loves to find flaws which she may exaggerate far beyond normal. She'll make a slow man slower than a snail, a scrawny little kid more brittle than a Chinese ming vase, a sad lady depressed to the brink of suicidal, and a sick old man bedridden. In Bad Land, she's the sole ray of sunlight, and she blinds the inhabitants with her grace.
| | Freakish Friends of Mine | While her opponents deserve nothing but flaws and misery, her allies will be granted what they need to aid her in battle. She will exaggerate their strength, their size, their speed, their power, she will exaggerate what makes them worthy of being her allies. Come to Ruth and stand by her side, she will not disappoint you on the fields of battle. If your blow is heavy, she'll make it heavier than an anvil. If your fire is scorching, she'll make it melt metal like butter. If your feet are swift, she'll make you put professional athletes to shame. If your body is tough, she'll make it tougher than a cliffside.
| | I am Ruth. | And face my wrath ye shall. While she can make her friends greater, she loves exaggerating her own aspects to surpass those who are too bland to be anyone of importance. In battle, Ruth may focus on her positive aspects to exaggerate them greatly, to temporarily become a superior being to those in her vicinity. During this time, she's euphoric to the point of narcissism. She simply is the greatest there is, and she'll go far beyond even that.
| | Kick 'em while they're down! | Ruth is an opportunist. She seizes any opportunity she can to gain the upper hand, even if it means to play dirty especially because it means to play dirty. She will gladly use dirty tricks to hurt her opponent badly. Even if it means hammering an opponent who's down on the ground. She can even use her magic to worsen any injury they've suffered. If she sees you heavily wounded, those wounds will become lethal within short. If she sees you poisoned by a snake, that poison will soon burn like acid. If she sees you display any weakness at all, she'll turn it against you tenfold.
| | The Tiny Terror | She's short, and she's quick to make good use of it. Exactly how does one hit someone no taller than a few decimeters? Especially when it's darting around and taunting you. Ruth knows she's small, she knows she can't take hits too well. And thus, she'd rather avoid them. Turning small at the right moment often saves her from suffering a heavy blow. Not only that, but moving around is a lot easier as well. Only downside is that the smaller she gets, the more difficult it will be to swing her war hammer. But it's a price worth paying if it means she'll survive.
| | Beauty is Skin Deep | She might be self-conscious about her weight, but learning that one cannot always dodge, she also learned to take a blow. Though not very effective, nor really worth it most of the time, she sometimes swallows her pride and exaggerates her fat image of herself, turning into what mostly resembles a beach-ball. It doesn't help much against magic, really, but blunt strikes are far more ineffective when you have several layers of fat to overcome before doing much harm. Same goes for piercing and slashing blows as they must dig deep to locate vital organs. She doesn't even bother trying to run while like this, though she supposes she can always roll if the situation demands her to mobilize...
| Don’t DO DRUGS, KIDS | She may look like a kid, but she’s none the less a fully grown 19 year old, capable of getting hallucinogenic drugs on her own. Having a magic based on perception, she swallows a pill or two during battle to hallucinate things that she may exaggerate, projecting them into reality to abide to the odd rules of Hyperbole. In essence, she slips into her own freakish, fucked up world by taking drugs, and forces things from it to obtain physical form in the “real” world. This could amplify everything she already does by adding monstrous effects her shenanigans, or simply create beasts and weapons from her “Alice in Wonderland gone-bad” world to assist her in battle. Unlike, for example, exaggerating a physical object, these ...things are manifestations of her magic, objects out of this world. However, she’s not to keen on using it often as addiction could become a serious problem.

Ironically, while this is a side effect of the magic, it also assists the user in judging others and locating prominent aspects of objects.

Ruth fights with a large war hammer, which's handle is longer than herself, and she must drag it around. Surprisingly enough, she swings it around with ease and it barely slows her down.
Little Big HammerRuth's hammer is large but not really a weapon of mass destruction.
Welcome to BadlandNo one is perfect, and the less perfect someone is, the happier Ruth gets.
Freakish Friends of MineWhile her opponents deserve nothing but flaws and misery, her allies will be granted what they need to aid her in battle. If your body is tough, she'll make it tougher than a cliffside
Kick 'em while they're down!Ruth is an opportunist. She seizes any opportunity she can to gain the upper hand, even if it means to play dirty especially because it means to play dirty. If she sees you heavily wounded, those wounds will become lethal within short. If she sees you poisoned by a snake, that poison will soon burn like acid. If she sees you display any weakness at all, she'll turn it against you tenfold.
The Tiny TerrorShe's short, and she's quick to make good use of it.
Beauty is Skin DeepShe might be self-conscious about her weight, but learning that one cannot always dodge, she also learned to take a blow. |
