Character Template Name: Bastian Grimm Alias: Fae Walker Age: 25 Gender: Male Race: Fairylander Guild: - Appearance: Physical: Bastian stands tall at an outrageous 6’7, where most hunters from his village are a meager 6’3 and has the physique to match his height. Toned from carrying a rifle, his hunt, and running from spot to spot in order to get the perfect shot at his prey, Bastian’s body is one of constantly working towards the next big game. His exercise comes from the sheer fact that his line of work requires him to be ready for any situation and being quick on his toes is one of them. His hair is stark white with a wavy, bushy, and right out of bed feel to it. Bastian usually ties it up in a messy pony tail, as well as has a bandanna around it in order to keep the excess hair away from his eyes. Finally, there seems to be permanent stubble on his chin. His eyes are light brown in color, nothing too spectacular compared to some others he has seen, especially after the schism. Across his body, Bastian has various tattoos of ancient symbols from his village, one on each joint on his legs and arms and three across his neck. These symbolize various things, luck, strength, perseverance and many other things, things a hunter needs in his arsenal along with their weapons. reference Clothing: Bastian has two standard things in his wardrobe that he usually wears depending on the season. Both are coats in various weights and designs. The first is a heavier, olive coat used for the colder seasons. It’s lined with a blonde colored fur from a recent hunt of a wild, magical creature that was known to possess people and change their form. His fur lining is so warm, Bastian hasn’t needed to make a fire on the longer hunts since he made it outside of keeping the wild animals away. It also has a hood that is lined along the rim with the same fur in order for him to keep his head warm. The other coat, also hooded, is a lighter cotton one with the fangs of a pack of cougars used as buttons after they were hunted down for attacking a nearby town’s livestock. Sure it was a revenge killing, but the villagers paid a nice price for it and it made for a great warm weather jacket. This olive cotton coat makes the teeth buttons gleam in their splendor against the calming colored fabric. His every day attire consists of variations of traditional clothing from his village. Colorful, but muted clothing. Shawls, light and loose clothing during the warm months and heavy clothing such as sweaters and trench coats during the cold months. He always wears comfortable pants, no matter what the weather. Get caught with ticks once and you’ll never wear shorts, unless it’s an enclosed environment or a city, or in your home again. During hunts, however, he wears a skin tight long sleeved body shirt, something that won’t hinder his sight or movement, one in every color for every occasion. Personality: Bastian can be described as a pretty cool guy. He doesn’t go out of his way to bother people, he doesn’t try to cause a ruckus. He likes doing his job, hanging out with his pals, and making sure his technique is still impeccable. It does help that the imps would go and bother someone who annoys him in his stead, but that comes with the territory. Bastian appreciates being useful to people in his work or in his odd jobs and he expects the same of others. He dislikes people that seem to coast by, or abuse something that isn’t related to their abilities or talents. He would rather strive and fail with his own abilities then say that he failed relying on someone else. Above all, he appreciates a person’s ability to adapt and change into something amazing. He doesn’t like stagnation and would leave a situation in an instant if he felt that he felt there was nothing going to happen with his development or with other people. He wants to strive to understand his new abilities and not have to deal with people who could care less about their own development. History: At an early age, Bastian was practically carried along during hunting parties on his dad’s back. The smell of gun smoke and forest are two of the most familiar smells from his childhood, which could have been considered Spartan, at best. Bastian grew up learning two things from his father, the first was that if you cannot rely on yourself, you have to learn to adapt to a situation and use what you can to your advantage. The second was always take care of your gun, and it will take care of you. Bastian took those to heart and continued to grow up to be a competent hunter, being able to go out on hunts by himself at the age of 16 and bring back his own kill to sell to the local market. Bastian lived a simple life. On the one hand, he had his hunting and his ability to continue to grow as he developed. On the other hand, he wanted to continue learning more, constantly reading books in his spare time in order to better prepare for the things that were going to come at him in the world. It would not be long until he would be out on his own and needed to be as prepared as he could to face it. That was the plan, until The Schism came. Hearing about the strange phenomenon, Bastian, at the age of 18, decided it would be a good idea for him to go and see what was happening at the location of the schism. He wanted to learn more about this phenomenon, about the people who were coming through with magnificent powers, about the creatures that were coming over and creating havoc. He wanted to learn about any new creature that could bring in more money from the butchers and the fur makers. What he received in return, was nothing short of amazing. The power from the schism fluctuated that day, to the point where anyone nearby was affected by its power and gave them all various abilities. For Bastian, the power turned his hair white and enchanted the story book he always carried around in his bag for good luck. At first, the power was shocking. Having seen imps appear from out of their pictures was something that Bastian was not ready for and it took him 2 years to truly understand the potential he had in his hands and started extending his abilities to things other than animal hunting. From protection to treasure hunting, Bastian has begun a tour across the country to fully develop his abilities and hopefully one day be able to sit down and create a business of his own, not just freelancing for others. Rank: D Magic: Big Game Hunters Bastian’s magic comes from his ridiculously strong belief in the stories of helpful hunting spirits that aided hunters when they were stuck in tough situations or needed help against the Big Game. The hunting spirits come from passages of the story book that Bastian carries around for good luck. This magic currently brings forth six trap imps, each ethereal in nature, that hover around Bastian’s side until he gives out the order, but eventually can summon forth the other spirits from the other stories to help him during whatever trials he will go through. These imps have their own personalities that are displayed when sent off to distract and trap the enemy for Bastian to finish off. Physically, the imps are currently weak and their forms disperse after being hit with an attack. However, their real power comes from when they blend into the environment and turn into traps. For example, one imp can blend into the ground and create a bear trap while another can make a pit trap with spikes or make a guillotine blade fall from thin air! Bigger traps such as the pit trap and the guillotine need a combined effort of multiple imps. After a trap has been triggered, the imps need to be summoned again to be used, as they go back into the book to regain some of the energy they expelled. Their camouflage ability has also aided Bastian in staying hidden while taking pot shots at the enemy to wear them down or finish them off. The imps are linked telepathically with Bastian and can be coordinated from a distance to set up the traps and shots for Bastian. Alone they’re pretty much useless, but together they can swarm and create havoc for any foe in sight. Combat: Hunter: Bastian is a hunter at heart. He is more than okay with patiently waiting for an opening when fighting against an enemy or a prey. He understands that things take time to happen and the worst thing he can do is rush into a situation headlong and lose an opportunity he could have had. He would rather weather the storm and find a 10 point stag coming out into the open and take it out in one shot than rush in and only get a young buck. Coordination is Key: Before the schism, there was a lot of waiting and hoping that his hunt will come his way. Now, thanks to the spirits, Bastian is able to coordinate them to pull the prey into his desired location and send a kill shot their way. He is still patient as ever, but it does help when you have competent companions. Killer Shot: Bastian feels most comfortable with a ranged weapon. From a regular handgun to the bigger guns, Bastian can handle any ranged weapon that is given to him. He’s been shooting a gun since before he can walk and can do all the fancy things that gunslinger can do. From trick shots to skeet shooting, Bastian is proud to say that he can do it all. However, out of all the guns in the world, he prefers a rifle. You can still do trick shots, but for sheer range and power, the rifle is second to none. Butchery: While he prefers ranged combat and letting the spirits get in close and personal, Bastian is no stranger to the blade. Be it his bayonet or a general knife, Bastian knows his way around the blade and how to disable an incoming foe, or neatly chop his latest hunt for easier carrying and selling. This skill was born out of necessity, because it sucks having to carry around a 200 pound animal on your back all the way back to town, without chopping it up first. Hunting Spirits Possessions: Hunting Rifle with Bayonet Attachment: The finest single action rifle made by the Lemmington Company. Holds seven rounds before having to reload and its medium weight gives it the versatility and balance that Bastian looks for in a rifle. The custom bayonet attachment is useful due to the fact that it can get Bastian out of those hairy, close range situations with a bit of ingenuity and stabbing. Eye patch Range Finder: A SinChester original, the range finder gives Bastian the ability to free up some weight on his gun and give him the ability to take longer range shots. This fashionable eye patch glass allows him to look down 200 yards and shoot a fly off of a bottle. What the physical body can’t do, technology has helped him adapt to it. Big Game Story Book: The catalyst of Bastian’s magic. It’s filled with stories and illustrations of all the hunting spirits that his village has talked about in the past. All 100 of them. Reference Survival Knife Rucksack and Canteen Stat Area Stats: Bastian Grimm HP: 100/100 Mana: 100/100 Strength: 35 Magic: 35 Speed: 37 Defense: 30 Traits Adaptive: Bastian takes 10% less damage from attacks he has been hit by consecutively, but deals 10% less damage with attacks he has used consecutively. Outdoorsman: Bastian takes 35% less damage from Plant, but takes 35% more damage from Fire. Big Game Hunter: Bastian deals 20% more damage with Piercing, but takes 20% more damage from Bio. Passive Hunter’s Calling: Bastian controls up to 6 Trap Imps, which are resources he starts the battle with. Trap Imps have HP equal to 0.5xMag, are targetable and are used in some of his techniques as Traps. These Traps are also resources which have HP equal to the Imp Traps used to create them. When created, these Traps are Stealthed indefinitely and do not have an immediate effect, only activating once a Condition has been fulfilled, but may be destroyed before activating. Bastian may pay half a Trap technique's Mana cost again to remove the Trap without taking up his turn. After a Trap has been activated, the Trap Imps used are consumed. If less than 6 Trap Imps exist in battle, a Trap Imp respawns at the end of every turn. Trap Techniques do their damage when the trap is activated, rather than when they are used. Position – Stealthed: You are untargetable by all techniques, except those that target all or attack at random. This status ends if you take damage or use a technique that targets an opponent. Techniques R0 - (T) Flexible Game (P | Ranged) 0.5xStr, 0.8xSpd, No Cost (Can change to Melee and Slashing if EF and SF are switched.) [Piercing] R1 - (N) Safety Net (P | Block) 1.0xDef, -2 Mana (No Specials.) [None] R1 - (N) Barrel Roll (P | Dodge) 0.8xSpd, -2 Mana (No Specials.) Beartraps inflict a stack of Entrap even if fully blocked. If three Beartraps successfully hit the target in the same turn, inflict Snare instead.) [True] (2) Stack - Entrap[X]: Your Dodge EFs are decreased by 0.1. Max of three stacks. Condition: The target(s) must have used a Melee technique or a Physical Dodge in the last round which was successful. R2 - (T) Trap: Guillotine (M | Ranged) 0.9xMag, 0.7xSpd, -9 Mana (Requires 2 Trap Imps. Creates one Guillotine. The target takes an additional amount of True damage equal to 10% of their lost HP.) [True] Condition: Bastian or allies must have taken at least 10% of their max Health in damage last round. R2 - (T) Potshot (P | Ranged) 1.0xStr, 0.8xSpd, -7 Mana (Can halve the EF and activate two Traps of lower rank to this technique. Can reduce the EF to 0 and activate two Traps, one of which can be higher rank than this technique. Traps activated in this manner have their Effective Block and Dodge reductions halved when defending against them.) [Piercing] R2 - (T) Scary Owl (M | Other) No EF, -9 Mana (Consume up to 3 Trap Imps. Summon one Scary Owl, which has HP equal to the sum of the consumed Trap Imps and counts as X Trap Imps for the purpose of effects. Scary Owl can be consumed during Bastian's turn to automatically activate one Trap as (N), but not during turns where three or more Traps have been activated at once. If Traps are not in battle or are no longer Stealthed, Bastian can consume Scary Owl to decrease his opponent's Block and Dodge EFs by 0.1X against his next Ranged Piercing attack.) [None] R3 - (T) Trap: Pitfall (M | Ranged) 0.6xMag, 0.7xSpd, -13 Mana (Requires 3 Trap Imps. Creates one Pitfall, which inflicts Holey.) [True] (2) Position – Holey: You are unable to target anyone with Melee techniques (excluding Pitfall) and anyone else in battle is unable to target you with Melee techniques. At the beginning of your turn, you take 0.2xMag in HP loss. If using a Physical attack, take 20% of the damage dealt in HP loss. If using a Physical Block or Dodge, the EF is decreased by 0.1. Condition: The target must have used an offensive technique last round. R3 - (T) Money Shot (P | Ranged) 1.0xStr, 0.9xSpd, -13 Mana (Increase EF by 0.2 if target is afflicted with a Trap status effect. Remove that status effect if this technique deals damage.)
