The sun hung low in the sky, casting a blood red glow over everything. Ravi smiled to herself as she followed the Leyline. This was the time of day in which her magic was the most potent. The time right before twilight.

Around her, the air seemed static, almost saturated with prana. Everywhere one looked the signs were obvious.

To those who knew where to look, anyways.

Plants bloomed well past spring, children were always energetic, and the people were all so full of life. The place seemed so full of life, but any Magi could tell you that it was because it was full of life. Saturated with Prana, so to speak.

She found an old church, not as old as the acropolis itself, but abandoned enough to suite her need. Considering that the old nun back north had called her a 'Demon' the irony was not lost on her.

The stones were black, stained by some fire dating back before recent memory. Her footsteps echo on the stones as she walked, trailing her hand along the wall as she followed the corridor. From ahead she could hear voices.

"Who's there?" The voice caused Ravi's heart to pause. She hadn't been counting on people here.

"Just little old me," Ravi said playfully as she stepped around the corner. There were five punks, the leader surrounded by two girls who looked more like cheap prostitutes than successful members of society.

About par for the course, she figured, for these lowlifes.

The leader stood, stepping forward. He had all the arrogance and swagger one would expect from a wanna-be street gang leader. He ran his eyes up and down Ravi as if it was his right, making no attempt to hide his intentions as he stepped forward.

"So, my little bunny, have you come to do what bunnies do?" He said as his two flunkies moved to flank her.

Ravi's eyes narrowed as his gaze met hers. Time is passing, too much longer and I'll have to use extra prana She noted. "I am so out of your league that you cannot even fathom." She smiled, although it was more of a snarl. The material of her gloves groaned as it stretched, the result of her clenching her fist.

She drove her fist in deep as he moved to grab her. He groaned, smacking her backhand. She spun on her feet, falling to the ground.

The air became charged with static as she called on her power, hand resting on an odd piece of graffiti.

"Я призываю власть Старшего" She said on a whispering breath.

That's when things got interesting. And complicated.

Within the Grail, time was not a concept. An instant could last an eternity and the ghostly inhabitants would continue their ordinary routine. For the Beast, this meant an eternity bound within his own personal Hell.

But the road of righteousness is filled with light. In an eternity or an instant, the Beast felt his chains being released, he felt himself being called back into the world of the living. A second chance to right the mistakes which brought him to this Hell. An opportunity to bring mankind to Salvation...

Much to his disappointment, the Beast was still bound in chains on an Island in the center of a burning lake. However, things were certainly not the same. His chains were physical this time, as was his body and the world the chains bound him to. The six or seven entities in front of him appeared to be physical as well. One of them, a girl in an old uniform, was in the center of the crowd.

The Beast smiled to himself. Mankind's wicked nature reared it's head even in their Saver's first waking moments. This was the purpose of those such as himself- to save humanity from their own evils. The mission would begin at once!

Still bound in steel colored chains, the Beast spoke with a voice almost primal. "Lucifer qui mane crastinus hidis" The words clicked and crackled like fire, more like a sound of nature than a human language. As the final phrase left his lips the air actually caught on fire, solidifying into a flaming ball of rock. With a glance the Beast threw it at the mob.

The rock struck one in the head, killing him almost instantly. The two on either side burst into flame quickly enough. The remaining two thugs gazed on the Beast with fear, turning to flee. Only then did they take note of the change in their surroundings; they were now on an island. The thugs tried to swim away, only to find their bodies singed by the purifying waters.

The Beast smiled at the remaining human. The girl let off an unholy vibe, but she didn't seem malevolent like demons or sinners. "I am Servant Saver, hero of all mankind. This world you live in is filled with hatred and despair, and it is my divine mission to cleanse it of it's sin. Are you my Master?"

The saturation of prana around Loa vanished almost instantly. Although she certainly didn't feel like she'd been saved. After all, she was somehow on an island, in a lake of fire, and a whole gang of thugs had been murdered in front of her. Vomit forced its way into her mouth as she was suddenly bathed in the scent of charred flesh.

She was in a daze. She'd planned on hurting them, but murder?

It wasn't even like it was the first time she'd seen someone die, yet...

Something about the manner of the thugs passing caused a spear of ice to settle in her heart.

"Are you my Master?"

It was such a simple question, asked by a man who had just demonstrated a command over the elements that made her look like a stage magician.

Still, have to try Ravi told herself. The air around her hummed with energy, Her eyes didn't waiver, although she certainly wasn't hiding her fear. "I'm not sure I understand," before 'Saver' could answer though; "Wait, you're not from the Church are you? I'll have you know I'm not going down easy!"

The Beast gave a hearty laugh, causing his chains to jangle. "The Church? I could not be further from them if I tried, my dear." He lifted his arms to show the shackles that bound him. Holy symbols decorated them like lawn ornaments. "It's funny. I bear them no ill, and yet you could say I'm their greatest enemy."

The Beast silently thanked his god as he decoded the girl's words. It seemed like she didn't know what she'd gotten herself into, as she'd summoned him but questioned his identity. That would make things difficult for a while, but it could be overcome in time. On a more positive note, she was clearly not in favor of the Church. That would make things so much easier...

"It apears as if you don't understand the power you hold. Allow me to explain." The Beast coughed as he began to explain, though the shackles prevented him from standing. "You have been chosen to be one of fifteen in a great war. I am what's known as a Servant, a great and powerful being beyond any human. Together we must defeat the other fourteen Servants. When we successfully do so, a great artifact will appear to grant your heart's deepest desire."

The Beast spoke as if giving a sermon, concluding with a small bow. He waited for the girl's reaction, but suddenly remembered something important. "Of course, as I said: My goal is to make the most of my time on this Earth. I wish to help you humans by saving you from yourselves." He nodded gravely, more to himself than his Master. Aready he had seen five humans corrupted by evil, and the only other human he'd met didn't seen exactly pure. His mission was great, but it wouldbe worth it.

"If we can win this war, our hearts desires will be fulfilled. Perhaps then I can help you people. And soI ask again: will you help me win this great battle to save humanity? Are you my Master?"

"You just murdered five people, using magic, throwing prana around like it was sand, and you need my help?" Loa shook her head, her hair swaying. Her eyes focused on the chained man and she sighed.

"Besides, I already have people after me. Last thing I need is some psychopath using me as an accessory to his rampage." Her tone was dry. It probably wasn't the wisest thing to do, scolding a man such as this, but she'd rather keep her dignity than cower like a dog.

She covered one eye with a gloved hand, listening, then opened hit, looking between the fingers. "Wait, there are fourteen more of you? Who's sick idea was this?"

A frown flashed by the Beast's face, but it was gone in an instant. A casual smile appeared in it's place as the Servant closed his eyes.

"...I see. If that's how you feel, I will not force you into something you don't want." His smile dropped, and centuries of weariness suddenly showing. "But if you must go, I do not wish for you to remember me poorly. I must tell you I have been blessed with the gift of insight." He slowly opened his eyes, drawing emphasis to their deep red colour. "Those men were wicked by their very nature. Even I coud not have helped them. If they had lived, they would have driven themselves to terrible things and ended several lives in addition to yours. I admit my methods were not the best, but I had to make a quick descision. There was nothing I could have done for them."

By the end of his speech, the Beast's face looked genuinely unhappy, as if he hadn't been laughing when the incident occured. He shrugged his shoulders, causing the chains to jangle. "My goal was to help mankind so hopeless cases such as those would never arise again. And if you're wondering why I didn't harm you as well... You are good at heart. I think you have been hurt, but you can still make something of yourself."

The Beast gave a bow, as best he could with the chains. "And with that, I will allow you to break the contract you have formed with me. All you have to do is order me to kill myself.

Loa paused.

She knew she should get out of this war. She knew with all of her being that she was in danger simply by being here.

It didn't take magic or divination to figure these things out.

And yet...

It wasn't like the man before her was unattractive, and he had saved her.

Plus, she was in a reality marble, or something close. She wasn't sure what would happen if he died.

"Tell me your bit," She said, sighing. "Explain all of this to me, just... Just leave the religious part out, if you please. I'm not saying no, but I want to know all the facts."

"What more is there to know? Fifteen legendary heroes will fight to the death to win a wish granting artifact. Fifteen mortals will witness the event, with the chance to win the artifact themselves. It's a tragic display of human greed, I'm afraid. I can see why some may be deterred."

He began to lecture on the wicked nature of mankind, but caught himself. "But that is why I am here. It's true that I am one of these Servants, but the wish granting treasure is not my desire. I know the evil things mankind has done. They've killed each other and everything around them, they flee from danger and strike down the weak. I want to stop the evil."

The Beast gave a sad smile, lifting his arms to show the chains. "But I am bound. I want to help, but I can't without someone to set me free. Fifteen Masters will summon the fifteen Servants, and not all of them will be benevolent. If I can't step in, innocent blood will be spilled."

"I see..." Loa said. It was a bit on the fantastic side, but then again, she could shoot lightening bolts out of her hands, so...

She considered her options "So my role in all this is what? I summoned you, what more do I have to do? If you expect me to test magic against people like yourself... I'm out."

She listened to his response.

That's when it occured to her, she was listening to him. Something about him seemed right. Not that she was going to join his cult of spacemen or anything, but she didn't hate him, despite his show of power.

There was safety in that power.

"I'll accept, but don't kill anyone unless they're out of my league, okay? I find a bolt of lightning solves most of my problems with mundane people."
