Re: The Future of Film Crazy
It has been brought to my attention that our little forum is being turned into a "link dump", something I have tried to avoid happening. The point of these forums are to provide conversation of film/Hollywood among fans, simply posting links to outside articles isn't going to interest newcomers. In light of all of this, I have decided that any posts including links to outside articles will be immediately deleted. I hate the idea of moderating this forum as I'm not a fan of any kind of censorship. Rather than just posting a link, please consider paraphrasing the article and adding your opinion, obviously to avoid plagiarism you will still be required to post the link to the original source as well.
So you are saying posting of the title of an article and a link will be deleted? However if you make a comment or offer an opinion regarding the article is acceptable?
Yes, unless someone quotes it with their opinion. Posting links to outside articles without making a comment is simply spamming our board, and I think I can speak for all of us when I say we don't like spam. Thanks for clarifying. By definition, forums are for discussion where people can hold conversations by posting messages. Posting a link without making a comment or opinion about the post does not really encourage discussion which we seem to be lacking. I think potential new members will be more stimulated to join our community if there is intelligent thought, ideas and opinions.

Exactly, and for the record, just posting a picture of what you watched and a rating can be done much faster on social networking sites like Twitter or Facebook, try including a quick blurb of what you thought of the film or why you rated it what you did as well.
All that said I'm planning on getting serious with this website this year, as promised, that means writing reviews and original features to the main website and even starting up the small non-profit web store I've mentioned in the past. As always I'm open to suggestions

Uh oh, times sure have changed, here's some BIG news for IMDb forum users...
- Quote:
-
IMDb is the world's most popular and authoritative source for movie, TV and celebrity content. As part of our ongoing effort to continually evaluate and enhance the customer experience on IMDb, we have decided to disable IMDb's message boards on February 20, 2017. This includes the Private Message system. After in-depth discussion and examination, we have concluded that IMDb's message boards are no longer providing a positive, useful experience for the vast majority of our more than 250 million monthly users worldwide. The decision to retire a long-standing feature was made only after careful consideration and was based on data and traffic. Increasingly, IMDb customers have migrated to IMDb's social media accounts as the primary place they choose to post comments and communicate with IMDb's editors and one another. IMDb's Facebook page ( https://www.facebook.com/imdb) and official Twitter account ( https://twitter.com/imdb) have an audience of more than 10 million engaged fans. IMDb also maintains official accounts on Snapchat ( https://www.snapchat.com/add/imdblive), Pinterest ( https://www.pinterest.com/imdbofficial/), YouTube ( https://www.youtube.com/imdb), and Tumblr ( http://imdb.tumblr.com/). Because IMDb's message boards continue to be utilized by a small but passionate community of IMDb users, we announced our decision to disable our message boards on February 3, 2017 but will leave them open for two additional weeks so that users will have ample time to archive any message board content they'd like to keep for personal use. During this two-week transition period, which concludes on February 19, 2017, IMDb message board users can exchange contact information with any other board users they would like to remain in communication with (since once we shut down the IMDb message boards, users will no longer be able to send personal messages to one another). We regret any disappointment or frustration IMDb message board users may experience as a result of this decision. IMDb is passionately committed to providing innovative ways for our hundreds of millions of users to engage and communicate with one another. We will continue to enhance our current offerings and launch new features in 2017 and beyond that will help our customers communicate and express themselves in meaningful ways while leveraging emerging technologies and opportunities.

With this news and my thoughts to take down the Film Crazy forums(not official yet), will you migrate to Facebook or Twitter with the masses or elsewhere?

^ Just got home after doing some shopping after work. This imdb development is BIG news! I have never posted in any of their forums but use to often read the user reviews and message boards especially when I started movie collecting. If I was going to be serious collector I wanted to learn all about movies. The external and user reviews helped me learn about movies and in deciding whether a certain movies were worth buying or not. The message boards were also very helpful in finding out about certain details about the movie itself and different DVD editions, regular, special, director's cut, or unrated editions. I appreciated the different opinions. Back then DVDs were a lot more expensive than they are now so I was careful about which movie and which edition to buy.
I do not own a cellphone so do not have Twitter, Snapchat, Pinterest or Tumblr accounts but am on Facebook so I do get imdb information there. However I do appreciate the Film Crazy forums and do not have any plans to go elsewhere.

whoever ordered the snow in the west coast must die :ermm:  I believe all the snow you are getting this winter is due to La Niña effect. We are use to all the snow and cold here in the east although not necessarily happy about it. :(

hey Mike did you change the layout again? Huh, who, me? LOL Yep, I thought consolidating the sections would make it look busier but not sure if that's the right approach. Maybe if it looks like we have partitions for every sub-genre it'll look more serious? Plus, I'm thinking about spamming the IMDb boards to migrate some refugees over to this site.

Arghhhhhhh came up short on 80 hours last pay period. Guess I've gotta make up for that in the next 2 weeks.
