Re: The Future of Film Crazy

It has been brought to my attention that our little forum is being turned into a "link dump", something I have tried to avoid happening. The point of these forums are to provide conversation of film/Hollywood among fans, simply posting links to outside articles isn't going to interest newcomers. In light of all of this, I have decided that any posts including links to outside articles will be immediately deleted. I hate the idea of moderating this forum as I'm not a fan of any kind of censorship. Rather than just posting a link, please consider paraphrasing the article and adding your opinion, obviously to avoid plagiarism you will still be required to post the link to the original source as well.
So you are saying posting of the title of an article and a link will be deleted? However if you make a comment or offer an opinion regarding the article is acceptable?

Yes, unless someone quotes it with their opinion. Posting links to outside articles without making a comment is simply spamming our board, and I think I can speak for all of us when I say we don't like spam.
Thanks for clarifying. By definition, forums are for discussion where people can hold conversations by posting messages. Posting a link without making a comment or opinion about the post does not really encourage discussion which we seem to be lacking. I think potential new members will be more stimulated to join our community if there is intelligent thought, ideas and opinions.
Exactly, and for the record, just posting a picture of what you watched and a rating can be done much faster on social networking sites like Twitter or Facebook, try including a quick blurb of what you thought of the film or why you rated it what you did as well.

All that said I'm planning on getting serious with this website this year, as promised, that means writing reviews and original features to the main website and even starting up the small non-profit web store I've mentioned in the past. As always I'm open to suggestions
It seems this was not read by all. Maybe too late now. We can all keep doing what we were doing until the boards go dark or change in hopes there is a future. If we are going in different directions in what we are doing then I see the end being near. It's all about Film Crazy, our community, and its future. Mike said he is open to suggestions.

^ If you have seen and read The Future of Film Crazy discussion above please confirm with a reply to this post. We will see who reads and is on board and who does not. We want to grow our community, not see it go away. The status quo is not working.

We have deleted spam and will be deleting any other spam as defined above. We have all visited a very popular website as members or guests. Anyone who is a member there will have already seen the articles that they either choose to read or ignore because they are not interested. Why would someone want to see them again here and be encouraged to join our community? However if you read the article you are posting and have a comment or opinion to start a discussion then that is what forums are for.

We welcome suggestions to help improve and grow our community. The future is your hands and what you chose to do. Hopefully you are all on board.

^ I have read and agree 100% on your points, filmfanatic99. As a result I have made a command decision to renew the filmcrazy.net domain mainly because I'd like to get serious with my writing on the main site, however if we don't see much of a change with the forums I may reconsider discontinuing my involvement.

^ Glad we are in agreement, Mike. Also happy that you have decided to renew the filmcrazy.net domain. I was worried the end was near and that is why I was trying to rally everyone to help make this community grow. I will do what I can to make this work but we will need the help of all our members. So I hope everyone co-operates and is on board with what we are trying to achieve.

^ Did you read the whole discussion or just selected parts because although Mike renewed, he also said " if we don't see much of a change with the forums I may reconsider discontinuing my involvement". That means the forums will go dark as he has said.

So far we have been seeing a lot of 'spam' as described above by Mike. If not everyone is complying then Film Crazy will be ending. This has been repeated a number of times in this forum and in the Shoutbox so it should be very clear. Simply adding a link with the title is not enough. It is a form of spam. If you add a comment or offer an opinion that is different. We are asking that everyone co-operate with the request to change because the status quo is not working. If anything is not understood, both Mike and I can explain further.

I am sure everyone would hate to see Film Crazy end just because someone did not read or understand what was discussed.

How did popcorn become a traditional movie watching snack? The irony of eating something "loud" during a period that should be silent of background noise....

That is an interesting question. It goes all the way back to the early days of movies. The following article gives a history of how popcorn became the traditional movie watching snack.
