I haven't bought a new release since my early days of collecting. Like Mike, I still have a large number of movies that I still haven't watched so I can watch those while waiting for the new releases to drop in price. |

I had a parent/teacher meeting with Sam's teachers this afternoon. She's doing extremely well academically, however her teachers expressed a lot of concern in her chronic shyness. Apparently she refuses to socialize with her peers and always off doing her own thing. When she's called on in class she acts like she hasn't been following what's being addressed, but her grades don't reflect that. With her father passing and her mother not around, they suggested I take her to see a shrink.... I thought that was a bit drastic, so I figured I'd try to brainstorm some ideas to improve her social skills a bit first. Oh, and another concern her teachers had was her being really tired in class especially on Tuesdays. I guess she's going to have to wait until after school Tuesday to catch new episodes of Bates Motel for now on. |

^ Maybe sign her up for a team sport or some other activity. I learned a lot from playing sports, meet new people, make new friends, learn teamwork and cooperation, playing by the rules, following instructions, gained confidence, etc. Just curious, is Sam's father, Joe? She plays Little League, but that's only like 2 months out of the year. As an assistant coach she's got real potential and I hope she follows it through to play softball at the school level when she's eligible next year. Unfortunately every season of little league I've noticed she rarely hangs with her teammates, instead she usually follows me around. Anyway, she's a good kid and gets good grades so I never really thought anything about it until now. Odd thing is, in the last 5 years I have never heard any of her teachers being concerned about this. And, no, Sam's father was my friend since kindergarten. He enlisted in the Army right after high school, got deployed to Afghanistan 2 years later and was killed 6 months later - Sam was born 3 months after. Before he deployed, he made me promise that I would become Sam's godfather and take care of her like she was my own if anything happened to him. |

So, Meg got good news yesterday and I felt I needed to post since I know some of you may have got a bad impression from my last posts about her recent life choices. She only quit her job because her supervisor was constantly harassing her, she submitted a formal complaint to the hospital's HR department only for a generic "there's nothing we can do" letter in return. As soon as she put in a transfer request to return to the "graveyard shift" her daytime supervisor started getting more and more aggressive toward her, to the point that she had no choice but to quit. Well, as a recently departed employee, she decided to apply for an open supervisor position on 3rd shift and given her prior experiences she got it!! It still doesn't explain why she didn't want to accept the job offer in Pennsylvania, but from my understanding this supervisory position locally will be a promotion from what she was doing. The issue now is we'll be working opposite each other, she's working something like 7p-3am while I'm working 4am-4pm I guess we'll still have 3 hours a day to see each other so there's that. When I questioned why she didn't tell me about the whole problem with her former boss, she just said she wasn't sure if I'd believe her since nobody else did. Of course I told her that was BS, I probably would've convinced her to quit that job and find a new one. That lead to a bit of a heated discussion on our finances and how my paycheck has been getting smaller and smaller lately, I had to explain to her it's just a slow period at work and that my hours will pick up soon enough, besides it's not that we wouldn't have been able to survive on what I make alone. I still didn't appreciate all the shit she said about Sam living with us, especially since Sam's expenses don't account for even a quarter of my bi-monthly (every 2wks) paycheck. But we're gonna get over all this, one day at a time. We're still planning an early summer wedding with a reception in the early fall, I'm not giving up my plan to enlist in the Army although I do have until June 1st to make that decision. Well, the overnight supervisor job didn't last long..the position she was offered in Pennsylvania was offered again, this time with a company car and housing as well as a very attractive starting bonus which would pay off the remaining of her college debt. The offer was too good to pass up so she took it. Although we live ~6hrs apart, we talk every day and see each other on weekends. As for my career, I'm still interested in the Army - but as of now I haven't made any decisions. We're still planning a wedding, with Labor Day weekend in mind... Total solar eclipse 2017: Get ready for the big event http://www.foxnews.com/science/2017/08/18/total-solar-eclipse-2017-get-ready-for-big-event.html NOTE: NASA has issued a solar eclipse safety warning. “The only safe way to look directly at the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed Sun is through special-purpose solar filters, such as ‘eclipse glasses’ or hand-held solar viewers,” it said, in its solar eclipse safety guidelines. “Homemade filters or ordinary sunglasses, even very dark ones, are not safe for looking at the Sun.” |
