Total solar eclipse 2017: Get ready for the big event

http://www.foxnews.com/science/2017/08/18/total-solar-eclipse-2017-get-ready-for-big-event.html

NOTE: NASA has issued a solar eclipse safety warning. “The only safe way to look directly at the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed Sun is through special-purpose solar filters, such as ‘eclipse glasses’ or hand-held solar viewers,” it said, in its solar eclipse safety guidelines. “Homemade filters or ordinary sunglasses, even very dark ones, are not safe for looking at the Sun.”
is that gonna hit us in Canada?

Canadians turn to U.S. for best views of total solar eclipse

Yes, we can see the eclipse in Canada but as the above article says the best view is in the U.S. although those in Victoria get a 90% eclipse.

Who Ya Gonna Call?
Soooo I've been thinking a lot about my future, since I enlisted in the Army. I don't know how I never thought about what I'm going to do with Sammy when I ship out to boot camp. My parents won't take her in for that long (3-6 months) and we haven't heard from her mother since she sent her back here... Guess I should've gone over every detail before signing my life away to Uncle Sam. LOL

Well I discussed it with my fiancee last night, she's willing to take Sam in for the year while I'm at boot camp/advanced training school. I was a little weary on this option since she's been working 7 days a week/12hrs a day but it seems to be the best option given the circumstances.

Well that was short lived support... Meg told me tonight that if I follow through with the enlistment she's leaving me. That said I'm pretty sure our engagement is now called off. :( She's still willing to take the kid for the year I'm gone, but I'm not really comfortable in that arrangement now. Back to the drawing board I guess...

Did you not tell her about your plan to enlist when you first mentioned it here? What about Sam's mom? Did you tell her about your plan? Seems you have a very big dilemma.

Yup she knew I was speculating about doing it years ago but in her defense I don't think I expressed just how serious I was until recently. What she doesn't realize is how much I'm going to gain from this decision. Even though the pay is decent now, I can't see myself as a warehouse worker forever and I'm not going back to retail/food service or a dead-end call center gig. I plan on going into the Army for law enforcement which will give me decent opportunities once I get out of the service.

As for Sam's mom, being a service member herself she's fully supportive and is even looking for a bigger apartment over in Germany for once her daughter joins her. Of course Sam has been a bit odd about the whole ordeal, I'm getting the indication she feels a bit of abandonment, like I don't want her around anymore or something. I sat her down and explained everything to her including letting her know she'll have an open invite to come back to live with me once I get settled after training.
