It's Ribfest time again here. Had a chicken & rib combo yesterday.
That sounds delicious, I know what I'm having for dinner tonight B-)
It was. We have a lot of festivals this time of year and Ribfest is certainly one of the most popular judging by the crowds. Last year they decided to have second one in the fall. From the signs, the 'ribbers' travel all over Canada and the U.S. to these festivals. Do you have one where you are, Mike?
I haven't seen anything like that near me. I have seen a BBQ fundraiser once or twice a year but nothing I would call a festival. A nearby town has a annual 4th of july festival/blowout but the only food they offer is burgers and hot dogs (readL cheap BBQ food). I love grilling ribs in the summertime, much better than steak IMHO. I used to use different sauces and rubs each time I grill them, but lately I've just been using Sweet Baby Ray's honey BBQ sauce on them - not too sweet and not too tangy, it's pretty tasty.

How long does the Rib Fest last? And what part of Canada are you from? Quebec area, by any chance? I went camping up that way once, and hit up a race track not too far from the campground, Granby Motor Speedway I believe was the name, damn, that was nearly 2 decades ago, I'd love to go back someday.

Ribfest started last Wednesday and ends today. I think it started on a Thursday in the past so they may have added an extra day. There were about 17 'ribbers' from all over serving up their ribs and in the competition for having the best ribs. The ribs are pricey but good. The cheapest item I saw are pulled pork sandwiches which were $8. The most expensive is a rack of ribs for $25.

I'm in eastern Ontario near the Quebec border. I believe Granby is near Montreal which 2 hours away from here.

^ They were saying on the local news that we are the only city that has two ribfests during the year. Apparently people here love ribs. For Ribtoberfest they also have added German foods, sausages, sauerkraut etc. It's held downtown at a pedestrian mall which attracts a lot of office workers for lunch and after work during weekdays and then many others on the weekend.
