Sol closed his eyes and sighed deeply, hanging his head just so. He had just arrived at Tarapar via caravan. For the time being, Sol had no real reason to be in the city outside of the want to visit. And most would question even ‘its’ merits. That being said, Sol had already decided that he was going to see the world! And let the experience of doing so guide his path. The other reason, was that every good adventurer, and every good Innkeep, should know someone from ‘everywhere’. Depending on who you know can make for great connections, references, and above all else, a great story.

Sol continued to meander through the walkways just beyond the square, it was close to supper time and, unfortunately, the caravan was quite stingy on in-travel snacks. At that moment he eyed the sign to a shop, and if there were any people who knew where to eat, it’s the blue-collared. Making his way towards the shop’s entrance, he noticed the presence of a couple others following him towards the doorway. The figures were covered in grey hooded cloaks, hiding their features as well. However, as suspicious as it was, Sol shrugged it off. He was a stranger in the city, he was not about to be possibly rude.

When he reached the door to the shop, gave a light knock, out of habit, and announced himself with a “Hello” while entering. It was at that moment that Sol nearly reeled from the change in scenery. What was dreary, dark, and essentially mono-tone grey on the outside, bursts of light either being emitted from or reflecting off of a plethora of metal contraptions. He had to shake his head to clear it once he had entered.

[[OOC: Apologies for the delay]]

The day had been fairly quiet for Theodore Bashere so far, as they usually were every day in Tarapar, the Capital City of the Rashlun Empire in Markarath. He had been woken up in the standard way by Sophia who ran into his room yelling happily and jumped on his bed hard, slamming her little five-year-old torso into his own and making him wake up with a comically over-loud 'oof'. But there had been very little action other than that for him, he had made her breakfast and walked her to school -thankfully only a few blocks away from his home- before returning to his shop and beginning the usual routine he went through every morning when he opened up.

He hadn't had many customers on this day, but that was to be expected since most of his business came from orders made at the end of a week, leaving him all week to work on the things he had been paid to make and he managed to finish three orders already before the time to pick Sophia up from school came around, including a small little clock for a wealthy Rashlun widow up nearer the center of town -who made a lot of orders through the Humyn Tinker in the middle of the city, along with some... suggestions that Theo managed to wave off every time- and a small knife set that had a rotating blade to help an elderly man cut through thicker foods.

Picking up Sophia had been simple enough, a casual walk, some nice chats to the ladies who were waiting for their own children -again, waving off any suggestions from the single mothers with simple words and smiles- and then walking her back home before leaving her to do some homework and returning to his shop. When she ran down an hour later he let her potter around the shop easily -while keeping an eye on her from the corner of his vision- while he finished up on a gun order that had come in and it wasn't until around supper time or so when the doorbell of his shop rang and he looked up idly, one hand holding the incompleted handgun and the other moving easily to the thick hammer next to him but he instead nodded as it seemed it was a customer.

He had to admit his shop was a shock to behold the first time you saw it - the outside of all the buildings in Tarapar were a thick grey but inside his home was a mahogany brown and gold and silver with metal contraptions and things covering what was basically a work room - though of course his true one was below with his safe. He simply nodded a greeting to the man who walked in but his eyes narrowed incrementally as three others walked in behind him, cloaked figures with their faces obscured and he put down the half-finished gun to one side before standing and walking over behind the counter where he could stand easily and his own gun would be obscured.
"Hello there," he said in a low voice, a small smile on his face to be polite but his eyes focusing on the three hooded people intently, "How can I help you all?"

On the surface, Sol was busying himself looking around the heavily decorated storefront. There were a plethora of devices, some practical, some less-than, and some he asked himself 'why don't I have one of these'. Nevertheless, most he had not seen before. He heard the doorbell ring behind him as the masked figures he had seen before follow him into the shop. Previously he was not able to make out their details – near-sighted as he was - but now that they were close, and within decent lighting, they looked even shiftier than previously noted.

He turned his attention to the shop keep, a man about his age, if not a little younger, when he addressed them all. “I'm browsing for the moment, there's quite a selection here and I would hate to miss something. I do have a question, but it can wait.” He replied, but it was twofold. While he did want to look around the shop a little before asking for directions to somewhere good to eat, he wanted to observe the 'mystery shoppers' that had followed him in.

It didn't take long after he had turned his attention back to the items of the shop that he felt a tight grip against his wrist before it became twisted behind and his body and was barely able to breath an “oh balls...” before being slammed against one of the counters; weighted down by one of the cloaked figures. He was, at least, able to turn his head freely, first towards the door, where he saw another cloaked figure blocking the door. Turning his head the other direction he saw the third of the figures confronting the shop keeper dirk and handgun in hand.

“All the gil ya got, keep” the confronting masked figure barked motioning with his two weapons. Truth be told, the hold Sol's aggressor had wasn't all that strong, but enough to keep him from acting just yet, in fear of making a mess. That being said, he was in street clothes, and only had his shortsword and ring on for protection. If he had his full armor, he would have cared a little less.

Well... how irksome...

Bandits were not an uncommon thing in Tarapar, something about the bleakness of the exterior seemed to make outlanders think that the people here were not only easily beaten down but also easy to lambast into giving up huge quantities of Gil and Items for little to no effort. The three figures weren't even being subtle about their robbery attempt, having walked in with their faces hooded and masks already on. It was just a shame that they hadn't been stopped on the street, the city watch were usually quite vigilant about shady looking characters in their streets and it must have been a busy day for these three to walk in here so casually like that. Theo almost said as much but when one of them confronted him with a dirk and a pistol he looked at the weapon, analysing it even while his fingers gripped his own weapons and waited for the right moment.

"Daddy~" a sing-song voice came from the stairs behind Theo that lead up into the apartment he lived in with Sophia above the shop, "Can I have a milkshake?"
Thankfully she didn't actually come down, that would have been terrifying for the father of the five-year-old girl but her voice calling down did provide the much needed moment Theo had been waiting for as the would-be-thief looked up at the stairs in alarm, thinking there was a third person they had to worry about.
In that moment Theodore fired.
The bullet wasn't exactly super strong, the gun was more a deterrent than anything else and as it hit the robber in the chest, knocking the wind out of him Theo smiled as he heard Sophia run back up the stairs. She knew not to be down when noises like that happened.

Vaulting over the counter as the thief fell back Theo's hammer made a heavy arcing motion as he swung it high, slamming it into the man and dropping him hard with a loud 'crack' on the back of the man's neck. He didn't rise again, he was down for the count -possibly dead,Theo didn't care- and he looked at the other two, his face quite serious.
"I highly dislike thieves in my shop," he said slowly, "You can stop pretending, my un-masked neighbour," he threw a glance to the other man who was clearly pretending to struggle, "Everything on the main floor is junk, would you mind helping me clear out this trash?"

Sol watched patiently as the scene with the shop keeper and one of the bandits took place, his rash actions looked as if it startled the others, or at least enough for the one holding him against the counter to shift a noticeable amount of weight away from pinning him. This was fortunate, this was the amount of leeway he needed to break free. Apparently the shopkeep thought the same as verbally brought attention to it.

Before the bandit could react and place his full effort back to restraining sol, he rotated his wrist within the bandit's grip and pushing it against the weak point between his thumb and fingers, breaking free. He then pushed his body weight back against the bandit to push him far enough so he could turn to face him. The bandit, not taking the time to take out whatever weapon he was armed with, attempted to throw a haymaker punch with his right arm. Like clockwork, Sol reached across his body with his own right arm and caught the bandit's punch, by his wrist. He then jerked and twisted the bandit's arm to straighten it before making a powerful open palmed strike to his elbow, following through with such force a cracking sound erupted from the joint breaking. The bandit now screaming in pain, Sol used the forearm of the same arm and slammed it against the bandit's throat, letting go of him moments later as he dropped to the floor, unconscious.

Two down, one to go, he looked at the final bandit who had witnessed two of his comrades be dropped like a sack of spuds. From the looks of it the last bandit who was charged with watching the door, was the smallest of the three, and visibly shaken from what had just transpired. And, in an act of desperation, turned and attempted to bolt away into the streets, though their current mental state caused them to fumble a bit with the door.

Well, it seemed like the other man involved in this little heist-attempt wasn't so bad either, and Theo glanced over at him quickly to see how he was doing, before turning his attention back to the other man at the doorway who was watching the scene before him with wide-eyes. They clearly hadn't been expecting their robbery to go so badly and Theo was more internally grateful than he could have otherwise expressed but he didn't have tim to deal with that right now. No, he holstered his gun easily as he walked over towards the man at the door, the man who was staring at him in horror. There was a long moment of silence as the man near the counter finally dropped his opponent as well, before the bandit at the door tried to run. Big mistake.

"I wish this was the first time this had happened," Theodore said idly back to the man in his shop as he extended his left hand, palm outwards, and a glowing white circle appeared in the air before him, "But I guess even in a military town there are bandits who try to fuck with people they don't understand."
The circle suddenly exploded, expanding rapidly and forming into... metal? A small robot thing appeared and looked up at Theo for a moment, maybe 2' tall with two arms and tiny tiny legs (almost nonexistant) with bladed arms it scuttled out the door after the bandit.

Walking towards the doorway Theo idly looked out as he saw the bandit was already down for the count, even only 1/4 as fast and strong as Theo was the bot had caught up to the man and tackled him down easily. He was clearly not only the weakest of the three but also likely just there for numbers, so Theo chuckled and walked back inside to look over the scene.
"Well," he said, frowning slightly, "That happened didn't it? Thank you, by the way," he walked over to the man and held out his hand, "For helping. I hope you aren't in on it, I'd hate to have to hurt someone who helped out, even as an act. I'm Theodore."

Sol methodically placed his right hand against his opposite shoulder and rotated it a few times until it felt comfortable before doing the same to the other, popping his knuckles and wrists afterwards. In that time the shopkeeper had handled the last of the robbers.

When the shopkeeper confronted him on his intentions, he responded with a slow blink and a smile with a breathed chuckle. For the moment he had forgotten the original reason of why he entered the shop, but now was not the time for reflection. “You are most welcome. My name is Solandrynn Marcs of Erais; most call me Sol. It would be a shame to see your wares to become the possession of someone who didn’t appreciate them… even if it’s ‘junk’.” He said, noting back to when Theo mentioned the relative importance of his work. “But then again, I remember hearing from a gentleman hailing from Zorabelo who said that ‘a tinkerer is always tinkering, so his best work is never showroom ready.’…”

Sol’s concentration was broken by the unconscious would be robber’s clothes rustling ever-so-slightly. His smile faded and his stance strengthened for a moment before assessing that he was still unconscious. “Hmm, perhaps now is not the time for stories. You mentioned that, unfortunately, this was not your first encounter. This city is unknown to me, as I am only passing through, should we relocate these men elsewhere for the time being?” Sol reached down and after finding a good grip he lifted the bandit with his hand just above the center of his chest, his eyes following his own movements for stability until he saw, towards the back of the shop, a small girl, no older that 5 or 6, watching silently and patiently. He paid it her no mind and turned his attention back to Theo.

Nodding slowly as the other man introduced himself -Solandrynn was a suitably unusual name that Theodore immediately understood why he went by the much shorter (and more masculine) "Sol"- and stated his intentions for his visit to the shop had been originally before this... business had gotten out of hand. Theo remained silent as the man spoke about the bandits, before his own eyes narrowed when he realised Sol was looking at the back of the shop. Where Theo's daughter probably was waiting for her father to be done with his current business. Still, at least Sol didn't dwell on it and when he asked about what to do with the bandits Theo's grin was a little vicious, even while he nodded appreciatively that the man knew the true mark of a Tinker.

"Aye," he said as he leaned down and grabbed the one he had floored earlier, checking his pulse first to make sure that yes, he was still alive, "There is a little procedure that all the shopkeepers here in Tarapar know of. Come, I'll show you."
Walking out the front of his shop he nodded to his daughter back at the stairs and she ran up them, waiting for Sol to walk out as well before nodding in the direction of a small alleyway opposite his shop on the other side of the street. Dragging the would-be-bandit with him he looked over to see his robot was attempting the same thing down the road before he unceremoniously dumped the unconscious man in the mouth of the alley.

"Every street has one of these," he explained as he walked over to his bot and helped it drag the last of the villains to the alleyway as well, "In most cases would-be-thieves are usually apprehended by us and the constables don't really mind how we deal with it, as long as we leave them alive. They'll be around when night hits properly and they'll deal with it then, provided I leave..."
And he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small silver gear, that he flicked onto the forehead of one of the unconscious men as a signifier. It meant they had tried to rob his shop and he had dealt with them. Each shopkeeper had their own mark, and he said as much to Sol before he turned back towards his shop.

"So, let's see what we can find for you then 'eh? With a bit of a discount for helping me take care of that situation I think." he said easily, not realising -until he walked back into his shop- that the person Sol had quoted from... was Theodore himself.
Or at least his father...

Slinging his own would-be-bandit over his shoulder, for the sake of damaging his wrist, he followed Theo's lead walking out of the shop to the street, crossing it to the alleyway. For him, it was light night and day, the difference between the constantly dull atmosphere of the streets and the vibrancy of Theo's shop. Out of sheer curiosity Sol's eyes darted around, scanning for any other glimpses of color. He found nothing before Theo pulled his attention back with his explanation of 'bandit disposal'.

Walking back into the shop with Theo, and his daughter tagging along closely. Theo mentioned offering a discount on some his his wares for helping him apprehend the would-be-robbers, and he was considering taking Theo up on the offer when his stomach butted in and let loose a irritable growl. He suddenly remembered why he had walked into the shop in the first place, he was hungry. “Ah...” He chuckled softly. “Your offer is certainly tempting Theo, there are quite a few items I would love to have back in Erais, but your advice on a decent spot for a meal would be more than enough.”

Theodore simply grinned when Sol mentioned he was hungry, looking to see Sophia was on the stairs again he stuck his tongue out at his daughter -who giggled down at him- and then made a few wiggling movements with his fingers until she nodded and ran back up the stairs. It was a form of sign language the pair had developed some time ago, developed when travelling from Zorabelo to Tarapar and her answer had been
"Well," he said as he turned back to Sol, "If you like and you don't consider it inappropriate at all you can stay and have dinner with us - I'm a fair cook or so I'm told and Sophia would be more than happy to have some company in the house over a meal, she's too isolated I'm afraid which is mostly my fault."

Sophia ran back down a few moments later, running right up to Sol and stopping dead in front of him. Now that she was here and no longer slightly hiding away she was clear and able to be properly studied by Sol. She wasn't very tall, but then again she was only five years old, and her blonde hair was long and worn in pigtails over her shoulders, slightly dirty blonde rather than platinum but still quite pretty. Her eyes were enormous and blue, the exact same shade of blue as her fathers and her nose and cheeks were also clearly his.
"Please Mister," she said solemnly, holding out her small and still slightly chubby hand to shake, "My papa is so lonely, he needs a friend."

To which Theodore just facepalmed.
