The People's Protection Units (Kurdish: یەكینەكانی پاراستنی گەل/Yekîneyên Parastina Gel) commonly known as the YPG, are the official armed wing of the Kurdish Supreme Committee. The militia has been accused of acting as the armed wing of the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD), although they deny this. The group has taken a defensive position, fighting against any group that has the intention of bringing the Syrian civil war to Kurdish inhabited areas. [6] [7] The group was founded by the PYD and the Kurdish Supreme Committee after the 2004 Qamishli clashes but it was not until recently they became active.[8] As of the signing of the Arbil Agreement by PYD and KNC the Armed Wing came under the command of the Kurdish supreme Committee though in reality it is almost exclusively still the armed wing of the former[9]—and is responsible for maintaining order and protecting the lives of residents in Kurdish neighbourhoods.[10][11][12]

The YPG is composed of youths from communities across the Kurdish region of Syria. The YPG considers itself a democratic people's militia and conducts internal elections as a method of appointing officers.[13] Though predominantly Kurdish, the group has attracted some Arabs defecting from the mainstream opposition.[14] They are known for their large number of women fighters. [15]

In late July 2012, the People's Protection Units pushed out government security forces from the city of Kobanê (Ayn al-Arab) and took over Amuda and Efrîn.[11][12][16] As of December 2012, the YPG consists of eight brigades. Some of these brigades operate in Efrin, Qamishli, Kobane and Sere Kanye.[17]

Conflict has grown between the YPG and Islamists after they expelled a group of Jihadists from the Syrian border town of Ras al-Ain. [18]

I don't know that much about weapons, and can't really see the trucks well at the end of the clip.

Regarding clearing or disarming the IED's - from what I can see, it looks like the bombs are designed to be ignited by electrical charges (squibs) that require an electric charge to be activated, they look homemade, low tech, and not that sophisticated (however that's what the ISIS was very effective at using them in Iraq). And it looks like they are connected by the electrical wires in parallel (probably meant to all explode at once to hit a convoy of vehicles as the pass by). So they simply have to remove the energy source that was connected to the electrical wires that he is cutting. The guy looks like he is very experienced, and he is being a little cautious incase they booby trapped them. I would be placing a shield if it were me.

The YPG are the rebirth of Saladins army.

Heval they are very advanced, and it's obvious that they have experts from many various fields and they are experienced. Today they probably are the biggest unified single military force in all of Syria. Many Christians and Arabs are joining them now after they saw them in action, and also feel safer because thy know that Kurds are kind and tolerant towards others.
