Who is the de facto ruler of Gibet? What is the government like? Is there universal suffrage? What are major minority groups? How are they treated? What is the most common religion? Are most people devout? Is there a state religion? |

Ebatica, 1) Despite the Imperial Federation being a "representative monarchy", the Emperor has always held final say over all matters of state, governemnt, society, and the economy; although, he often times lets the experts have their input as to what direction the Federation should go. 2) Officially, the Imperial Federation is ruled by a joint-parliament of twenty six members; two from each of the Imperial provinces. And from those twenty six, an Emperor is chosen to act as the executive authority for life. Those twenty six are basically members of political parties found across the nation, and in recent years, the majority of this parliament has been taken over by an immensely-popular Nationalist movement. However, the power behind the throne has always been the dictatorial Emperor, who has always been given the choice of either accepting or refusing any appointment to this parliament. Universal suffrage is typical in all areas of Gibet-proper; excluding territories added after the last successful war of conquest. Tyrollians are granted the same rights as every other Gibetan, while Schwartz-volk and Westphalians suffer from political and social discrimination; due to the fact that Westphalia has been officially placed under strict military governship since 1978. 3) For the most part, the Imperial Federation has been primarily made up of four ethnic groups; Gibetans (think like Western/Northern Europeans/Germanic), Schwartz-volk (literally "black people", from the former overseas colonies), Tyrollians (think Southern Europeans/Italians), and Westphalians (Eastern European/Slavic). Historically, Gibetans have always been the ruling group; being comprised of the original thirteen territories that formed "Gibet", and considered vastly superior until the crushing defeat of the Gibetan military in the Autumn Conflict, when another Imperial Province, Ostmarche, won its independence, only to be swallowed up by another regional power. Tall, pale, and very Prussian in mannerisms, they have come to personify the typical Gibetan. They make up fifty-eight percent of the population. The Schwartz-volk have always suffered intense discrimination from all other ethnicities within the borders of the empire. Hailing from distant, equatorial colonies now long lost in previous wars, there are hardly any of these people left in the empire; through purges and mass exoduses. Currently, they make up only seven percent of the total population. The Tyrollians are the second largest ethnicity within the empire, and have always had a prosperous relationship with Gibetans. Characteristically of medium height and build, tanned, and hailing from coastal-based families, the Tyrollians have been the best treated of the other minorities; due largely in fact to their friendliness and acceptance of Gibetan rule, as well as their outright full-cooperation with the authoritarian majority. They make up twenty percent of the population. The Westphalians, comprising fifteen of the population, have always been troublesome to the empire. From the beginning, when Westphalia was annexed into the Imperial Federation, its populace has constantly waged a war of "holy" proportions. To them, the struggle for independence is something that all must give their lives for. As a result, the small territory of Westphalia has been ravaged severely by internal conflict and strife. The attempts to keep Westphalia in the Federation have resulted in thousands of Gibetan dead and hundreds of thousands of civilian and mercenary dead. 4) The Imperial Federation prides itself on being entirely Christian; with a vast majority practicing "Non-Denominational Christianity"; meaning they follow the basic law and guidelines of the religion, but do not specifically claim Catholic, Protestant, or others. As a result, Christianity has been made the State Religion. |

Considering the militaristic nature of Gibet, what is the likelihood of a coup? Have there been any coups? |

The Imperial Federation of Gibet is nationalist-leaning, and we will admit that the government (as well as the general population) has not been very kind to Communist or Socialist-leaning parties. In truth, prior to the establishment of a Federation, the country was lead by multiple leaders of the GNSP; the Gibetan National Socialist Party. Despite the marks left by those individuals, we have made great strides toward fair treatment of Communists. **Little known fact (unless you've looked way back in my posts), our current leader, Rudolph Schlesser, was formerly head of the GNSP (prior to its fracturing at the end of the Gibet-Britannia War) and leader of the nation for the longest; being leader from the death of Adolph Hess, to the end of the Britanian war, then returning now. He (Schlesser) married "Princess" Anne Speer of Tropicarno, a communist country; he was the only leader of the GNSP to rpomote unity between the Party and Socialist parties/countries. Anarchists are generall frowned upon; and are regularly beaten and/or jailed. No one likes people who hate ANY form of major leadership, after all. Homosexuals are a very small fraction of the population, however they are not without their rights. Despite openly positive legislature by the government, the general populace finds them...disturbing. (This does not reflect my own, personal views, though). Military conscription? It is not officially referred to as such, but it is stressed that it is a patriotic duty to serve the Federation for a minimum of three years. |

The Imperial Government does not entirely "hate" East Armandia; we simply take a dim view of what is coined "Slavic Totalitarionism" by various parties in the nation. It is especially difficult for most members of the government to have stable relations with E.A. becuase our own nation was torn apart by a great civil war (the first one following our unification) that is generally accepted as having been caused by Communist/Slavic seperatists. Nothing personal, strictly...oh, wait. |

The likelihood of a coup is not especially high right now, as Rudolph Schlesser is a well-liked leader by both the political and military sections of the government. As well, the population, though harbouring some resentment over his mis-handling of the Britannian War, consider him a national hero. Have their been any coups? Plenty. Following the end of the Gibet-Britannian War, and the disappearance of Schlesser under the guise of an assassination, the next few years were frought with fractured-elements of both the military and government attempting to sieze power. There were a number of "Loyalist" forces consisting of members of the Reichstag and the military who remained defiantly loyal to the ways and policies of the Schlesser regime. For the next three decades, Gibet would be torn both by internal strife and conflict, as well as foriegn invasions primarilly carried out by the nation of Nitom. |
