Your lack of self-worth makes itself obvious in your futile attempt to sarcastically and verbally abuse a 12 year old boy... on the internet. |

Chapter 26 Fef Military Base – Female Personnel Dorm Rooms 1931 Hours Day of the Funeral There, that was all of her clothes in a backpack. Her katana attached to her belt, her cell, what else did she need… Dammit, she needed to get out now. Pendant was in her room, which she shared with FEGirl. Her suitcase was all packed and ready to go, she had all the needed supplies to last out on the streets for a few days…she had enough money, yeah… The door to her room opened. Pendant spun around and pointed an index finger at it, which was getting loaded with wind psynergy as she focused it. It was FEGirl, who looked like she was about to faint from the sight of Pendant ready to attack her. Pendant lowered her finger with a sigh of relief, “Oh, good. It’s just you…” “Who’d you think I was!?” FEGirl asked with her mouth wide open as she closed the door. Pendant zipped up the backpack and started for the door, not answering the question. FEGirl stood in her way, “Hey, hey, just where do you think you’re going?” “Out.” “Yeah, out where?” “I…can’t say. They’ll get you too.” Pendant said with her eyes drooped. FEGirl raised an eyebrow, “Eh? What do you mean?” Pendant didn’t look like she really wanted to answer. “Well…look. You’re probably going to get promoted later tomorrow, why not stay a little longer?” FEGirl suggested. “Plus that and you just got out of the Hospital Wing…you sure you’re ok?” “If I stay any longer…look, this place isn’t safe for me anymore. But it’s safe for you…” Pendant said, “FEGirl, promise me you won’t tell anyone that I’m leaving.” “Of course. But…promise me you’ll come back safely.” “Of course.” Pendant quoted the last line. “I gotta go, be very careful of the CSI…tell Zidane to take caution in what you do now, and you do the same.” “Is there something you’re not telling me?” “Just don’t dig into the Military cases any further. You’ll only get into trouble.” Pendant walked past FEGirl, and out the door. “W, wait!” FEGirl turned around, but Pendant was already gone. And she wouldn’t come back for a while. --- The streets of downtown Fef. Casinos, arcades, 5-star hotels, clubs, restaurants, fast food, shopping plazas, all kinds of entertainment. She hadn’t been down here casual in a while. Pendant was on a sidewalk with a backpack in hand, with a thin white jacket over a tank top, and a skirt on. She had just changed once she had the chance to when she was far away enough from the military base. Her face had been on the news frequently now, but she wasn’t sure how else to make herself look different than putting her hair up and a pair of sunglasses. She wasn’t much for disguises. She quickly had sold her katana to the black market. Nothing more suspicious than carrying around a large weapon like that. She was strong enough with her psynergy alone, anyway. “Now, if I were Jaffar, where would I be?…” Pendant asked herself silently, looking down each side of the large street. This street was full of casinos, hotels, and clubs. All of which bore bright lights, some casinos having blinking neon lights, and the club music pounding outside on the sidewalks. She could smell all kinds of fast food right now. The sugar from fried dough, the grease of hot dogs and fries… “…Great.” She rolled her eyes. How was she supposed to find Jaffar in this mess!? And of all people, it was Jaffar. Jaffar. The emotionless ego-busting man. She remembered that she had heard of them joining the Warrior’s Guild, but that was just a rumor…but she didn’t have any other leads now, did she? She waved her hand over the street while standing on the sidewalk. “Taxi!” A yellow taxi quickly pulled up. She opened the back door and entered, with her backpack. She closed the door after taking a whiff of the gross smell of cigarettes and pizza in the car. “Where to, missy?” The taxi driver, Richie asked. He looked incredibly young to drive a car. Pendant was pretty sure that he had gotten pulled over for under-age driving on multiple occasions. “Greth’s Bar, please.” “…sure thing.” Richie said, with a hint of confusion. He hit the pedal, then quickly the brakes. Pendant’s forehead hit the back of the seat from the sudden brake, “Ow!! Warn me next time you do that…” “We’re here.” “What?” “Greth’s bar, right?” “…yeah.” “That’d be 25 gold for the fixed rate.” Pendant looked outside her window, and sure enough, GRETH’S BAR was standing there right before her. She gave a sigh, she was standing right under it while she was thinking all this time. She opened the door and exited. Richie yelled at her, “Hey, what about my pay!?” “Bite me.” “Well, how about just a kiss on the cheek? That would count as 50 gold, I’ll give ya 25 in change!” Pendant ignored Richie and entered the bar. After she closed the door, she sighed “…I hate men.” The bar wasn’t anything fancy. No bright, fancy lights. The lighting was fairly dim, but had enough light to be capable of reading a book. Beside her was a staircase leading upstairs, and beside that was the bar itself with some barstools. In the small room there were a few tables with chairs, only one of which was occupied by two old men watching a Fef baseball game on the TV now set above the bar. The same two old men who were there the night that Jaffar had gotten demoted. The two men were not disturbed by Pendant’s entrance, as the bell above the door dinged when she entered. Their trance in the baseball game was strong. Karamello had just slugged his 60th home run of the season against the Few baseball team. No one knew why the owner named his team, Few…people guessed it stood for something. Then again, Fef wasn’t that great of a name either. Pendant walked up to the bar and put her backpack down and took a seat at a barstool. The bartender, Greth was watching the TV. When he heard the bell, before he knew it his first female customer in a few days was at the bar. Greth walked over to her behind the bar, “Why, hello there, Miss. What’ll it be?” “Thanks but, I don’t drink. I do have a few questions, though. I’d appreciate it if you could answer them for me.” “Well, shoot.” “I’d like to know where Jaffar, Garet, Neo, or Leon are right now.” Greth was uninterested in answering the question once Pendant said Jaffar’s name. He turned around, “Sorry, but I said I’m not gonna answer any questions for any reporters.” “I’m no reporter.” “Well, what are you, then? One of Garet’s fangirls?” “Hardly.” Pendant rolled her eyes, “I am…Pendant.” “P-Pendant? Pendant Orez?” Greth turned around with a mug in hand that he was cleaning with a rag, “What do you want with those four? Their bounty, is it? Well forget it, I swore I wouldn’t tell anyone any information about them.” “I am not after their bounty. I…” Pendant tried to explain, but she wasn’t sure if she would be able to gain Greth’s trust with her explanation of the situation, “You’ve seen the news. Hystrix died. He gave me a message, one that I must give to Jaffar…” “Why not just give it to me. I’ll give it to Jaffar.” “Sorry, but you and I haven’t really gotten each other’s trust, as much as I’d like us to. And if you knew of the message, you’d get hunted by the military. I’m being hunted by the military. I’m sure they’ll begin a search soon…” “On the run, eh? After a pretty girl like yourself?” Greth smiled, “Sounds like you got into quite a mess.” “So why don’t you just tell me where Jaffar is?” Pendant asked, aggravated, “If I have to join this Warrior’s Guild to be able to see him, I will.” “A pretty girl in the Warrior Guild? Hah.” Greth laughed, taking the request as a joke. After he realized Pendant wasn’t laughing, he was fairly surprised she was being serious, “Really, now? You do realize that you may be um…how to say it…” “You might get raped.” He put it bluntly. Very bluntly. “I’m not as weak as I look.” Pendant said, “I’m one of the top users of psynergy at the Military.” “Long as you sign this here insurance paper, that we are not legible for any injuries you may encounter…or death.” Greth pulled out an application with a pen, “Just sign there.” “Fine.” Pendant didn’t bother to read the fine lines. If Jaffar would take the job, then it couldn’t be some scam. She signed it, and handed the pen and paper back. “Remember, if you go back to the military you’re gonna get another enemy…” Greth warned. “Like I said, I’m on the run from them. Just tell me where Jaffar is.” “The four went out. Leon was raving on how he was going to be at the Toxic Club. Saying how he’d be sure to be capable of picking up a girl tonight.” Greth snorted, “Can’t say I know what the others are planning. They should be back here later today, though…through the back door. The press come here sometimes now. Always gotta show them out.” “Toxic Club? Thanks.” Pendant got up and grabbed her backpack, heading for the door. Greth simply watched her walk out, smiling. Business at the bar was slow, but the Warrior Guild was getting more and more popular ever since Jaffar’s entrance. Pendant immediately stopped once she stepped back onto the sidewalk. She had forgotten to get directions from Greth. She growled at herself, she was really out of it tonight. Richie’s taxi was still there. Pendant shrugged, and entered the taxi yet again. When she closed the back door, Richie looked up at his rear-view mirror and smiled, “Hey, missy. Back to give me my pay?” “Bring me to Club Toxic and you’ll get your pay.” “…Toxic? You sure?” “Yes.” “…sure thing!” Richie hit the pedal, then suddenly hit the brakes again. Pendant’s face hit the backseat hard, her nose felt numb. She was afraid she had gotten a bloody nose this time, “Goddammit!” She grabbed a tissue and wiped her nose, but to her luck, no blood. “That’d be 50 gold, miss.” Pendant looked out the window. She glared at the sight of it. Club Toxic It really has been a while since she’s been down here casual. She opened the door without a word, and slammed it once she was on the same sidewalk again. Richie brought down his electric-powered window and yelled, “HEY! My pay!! Give me a kiss on the cheek and it’ll all be even!” Pendant spun around with backpack in hand, pointed a finger at the hood of the car, and released her dangerous anger-powered electric psynergy. This time it was the size of a mini-Hummer, which collided into the engine of the taxi, and made millions of parts explode inside. Richie had escaped by pressing the “Eject” button on his seat, which sent him out through the sun roof. When he landed on his butt on the cement, he was now glad that he had that thing installed. Pendant entered the club that had no line or bouncer before Richie would sue her. “I hate the male species.” She fixed her sunglasses, the explosion gave a slight gust of dust to them. Whatever. The club looked like any ordinary dance place. Dark, large room. DJ up on stage, pounding rap music and lots of neon lights bouncing over the place. It was quite crowded too, a person passed by Pendant sucking a glowing pacifier. Quite odd. How was she supposed to find Leon in this mess? He’d be easier to find than Jaffar…or maybe he wouldn’t. Jaffar would be standing by the wall at the entrance with that dead look he gave most people. And she hadn’t seen what the four looked like now. She thought she saw some people up on a roof at Hystrix’s funeral that day, but… She tried going towards the small, circle-shaped bar in the center of the room. It had many bright white lights, so it wasn’t difficult to miss, even with the crowd of people surrounding it. She pushed and shoved her way into the crowd for it, while experiencing many different scents of people. Many different types of BO on different levels. She just absolutely loved the combination of Liquor, BO, and urine combined into one. Lovely and sanitary. “Why hello there, ladies! Did you know that those martinis that you’re drinking have just as many calories in them as donuts?” Pendant raised an eyebrow. That wasn’t a true fact. She continued pushing and shoving through the crowd. If she got groped there would be consequences. “Whaaaaat? Really?” “Yup, but I know a way that you can both burn those calories right off ~♥” “How?” “My place, my bed! Your clothes, off!” Pendant couldn’t see the scene happening, she was quite surprised she could hear the conversation. The crowd though was pretty rough, just to get to the center of the room was rough… “Hey, wait!! Come on! It’s a sure-fire plan!” “What about you? If you were a booger, I’d pick you first ♥” “COME ON. Urgh. Hey, is my underwear showing? No? Would you like it to?” The crowd had suddenly lost its density. Lots of people were leaving. Mostly women. Pendant now had a view of the bar. Only one man was left sitting at it, with no one around him. He had a beer bottle in one hand, which just got re-filled. He wore transparent sunglasses, one lens broken at the bottom. A leather jacket, white undershirt, faded dark jeans, white hair, and a broken smile. She walked up to the bar and sat down next to him casually. His smile returned, “Hey, can someone vacuum my lap? This lady needs a clean place to sit!” “Ugh.” Pendant took off her sunglasses and placed them on the bar. The man, Leon, raised a brow, “Oh, so this one isn’t running away.” He licked his thumb, then put it on Pendant’s thin white jacket, “How about you get those wet clothes off?” “Leon, you fully know well that I will and am fully capable of killing you if you continue.” “Oh shnap! A feisty lady!! I think we must’ve gotten off on the wrong foot if you remember me like that…” Pendant glared at Leon. She couldn’t believe he was so dense he couldn’t recognize her. How many drinks has he had? She put her hair down again. Leon turned red and almost fell off his barstool, “P-PENDANT!?” “Leon.” “Y-Y-You-you wear…normal clothes!?” “What, am I not human!? I was going to say the same thing about you!” “Yeah but, I never imagined you as…um…what’s the word…normal?” “You know you’re just digging yourself a deeper hole.” “Yeah.” Leon smashed his head on the bar, still holding onto his beer, “So, what brings you here to this place? Suddenly decided to become social and crawl out of that CSI lab?” “I need to see Jaffar.” “OH GREAT. For some reason the girls are always over that guy. I don’t get it! WHAT’S HIS SECRET!? Must be the eye-patch-rag-thing. Do girls really dig guys who only show one eye?” Pendant wanted Leon’s useless rambling to stop. Now. She had too many encounters with mentally disabled males to last her a lifetime, “Look. I need to tell Jaffar something that Hystrix told me before he died.” “Oh? Right…Hystrix…” Leon suddenly became serious, sitting straight up and looking blankly at the crowd before him. Or more likely, staring at nothing but his memories. “What…may I ask what he said?” “Hey, aren’t you Leon?” A girl appeared behind Leon with a long, leather jacket on and sunglasses set above her forehead, in her hair. She looked attractive, and the same age as Leon. Leon turned around on his stool and smiled, “Oh, wait. Put that Hystrix thing on hold.” “Yeeees? Why? Do I have a fan?” Pendant found it fairly disgusting how fast Leon could switch from being serious to going back to idiot-mode so fast. “If your last name is Enduro.” The woman said. “Looks like you got LUCKY!” He waved his hand in front of her chest, “I am a magical being. Taaaaake of your bra~” The line didn’t work. Instead, the woman reached into her jacket and pulled out a pistol and aimed it at Leon’s forehead, “I am Crysta. Bounty hunter.” “Oh shit.” |
