Chapter 32

Bosco stopped. He stared in awe at the desert base’s entrance, while standing on the burning desert sands, and the humid air blowing in his face. He didn’t understand it. He completely recognized this place. Well, not completely, he felt like he had seen the place before, but couldn’t put his finger on it. He remembered seeing some people and things in there…but the place didn’t look as destroyed as it did today, although it did look in disarray then…

Suddenly, the desert scenery disappeared.

He was right there in that hallway leading to the outside. He was soaking wet wearing a very large dark brown cape, so large that it covered his entire body, front and back. He ran out the last door, and before him was the firehouse-sized garage door, closed. A large man was beside him, wearing a military uniform with loads of badges pinned on his chest. Bosco couldn’t clearly remember his face, but he remembered the shiny badges with a variety of colors.

The man was friendly, apparently wishing to help Bosco, and somehow could tell that he wanted to cover the youth’s ears from the alarm blaring. Bosco and the man went for the closed garage door, but the man quickly turned his head behind him, as did Bosco. At the door that they had just gone through stood a man with a fair structure, naked. He looked strong, but not grotesque. The military man felt differently about his strength. He pointed at the man, staring in Bosco’s eyes, “Kill! Kill!”

Bosco didn’t understand. The man’s eyes had the elements of fear, fatigue, but somehow…courage. Bosco would think that the courage would cancel out the fear, but…he could still sense that the man was no coward as an incredibly large battle axe appeared in the man’s hand, which he then lifted to his shoulder. It was silver-blue, matching the man’s blue hair. The military man pointed at the naked man again, who simply stood there gawking, “Kill! Kill! That’s an order!”

Once the military man confirmed that Bosco wouldn’t do what he was ordered to do, the military man roared his battle cry and charged for the naked man. Bosco figured that he could take him himself – the naked man was not only unarmed, but his size wasn’t anything special when compared to the military man’s.

But his prediction was wrong. The military man didn’t even make it halfway across the room with his charge, he was stopped swiftly by an invisible wall in the middle of the room, bouncing him back to the feet of Bosco with axe in hand. The naked man then twinkled, and shined brightly. He grew clothes, which was an expensive-looking business suit with a black jacket, black tie. Bosco didn’t understand, but quickly did when the once naked man pointed his index and middle finger at the military man, imitating a gun. Bosco sensed danger. By instinct, Bosco gripped something inside his cape hard. A stiff handle.

No, not that, you dirty person.

He swung it under his cape, and it flapped up, revealing what he was supposedly hiding. A heavy, thick silver sword larger than he, with characters not in the English dictionary. Bosco wore a leather trench coat underneath the cape, with a large collar up, over the dark brown cape. His muscles tensed up, his psynergy erupting. He hadn’t felt strength like this before, not ever. It was like something awakened inside him as he glared at the man in a suit, now staring at Bosco with interest. The man smiled, even as Bosco pointed the gargantuan sword at the man, as if readying his aim. The man in a suit lowered his make-believe gun.

“You…you and I, we are so alike!”

“Kill him, that’s an order!” The military man yelled.

Bosco decided to take the word of the military man. Energy pumping, he felt something else raging inside him as he stared at the man. He felt like he had just analyzed his strength, a being with amazing power. But Bosco stood a chance against him, he could win if he played his cards right. Something sprouted out of his back, he didn’t turn around to see what it was – he knew what they were. Wings. Silver, transparent wings with the same bone structure of a bird, only the bones looking as if they were really there. The feathers looked like the colors inside a prism with the sun shining on it.

Bosco started his dash for the suited man, his objective – terminate target. The suited man kept the smile on, and swung his empty right hand to his right. The large sword Bosco held in his right hand was thrown out, his arm did the same movement as the suited man’s own. Bosco didn’t predict this, but he did now predict the man would dash at him with his own sword and attempt to kill him by swinging the sword at his jugular.

He was correct.

Bosco grabbed the wrists of the man before he swung the sword, and threw the man with sheer momentum 180 degrees, then imitated the man earlier. He pointed his index and middle finger at the man falling towards the ground, and fell his hand back in recoil, “Bang.”

Carnage. It was as if the body disappeared, leaving only a pool of disgusting blood as its residue.

Bosco woke up, he was back in reality. The pool of blood stayed in its place. Zephyr grabbed him by the shoulder, all of them were inside the building now, with the boon corpses down on the ground inside and outside the building. Bosco kept his fingers pointed at the pool of blood, and Zephyr spoke, “How-What the hell!?”

“What?” Bosco asked, as if nothing out of the ordinary happened.

“How the hell did you just do that!? You just like, shot a laser at the guy with your fingers and he exploded!”

“Oh!” Bosco said, a little surprised, as if he had just walked into a surprise birthday party.

“Th, that’s weird.” He then realized what he had just done, “Wait! How did I…!?”

“A little weird, but also pretty sick. What kind of psynergy was that? Sure wasn’t anything Marcus taught you. At least…I hope not. Else he’s been holding out on me!” Zephyr said, smiling.

Marcus wasn’t smiling. He walked up to Bosco slowly, with his bloody katana in one hand. He was right up in Bosco’s face, looking him up and down, examining him. Bosco felt weird with Marcus doing this, or anyone really. The guy was really intense, he had never really seen Marcus act so serious like this before.

Marcus stepped away, and walked to the end of the room where an elevator was, ending the awkward encounter. Bosco stared at Marcus’s bloody katana with a tint of fear. He believed that Marcus was going to cut him down right there. But instead, Marcus pressed a button for the elevator.

“Going down?”

Jaffar had his eye on the set of doors beside the elevator.

“I suggest we split into two groups, cover more area.”

“Do you want to die?” Marcus asked, sternly. Even Jaffar seemed a bit off guard from Marcus’s sudden attitude change.

“I don’t plan on dieing from boons.”

“Yeah. That’s what that Lieutenant thought too, I bet. Hystrix?”

“Hey! Don’t go there!” Pendant exclaimed, stepping forward.

“What? Am I wrong?”

“Probably not, but…”

“Then be quiet and listen to me.” Marcus ordered, “If we split up, you are well aware of the risk that would mean, Jaffar…”

“Marcus. Either we’re splitting up, or I am going on alone.”

“My men are staying with me.”

“That’s what I was planning on. Better relationship and so forth, better teamwork.” Jaffar said, holding one hand on the door. He stared at Marcus with the same glare Marcus was giving him.

The elevator opened and gave off a ding, awaiting for Marcus’s entrance. The Anti-Boon leader didn’t enter just yet. “You do remember the design of this building, no? Mr. Bob, Rock?”

“Doesn’t matter. You and I know this place well enough anyway.” Jaffar answered for the two, “And I’m sure that is has changed over the years with boons living in it.”

“Let’s just freakin’ move. Call me with your mind if you find anything.” Marcus grunted, stepping into the elevator. Mind Bomber followed wearing a perky smile, Zephyr did also looking anxious to cut some boons down. Bob followed after nervously scratching his already ruffled hair.

Bosco hesitated to follow Marcus, but did so in the end. Rock glanced over at Jaffar with the elevator door still open, “Jaffar, I believe it would be best for I to go with Marcus’s group. Mr. Bob is not too-well skilled with fighting, while all five of you were the top of your classes in training.”

“Fine idea, Commander.” Jaffar agreed, “I will see you alive after we are all done with this, sir.”

“Likewise.” Rock entered the elevator, which had just enough room to fit the six men. Before the doors fully closed shut, Jaffar heard Marcus’s faint voice, “Only I am allowed to kill you.”

Garet cleared his throat, getting Jaffar’s attention, “Sir, why…”

Garet quickly stopped himself. Jaffar met eyes with him. “Why what? You may finish.”

“…nothing, sir.”

Garet could feel the eye under Jaffar’s bandana giving him an annoyed look. “Marcus wouldn’t mind killing me because of…internal conflicts we had due to his leave. Or so I believe.”

Garet flinched, “Is it really necessary to read my mind like that, sir?”

“Let’s move. I’m sure many parts of this building are closed off that we need to open.” Jaffar explained, “We are on the ground floor, there is no upper. Only lower.” He pushed the door that he held his hand on open, “Let’s go now. The security room should be further ahead on this floor, where we will open the closed sections.”

The tip of a sword dashed at Jaffar’s face, whom responded by narrowly pulling his head back for it to miss cleanly. Leon spun one pistol in hand, then fired a bullet straight above Jaffar’s nose, past the blade, into the face of the boon awaiting for the officer’s entry behind the closed doors. It fell with a sound collapse, dead. No friends were with apparently with him in the hallway. Jaffar brought his head back up calmly after the brink of death, a walk in the park. “Let’s be more careful than that.”

---/

“Shit.”

Gojira cursed in the computer room with Omni staring at the computer monitor with the same aggravated look, except less aggravated than Gojira, who looked like he wanted to start throwing things across the room. However, there was also a dab of fear in his expression as well, “Omni.”

“Yes?”

“Did you see what that young boy did to that private?”

“Of course I did. It is almost identical to what the Commander can do, but…his is flawless.”

“He’s the one. I’ve seen him before in the military and such, he’s a fresh recruit…brushed with death a few times, but…how did he end up there?”

“Who knows.”

“This is bad news. According to the archives the only one who can even stand a chance against him is the Commander.” Gojira grit his teeth and rubbed his tight forehead to calm himself down.

“Signal coming from the commander, speak of the devil.” Omni announced, when a small, bright red icon appeared in the corner of the computer screen. Gojira gulped and slowly nodded “Answer.”

“Affirmative.”

The blipping signal in the corner grew and a window appeared in its place, showing a live feed from another room in the building. Eaichu and Psio stood, both not looking too pleased as they stared into the camera, “Omni, Gojira. Report.” Eaichu simply said.

“The headquarters have been found, sir. The invading hostile company includes the likes of Marcus, Jaffar, and the former General Rock, sir…Marcus has taken half the group that includes the former General down to more than likely the labs, while Jaffar has taken the former military officers to examine the ground floor. He’ll probably be coming for this room soon enough.” Gojira reported.

“Hmn. This poses a minor problem. Marcus knows how to deal with boons better than Jaffar, so Eagle shall go meet him.” Psio said, “What of Reaver?”

“He is in the city planting the devices as we speak.”

“Good. As soon as he is done then we can stop Jaffar’s group at the very least.” Psio smiled. “Hostages always put a leader-like character in his place.”

“But sir…there is something more important in the company of Marcus…a much bigger threat than even all three of the Anti-Boon leaders.” Gojira said, trembling a bit. Eaichu raised an eyebrow, “What, pray tell?”

“They…they hold…the Valkyrie.”

“What!? The Valkyrie!? That thing was supposed to…supposedly destroyed!” Psio exclaimed.
“Damn! Is it mature?”

“Apparently he doesn’t even know how to properly use his powers yet. He did destroy a boon with the point of a finger, though…”

“Those are mere privates. If the damn thing blinked enough they would collapse of exhaustion.” Psio said with his tone rising. “I am going with Sam to terminate that thing before it wreaks anymore havoc. Destroy the monster before it hatches.”

“I shall stay here with our guest, then.” Eaichu said, and looked back at Omni and Gojira, “Contact Reaver and tell him to return after he completes his mission ASAP.”

The connection was closed, and the window only showed a black screen. Gojira groaned, then slammed his fist against the wall. “You heard him. Get Reaver on the line. We shall not fall so easily.”
