Chapter 17

“Do you have any last words as well, Marcus?”

Marcus was sitting on a simple wooden chair with his hands binded to the back of it with psynergy-binding cuffs. Beside him in the same situation was Zephyr. Both were blindfolded.

Where they were? Fef Military HQ, the Execution room. The room simply was a long, dark shooting range, with the convicts as the targets. Dozens of yards away from the two jailbirds stood a unit armed with basic guns of the military.

This room was surrounded by bullet-proof glass, with a small set of chairs for an audience. The glass even had a curtain. The curtain was closed.

Bryars, in the small two-dozen audience, found it odd that there were no family members for the victims of Marcus and Zephyr wishing to see the execution of these two insane killers. Only soldiers were here. But, he didn’t wish to get into private matters. Soldiers don’t do that.

The curtain now opened. The question that stood before Marcus was spoken by the one who declared the execution, weeks ago. Reaver stood in a small booth next to the audience with a small telephone to his mouth, which ran over to a speaker in the execution room itself. Marcus gave a faint smile, “Yes, as a matter of fact, I do.”

“Please, for our sakes, do not make this dramatic.”

“Oh yes, because I owe all of you for this pleasure of killing me. Favors, favors…” Marcus stretched his neck. He would’ve stretched his legs but they were also locked up to the chair as well. “Reaver, what of my little trinket?”

“Hm?”

“I hope you make good use of it, Reaver-boy.”

Reaver looked confused. He clearly did not know what Marcus was talking about at all, “Is that your final statement in your lifetime?”

“Fire away, boys! Don’t miss! I’d have to kill you in the afterlife for embarrassing my infamous execution!! Hahaha!” Marcus crackled, not worried about this at all. Zephyr was unusually quiet on the other hand, biting his lower lip. Reaver shrugged, “Wish granted. Soldiers, load your weapons.”

The unit loaded their guns and aimed at the pair in a quicker time than even Reaver expected.

“Fire and execute.” The Colonel ordered.

The crack from the lead bullets being fired from the barrel of the guns ripped through the air. The moment was so slow-paced that Apocalypse – in the audience, could see the air traveling behind the bullets. Hell, he could see the bullets.

KRAM.

Reaver’s perfect stare at the scene was interrupted. An earthquake entered the scene, and a large slab of earth crushed between the bullets and their targets. The execution room was filled with dust, everyone held something in front of their mouths to keep the dust from entering their lungs. Reaver held a handkerchief, “W-What!?” He said, muffled, “Soldiers, check the scene! Check the scene, now!! Someone get me a Wind Adept to clear the dust, dammit!!”

Apocalypse; fully recovered with no sling from Marcus’s attack weeks ago, ran up to the bulletproof glass and held his hand against it. He concentrated his earth psynergy and the glass was ripped open. Wide enough for him to get through. He leapt through and entered the dust, covering his mouth with just his hand. He coughed hard, he couldn’t see a thing!

The dust was blown away from a powerful gust, casted by Pendant. She entered through the same hole Apocalypse had entered through. The military could now see what happened clearly. A large slab of earth stood in front of where the two convicts awaited death, bouncing off the bullets, and a large hole ripped through beside them in the ground. Their escape-route.

Bryars entered the Execution room via Apocalypse’s entrance and saw the hole. He grunted as he jumped towards it, but Apocalypse grabbed him by the collar and prevented him from entering.

“H-Hey, what are you doing!? Let me get down there before they escape!”

“Zephyr is an earth adept. He can easily cave-it in, Bryars.” He lifted him back to the solid ground, “Think before you jump into a mess like that.”

Bryars huffed a, “Yes, Apoc.”

Reaver smashed his fist against the glass in anger. He grabbed the telephone and punched in a few numbers, and his voice was heard on each and every loudspeaker in the building, “Marcus and Zephyr have escaped, repeat, Marcus and Zephyr have escaped!! All personal, find them! They had help! There are at least three of them together! Find them, dead or alive! I don’t care, just get them to me!”

“Colonel!”

Reaver turned around to exit his booth, but turned his head over his shoulder to see who called him, “What is it, Lt?”

“You said that this would be a mock execution! I saw bullets fired, sir!” Apocalypse complained.

“Those bullets were meant to miss, Lt. I had word with the firing squad before the execution to miss their targets on the first shot. They are expect marksmen, they wouldn’t accidentally hit a target.”

“That’s the excuse?” Pendant huffed.

“Maybe it is, Major. Now get going and get me those fugitives!!” Reaver ordered, and retreated from his booth to another part of the Military Base. Bryars looked down at the large hole beside him, it looked like a small meteor smashed into the room. “What do we do now?”

“We go look at the security tapes.” Pendant suggested, “Zephyr wasn’t able to use psynergy, so like Reaver said, there was a third person in this.”

“But who? All of Anti-Boon was captured, according to the member base at The Casino.” Apocalypse asked.

Bryars shrugged, “Let’s ask questions later and go check the security tapes now.”

“Aye. What wing is the security office at?”

---

---

A couple hours later at the Military base, Apocalypse and Bryars were at the CSI lab watching Pendant and Kovu examine the security tape with what looked like a large computer. There was an equally large monitor above the equipment, playing the tape. Kovu was at the keyboard, looking up at the large monitor as the other three military officers watched.

This was the second time they watched the small amount of tape over. After this third one, Bryars started to wonder, “What exactly are we looking for?”

“For one, to see if we can even find any kind of trace of who casted that earth psynergy. So far, it doesn’t look like anyone in the audience casted it.” Kovu explained.

“So it was from right under, then.” Apocalypse figured.

“Seems so. But we already know who it was, from looking at another tape at the base.” Pendant inserted another tape she had in her hand, into the computer. On the monitor, another screen appeared next to the Execution. It was at the Military Jail, and from what the two Lts saw, it looked like a small jailbreak. It was in black and white, and somewhat fuzzy, but they could see it was Marcus and Zephyr’s cell that was being videotaped.

Marcus was leaning against the cell door, with no guards in sight. The anti-boon leaned over to the corner, beside another cell.

“From another angle…” Kovu punched in a few keys and the tape’s angle was shifted from instead of viewing down the hall, to directly in front of Marcus’s cell and the one beside him. The wall wasn’t extremely thick, Marcus could probably reach his arm out of the cell door and reach his hand in the cell beside him. Instead of seeing that happen, they saw Marcus flick his wrist a bit.

Without anyone asking him to, Kovu rewinded the tape to before Marcus flicked his wrist. It played, and Kovu paused this time when he saw the motion. He zoomed in on Marcus’s hand. The company saw a key being tossed casually towards the cell.

“How’d he manage to get a key?” Bryars asked, a little aggravated that it was so easy to break out of the top Military Jail.

“Marcus knew he was getting into jail. I’m guessing that when Zephyr attacked the jail, he used his earth psynergy to mimic the master jail key when he killed the guardsmen.” Kovu explained, “They aren’t idiots.”

“Never would’ve thought of that.” Apocalypse said, surprised by their wit.

Kovu zoomed out and played the tape. They now could notice the faint shape of the key in the air before the cell. A lone convict snatched the key out of the air from within his cell. It was Bosco. He turned his head towards Marcus, and the two seemed to have started a conversation.

“Bosco!? That little guy? How’d he get in jail!?” Apocalypse thought he couldn’t get more surprised than this.

“According to our logs, he killed Yotsuba, a Major in the military on the night when we were all out invading The Casino.” Pendant explained. Apocalypse lost his own bet, he was on the level beyond surprised, “A trained Major!? A private killing a Major? That kid is pretty skilled! Or he snuck up behind Yotsuba…”

“No, with Yotsuba’s body and a lot of evidence, the Major and Bosco had a little scuffle. Unfortunately the security cameras were hacked on the night of the attack…”

“Figures.” Bryars shook his head, “So now we know that Bosco helped Marcus and Zephyr. With me and Apocalypse not knowing that he was under arrest, if he has his uniform on and was walking through the hallways he more than likely would have gone un-noticed.”

“Now on to the other part…” Pendant walked up to the keyboard and started to punch in some keys in front of the confused Kovu. The CSI assistant raised an eyebrow, “Other part? What else do we need to know?”

“I don’t trust Reaver as far as I could throw him.” Pendant continued to punch in more keys and the first video took up the full screen. It played in fast forward, then rewinded and paused as the firing squad took aim. They fired in slow motion, and the screen was paused yet again. Pendant hit a few more keys and dotted lines showed up where the bullets were. They were lengthened towards the two convicts and slowly moved in their direction.

The tape suddenly turned fuzzy and blacked out. Pendant raised one of her own eyebrows and quickly turned around. “W-Where did you come from, Lt Colonel!?”

Gojira was before them without anyone noticing his presence. He held the tape in his hand, looking disappointed, “Pendant, you know full well that you can’t just take any of the security tapes without permission from the General himself.”

“What kind of a ridiculous rule is that!? And with the General in his current condition—“

“He’s actually stable, Pendant.”

“I still didn’t wish to bother him and his rest. This was urgent.”

“Urgent? What for? The Colonel had recently reported that Bosco was the responsible one of the trio. You, being an officer of the military should be out on the streets right now! Go and find those four. That goes for you two as well, Lts.”

“Four? What are you talking about? Isn’t it just three?” Bryars asked.

---

The smell was fairly bad, but Marcus thought it was a decent trade off compared to enjoying a permanent stay at the Military Base until his death. Which according to Reaver’s plans, was a few minutes ago.

Zephyr took a big whiff of the air in the sewers of Fef. He and Marcus no longer were binded by the psynergy-handcuffs. He held his mouth with both his hands and pretended to vomit with the groaning sound and all the body language. Marcus laughed, “What, can’t handle the excitement of being a fugitive on the run, Zephyr?”

The two were up on a dry and slim sidewalk of the sewer. The cruddy river was right before them, between two of the small sidewalks. It was fairly dark, the only source of light was a small fireball bouncing around the pair. What seemed odd about the situation was that neither of the Anti-Boons were fire adepts. Zephyr finally looked up to answer Marcus’s question, “Nah, just the fact that of all the prisoners we had to bribe it was the one who struck me when we invaded that Military dump.”

“Well, look on the bright side! Now you two know each other and we can skip introductions.” Marcus smiled. “C’mon, where is our little savoir anyway? Hiding?”

“I don’t need introductions for two of Fef’s highest wanted criminals.”

Bosco stepped out from the shadows, carrying his own military katana and braggart in hand. He looked different, even though he somehow managed to find his military uniform again instead of the orange prison clothes. Marcus gave a chuckle in his own convict uniform, “Bosco! There you are! Thought we lost you. Thanks sho gettin’ us out of tha joint, we needed yo skillz, fo sho!”

Bosco simply stared at Marcus for a few seconds in the quiet sewer, then finally asked, “What?”

“You don’t understand? Isn’t that the language of you young peeps and all?”

“…not me.”

“Guess just Air Grady talks like that, then.” Marcus said, “Anyway, how’s old Bobby? I can see you got him out fine and dandy with our little light guiding us here. Bob!” He called, “Where art thou?”

“I’m here.” Bob walked over next to Bosco, his orange uniform matched Marcus and Zephyr’s. It was a tad too bright for Marcus’s taste. “Why did you order Bosco to rescue me? He didn’t know the answer when I asked him earlier.”

“Because you’re our grand employer! Can’t have you lying around dead!” Marcus explained, “Reaver would sure to see you executed too! Surprised he hasn’t killed you yet…”

“What do you mean? Kill me, yet?” Bob then seemed to understand before Marcus answered him, “O-Oh. He is…one……I didn’t see it before. That’s trouble.”

Marcus nodded, “But let’s keep walking, I don’t enjoy the thought of being under the Military base, and that their waste is right before me in this muck…”

“Agreed. With only Bosco here with a weapon…and him being an ex-military pup, if we run into any non-nub Military morons we wouldn’t be nice and pretty.” Zephyr said as they walked along the small sidewalk. “Ah, Marcus. Where do we go from here?”

“Anywhere. But, I was thinking of visiting a few friends…”

Chapter 18

Lt. Hystrix was out on patrol with his lower-ranked partner, Sergant Wind Sword. The two were a couple of many officers sent out that night to patrol the city to search and capture Marcus, Zephyr, Bosco, and Bob. The Lt. had decided to drive out in one of the military cars to random clubs in Fef to find their targets. Hystrix didn’t wear his entire ninja get-up, just a garb covering from the nose down to the chin. Or whatever you call them. Tight material that ninjas wear on half their face. Garb? Yeah.

The rest he wore was the standard military uniform with his own katana sheathed within a braggart attached to his waist. While he was driving the car, Wind Sword looked out the window in the passenger seat with his own military uniform on. “Lt., how about we stop down at this club?” He pointed at one that Hystrix would pass by only several seconds ahead. It looked like a regular club with all the neon lights and all flashing outside.

“Sounds like fun.” Hystrix agreed, pulling over and parking at the curb in front of the flashy club. The Lt parked in front of a sign that read, “Tow Zone. No parking 24 Hours a Day.”

“Um, sir. We can’t park here.” Wind Sword pointed out.

“I’m a high-ranking officer in the Military. I’m more worried about this car getting stolen more than it getting towed.” Hystrix opened the door to his car and grabbed his braggart, “Get your katana ready, there is no such thing as a safe club in Fef.”

“Yes sir.” Wind Sword did as he was ordered and stepped out of the car onto the sidewalk with his weapon. The Sergant sighed when he saw that there was a large parking lot right next to the club only several meters away. Whatever.

Wind Sword faced towards the club, it was called, “Flaming Emblems”

The Sergant almost vomited from mentally reading the title, it was such a lame rip. No one in Fef was clever with naming their businesses, anyway. He ignored the name of the club and saw the line, which was larger than Reaver’s ego. It slightly stunned Wind Sword, he didn’t understand why people would wait so long for something.

Before he knew it, his commanding officer was several steps ahead of him. Hystrix was speaking to the large bouncer at the entrance. The bouncer was Flarelord, and was as tall as one and a half Hystrixes. Pretty tall. Yeah.

Wind Sword was too far away to hear anything, but it seemed with all the body language that Hystrix wasn’t going to be able to get in. The Sergant walked on over to settle things out, Hystrix looked like he was starting to get a little tense.

Hystrix was tense. Very. He drew his katana and pointed it at Flarelord’s jugular yelling, “I WANT IN, NOW.”

“Aight, aight! Just hold up, man.” Flarelord squealed from the flash of Hystrix’s weapon and opened the door. Hystrix withdrew his katana and smiled joyfully, then entered the club. When the two entered, they were greeted by a loud blast of techno, rap, and techno rock combined into one. Wind Sword swore one of his eardrums just exploded.

Hystrix tapped Wind Sword on the shoulder, pulling his garb down, “LOUD NOISES!!” He yelled at his voice’s max volume. Although Wind Sword knew his commanding officer was yelling at the top of his lungs, it still sounded like an invisible wall was between the two, it was so muffled-sounding. Wind Sword simply nodded.

The two entered further into the club. It was quite dark inside, the only source of light was up on stage where the DJ was, and where many flashing lights were and disco balls and all the sort. It was difficult to make out anyone in the club dancing. Wind Sword tapped Hystrix on the shoulder, “We should get out of here, we can’t see anyone, sir.”

Hystrix clearly didn’t know what his sergeant just said, “WHAT!?”

“WE SHOULD LEAVE, SIR.” Wind Sword rose his voice. He looked over Hystrix’s shoulder and saw a women doing erotic dance moves to her partner. “WHOA.” Some blood spurted out of Wind Sword’s nose.

Hystrix pointed his finger at Wind’s face, “YOUR NOSE IS BLEEDING. HAVE YOU ALREADY FOUND THE STASH OF DRUGS IN HERE, SERGANT!?”

“WHAT?”

“DRUGS, SERGANT. YOUR NOSE. BLEEDING. SIGN OF YOU SNORTING DRUGS. I WATCHED THE TRAINING VIDEO WHEN I WAS A SERGANT MYSELF, I KNOW.”

“DRUGS? SIR, I’M NOT—“

“DENIAL.” Hystrix sighed. Or at least, his body language gave that off. Wind Sword couldn’t hear it.

“SIR, WE SHOULD LEAVE. MARCUS WOULDN’T BE HERE ANYWAY, IT’S NOT HIS STYLE IN MY OPINION—“

“MARCUS!? WHERE!?” Hystrix spun around and drew his katana while roaring madly, “YOU LITTLE TWITGETOUTTAHEREANDSHOWYOURFACEAGAINSTHEMIGHTYHYSTRIXNINJASKITTLEZ!! TWO HITS. I HIT YOU, YOU HIT THE GROUND.”

After examining the group of dancers he scared the crap out of, he faced Wind Sword again, “SERGANT, I DON’T SEE THE ANTI-BOON LEADER.”

“ARGH. I THINK I HAVE A MIGRANE. LET’S LEAVE, SIR.” Wind Sword took a couple steps towards the exit, holding his forehead. He then felt a strong grip on his left shoulder, which stopped him. Wind Sword was about to turn his head around to Hystrix to tell him yet again to exit the building, but a katana blade to his throat stopped him. Wind Sword took a large gulp as the owner of the sword spoke directly into his ear, “Why, hello, you Military pup. Why don’t you stay? The military and I are such great pals.”

The voice wasn’t familiar to Wind Sword, so the Sergant asked, “Who are you?”

“The owner of this club’s top bouncer. Name’s Merk.” He introduced himself as he ripped Wind Sword’s braggart off his belt.

“If you’re acting like this to just me and my Lt, then I think ‘hit-man’ fits you better than, ‘bouncer’.” Wind Sword replied, “Who is the owner of this club?”

“Yzarc!” Hystrix yelled, but not too loud, otherwise Merk’s partner would’ve had a high chance of killing the Lt. Hystrix was in the same position Wind Sword was in, a man behind them with a sword to their throat. It was so dark in the club that no one even noticed the unsheathed weapons.

“Sir?” Wind Sword was confused on Hystrix’s comment.

“Merk is an alias, I’ve heard of it at HQ! Aka SkyFireZero, his employer and boss is Yzarc!”

“Yzarc? The big gang lord!?” Wind Sword was surprised and also slightly aggravated. Of all the clubs he had to barge into it was the one with the owner being one of Fef’s Most Wanted. And Dangerous.

“Why go to so much trouble just to execute or beat us up? We’re Military – if we don’t report soon they’ll send out a squad to find us. Our swords also have tracking devices, they’ll know where we were.” Wind Sword informed the henchman of Yzarc. Merk simply chuckled, “Hah! But that’s it, I want your buddies to know I did it. I’ll get the credit for killing a high-ranking officer, a Lt! I’ll be jacked all the way up to Fef’s Most Dangerous!”

“So you’re going to do this for urban fame? How low.”

“That’s your opinion, bub. But let’s not make such a fuss of this with all the ladies and all out here, let’s go out back to my boss’s room.” Wind Sword now felt the shape of the front of a pistol press against his back. Merk took the sword at Wind Sword’s throat away. His partner did the same with Hystrix, and also unarmed the Lt.

The military pair had no choice but to follow the unspoken orders given by Merk. They turned to the right and started walking slowly towards a closed red door. When they reached it, Merk’s partner unlocked it with a key and opened it. The four entered, and they were brought down a long and empty hallway. The only thing of relative interest in the hall was the door at the end, which looked like the last red metal door, but had a beaten-up effect on it. Lots of scratches and bullet holes in it.

When Hystrix and Merk’s unspoken partner arrived at the door first, it was opened for them. The Lt groaned, this wasn’t exactly the way he saw himself die. He entered the room, which was a decked-out room, about the size of a large bedroom. It had lots of lava lamps of all the colors, dark purple painted walls with lots of different graffiti on it, and a large speaker connected to the DJ playing the music.

The room was fairly unpopulated, at the end of the room sat the only human beings in the room. Yzarc, with a bling bling hanging down his neck was sitting on a large couch with a woman wearing skimpy clothes on sitting on his lap. Some other girls with equally skimpy clothes sat beside him on the couch vowing for his attention. A couple of his guards with some bling and ghetto urban clothes on stood at each end of the large and long black leather couch, hands behind their back and pistols attatched to their belts.

Hystrix sighed from the sight of this. Wind Sword sighed harder, he was going to get killed by these goons, of all people?

Hystrix and Wind Sword lined up with the two bouncers behind them with their pistols lowered. Wind Sword stared at his commander, snapping his fingers. This was the code for permission to use psynergy, but Hystrix shook his head. The ninja-officer bobbed his head a bit, Wait for my command.

This would’ve been a little easier if Wind Sword and Hystrix could read each others minds with wind psynergy.

“So, what have I earned to get this pleasure? Two military officers at my door…” Yzarc drifted his attention from his women to Hystrix and Wind Sword. He turned down the stereo with a remote so he could be heard. Hystrix raised an eyebrow, “Merk, I thought you wanted to kill us so you could get all the credit. Why bring us here to chump-man?”

“Don’t talk about Mister Yzarc that way!!” One of the guards who stood at Yzarc’s couch pistol-whipped Hystrix across the face. The officer didn’t move his feet, but his face was hit hard, he could hear his neck snap a bit from the sudden impact. ’Just a little stretch was all I needed’, Hystrix thought as he sucked on his bloody lip. He shrugged it off as if he didn’t even get hit.

“Now, now, Teijo Control yourself, I don’t want my guests to report any abuse from my staff.” Yzarc cracked a smile, “Alright, Merk. You have my permission to do away with these two. They’re a sight for sore eyes. You can pick up your reward next week at this very location.”

“Thank you, boss.” Merk smiled, “Shall I do it outside so the ladies won’t see anything?”

“Actually, I’d like to see this execution myself. My limo got a ticket this morning for a bull speeding ticket.” Yzarc kept the smile on his face, with a cigar hanging out of his mouth. “Ladies, please leave for a moment. I’ll get right back to all of you.”

The women moaned, but Yzarc snapped his fingers and ordered them to leave once again. They got up from the black leather couch, and headed towards the red door. When they all exited, the room was left with all of Yzarc’s pimped out accessories and the four gang members and its leader, and of course Hystrix and Wind Sword.

Hystrix looked at Wind Sword and nodded. The sergeant spun around and faced his right palm at Merk and his partner behind them, while Hystrix started to call upon his psynergy to take out the two guards in front of him and Yzarc himself.

But they could feel that something was missing. When they started to use their psynergy, psynergic waves would appear around their body and flow. But nothing was happening. Hystrix continued on even with this missing effect, “Heat Wave!!”

The guards didn’t take any action. They simply stared at the two and laughed, even Yzarc joined in when no fire was summoned from Hystrix. The Lieutenant stared at his own hand in disbelief, “Huh? Why won’t it—“

“Think I wouldn’t see that? Foolish.” Yzarc stood up from his lazy couch, “Don’t ask me how, but I have learned how to disable your psynergy powers. Nifty, no? Neat little trick I was born with.”

“Born with?” Hystrix was stunned, he had never heard of someone who had an ability like this before, “B-Blast!”

“Now then, Merk. Kill these two before I am forced to kill them, I envy those who can use their psynergy like they.” Yzarc ordered. Just about everyone in Fef is an adept, just many cannot control their psynergy to create elemental attacks. The Military teaches people how to use it, and teaching has even gone underground these days.

Merk pulled out his pistol and nodded, “Yes, sir. Thank you for this opportunity.”

He loaded his handgun, with a smile ear to ear.

The red door was blasted open with a small explosion. Hystrix could sense fire psynergy being the cause of it. He and Wind Sword turned around to see the cause as the small amount of smoke cleared.

Hystrix had to blink twice to make sure he wasn’t seeing things in his imagination. He saw four figures up ahead, one of them wore a weathered military jacket. The jacket was open, showing a black shirt and a white collar and undershirt. This man had a black bandana wrapped around his head and covering a small part of his right face, including his right eye. Wind Sword believed he had seen these people before, but—

“We are of the Warrior Guild! Yzarc, Gang Lord, tonight you shall be brought down for the justice of Fef!” The bandana man spoke with a strong voice, drawing his katana.

Wind Sword couldn’t believe his eyes, he turned to Hystrix, who had the same look on his face. “These aren’t just any Military deserters! Are they, Lieutenant?”

“Not at all.” Hystrix looked back at the four, he saw on the far left was a man carrying a large shotgun in his hand. He had a lit cigarette in his mouth, and his hair was fairly ruffled. He also had a small scar on his left cheek. He wore a silver vest with ammunition attatched to the pockets on it. The vest looked bullet-proof, but his cargo pants and military shoes didn’t.

The one next to him had the same color hair as the other’s vest; silver, white, long, and streaky. He wore black sunglasses that had a broken lens over his left eye. He looked fairly casual, wearing clothes that looked like he was going to hit the clubs. An open black leather jacket with a pair of dark navy jeans on. The only way one could really tell he could fight was the katana braggart on his belt and the double jet-black pistols he held in his hands.

Next to that one was the bandana man, then on the far right was a man with flaring red hair. He wore a military jacket, but it was extremely weathered and the sleeves were cut off. He also wore jeans, but kept his military shoes. His weapon was already drawn and in hand, a flaring katana on flames.

“What a raggy bunch we got here. And from the Guild? Dear God, they’re as populated as our bathroom after Vincent craps in it.” Yzarc snickered, not really intimidated by the four who just entered. At first, at least. When he took another glance and saw a couple of raggy Military jackets, he raised an eyebrow, “And just what dead military fool did you pick those off from, wanna-bes?”

“Wanna-Be? I’ll have you know I was one of the top commanders not too long ago.” The red-haired one snorted, “Want me to prove it to you with my skills?”

“That is them.” Hystrix had confirmed it with the red-hair’s last comment.

“Yzarc, I will give you a chance. Have you and your men drop your weapons,” The bandana man stared at the gangster guards who had their pistols pointed at the four, “Or you will be put under our wrath.”

“Merk, show these men out. Kill them if you want.”

“Yes, sir!” Merk pointed his pistol at the man with the shotgun and fired at him, aiming for the face. The man looked fairly bored as he raised his right hand and stopped the bullet in the air, only a mere foot away from his face. “Did you know…”

He flicked his wrist as if he just slapped someone in front of him, and the bullet went in the other direction at nearly the same speed it was shot at. Merk ducked his head to dodge it, he didn’t think this man would’ve killed him immediately like that anyway. He didn’t finish his sentence, “Did you know that there are tiny atoms within a normal Fef bullet that are composed of the earth? Using my psynergy I can really control most bullets with ease.”

“An adept, eh?” Merk leered, he wasn’t expecting this.

“So they really were from the military. Don’t just use guns, get up there and kill them with your swords!!” Yzarc ordered, drawing his own butterfly knife, “Those who kill the most will get a raise from me!”

Yzarc then held one of his hands against his forehead and whispered something. A Green aura surrounded him, then disappeared, “Their psynergy is sealed. Now get them!”

“Psynergy? Sealed?” The white-haired one almost laughed as he rolled up his leather sleeves, while trying to charge psynergy in his palms. Nothing happened. He blinked, and looked identical to Hystrix as he stared at his own palms with a confused look on. “Wha?”

He had to think about that later, one of the guards had leapt up with a machete in hand and was about to attempt to cleave the white-hair’s skull open. White-Hair put his pistols away and drew his own katana and parried the blow, then kicked the guard down onto the ground quickly with his ferocious reflexes and pointed a pistol down on him, with one of his feet pushing down on his pelvis. “Heh, don’t know what your buddy’s deal is, but don’t think you can just rush me like that, bub.”

“Jaffar, be careful, this guy can seal psynergy somehow!” Hystrix warned. He sensed a guard coming up from behind. He avoided a vertical sword-slash by side-stepping out of the way, then socking the guard in the face with his fist.

The bandana man didn’t seem surprised as he heard his name called, “Lt, fancy meeting you here. We can save the small-talk for later.”

Wind Sword spun around and hopped back to avoid a sword strike from yet another guard. “Lieutenant! So those four are really—“

“Yes, they are! But later – right now we need to finish this mission.”

Quite cool, especially the triumphant return of the former top four. So, do all boons have this power of psynergy sealing? I look forward to an explanation. This is rather well written, aside from some grammatical errors. Update soon!

Chapter 19

Wind Sword and Hystrix retreated to the entrance of the room, behind the four former military officers stood. A few more guards were down from the skills of Garet and Jaffar’s close-combat techniques. Only Merk and Yzarc were left standing. Merk roared as he charged with a katana held in his hands, pointing the point behind him as he ran. His target of choice was Jaffar.

The ex-Colonel got into his stance as Yzarc’s bodyguard challenged him. Merk swung his sword at Jaffar’s left side, which was easily and quickly blocked by Jaffar’s own katana. The collision was strong, Jaffar didn’t budge his arms at all from the strike.

Merk had earlier ran out of ammo, he didn’t realize that Neo had crushed all the bullets with psynergy before Yzarc sealed it. All that was left was to stand strong and take down the leader swiftly. Unfortunately for him, Jaffar didn’t have that in mind for tonight. And Jaffar’s plans always went smoothly for him, excluding that iffy night at The Casino.

The two katanas exchanged a few more blows, with Merk’s strikes getting weaker and weaker after each hit. Jaffar noticed this. “Either you’re brave to challenge me, or you’re just an idiot.”

“Only fools cling onto their former glory!” Merk snickered.

“I never said anything about my past. And you know nothing of it.” Jaffar gave a swift kick to Merk’s shin, which distracted the bodyguard from the sudden attack. He didn’t’ see the next sudden attack coming, the one that separated his sword arm from his body. Jaffar had cleanly cleaved the limb from the torso, and Merk screamed from the great amount of pain. Jaffar yelled above the man’s wails, “Neo, re-attach this man’s arm back to his body.”

“I can’t do that with this guy’s psynergy-sealing thingamabob, sir.” Neo said, with a smoking cigarette still in his mouth.

“I’m taking care of that right now.” Jaffar simply said, with his headband still covering over his right eye, sporting the new look. The other three guild members had their weapons set at the fallen bodyguards as their leader planned to engage the enemy leader.

Jaffar slowly walked over towards the already defeated Yzarc, who did not believe that he had lost just yet, with only a butterfly knife in his hand. He clearly did not appreciate even his enemies under-rating him, “You think you can just come in here and defeat me!? I’m the strongest and most powerful gang leader in all of Fef!!”

“Looks we got our work cut out for us, then.” Leon cracked a smile and a laugh to go along with it, with him still having his pistol pointed at the guard that had rushed him earlier. The smile quickly faded, however. A blue aura appeared in the middle of the room. Leon thought he was seeing things, but he knew this couldn’t be a side-effect from the slight amount of alcohol he had before, when he saw people appear there. Four of them, to be exact. He didn’t care who they were, he cursed as he kicked the un-armed guard he was keeping an eye on in the groin to keep him busy, then directed his pistol’s aim towards the group, “You four!! Put your arms in the air!”

Their backs were towards everyone except Yzarc and Jaffar. Neo pointed his shotgun at the four and commanded as Leon did. “Down on the floor if you want your head to stay on your shoulders!!”

They were all wearing casual clothes, nothing that was any kind of uniform. One of them, with raggy brown hair, turned around and rose one of his hands, but that only casted psynergy. A small explosion occurred, and a wall of fire stood in the middle of the room. It separated the ex-military officers with the current couple, and the injured bodyguards from Jaffar and the mysterious group.

Neo and Leon cursed at the same time with the same life-giving verb, and shot bullets into the fire. The bullets were simply absorbed by the fire, and with the lack of reaction from the other side, they could guess that it didn’t reach the other side of the wall. Garet grabbed the injured Merk and his arm, and dragged him away from the fire, “It looks pretty strong. But it isn’t burning the room at all.”

“Must mean those guys have business with either Jaffar or that Yzarc fellow.” Neo groaned, running up to Garet, as did Leon.

“What the hell can we do now!?” Wind Sword ran up to the three, Hystrix was trailing behind him. Leon was apparently already a few steps ahead of them, he had clasped his hands and closed his eyes, then started to get into a focusing trance. His body was now flowing with psynergy ripples.

“Mind-reading, eh?” Hystrix had his garb pulled over half his face again, and looked fairly calm in this critical situation. Garet nodded, “Yeah. But we gotta get this fire-wall outta here. Any ideas?”

“None of us here are water adepts,” Neo announced.

“Yes, thank you, Captain Obvious. The ship is sinking.”

---

Jaffar had felt the presence of powerful psynergy behind him. He could tell from just his very senses that it was a teleporting spell, then the next was fairly obvious. He could feel the heat from the fire psynergy. He slowly turned his head around, and eventually his whole body.

He didn’t seem surprised as he saw Marcus and his little gang. They all were out of their uniforms, including Bosco. They seemed to have stolen some clothes from a pricey store, all of them wearing the hottest fashions in Fef. They all also had new weapons.

Bosco, the shortest one of them all, wore a white headband covering his forehead, and his ruffled hair covering over some of it. Jaffar didn’t seem to care about the rest he wore or anybody else, he really only noticed that the private had kept his military katana. Jaffar stared at it, sleeping in its braggart, “Bosco, isn’t it? I remember you. Never thought you’d end up with these…”

Bosco shifted his eyes to avoid eye contact with his former Colonel. Jaffar looked up higher to see Zephyr, Bob, and Marcus. Jaffar groaned, he gave up on completing his sentence, “…I can’t even think of the correct adjective to fit these three.”

“How about sex-icons?” Marcus winked, “When I was a little boy I did dream of being a model…”

You could tell Jaffar was vomiting deep inside from just the sigh he gave.

The former military officer had other plans, though. As did Yzarc. The claimed all-powerful gang leader had leapt from his couch with his knife in hand, and was about to give a sudden stab to Jaffar’s neck while leaping at him. Jaffar spun around and faced Yzarc. “Don’t think you can just ignore me!!”

Jaffar grabbed his wrist that held the knife, and squeezed it incredibly tight. Even though it was barley a split second, Yzarc could feel the bones in his wrist feel extreme pressure. Jaffar spun around while still holding onto Yzarc’s hand. He spun around a few more times, looking like a top. The velocity was too much for Yzarc, all on one limb. Jaffar let go of Yzarc and the gang leader was sent flying into the large painting above his couch, which had a glass frame around it.

Yzarc was smashed into the glass, breaking it. He screamed from the impact, some glass must’ve gone into his black. When he fell down onto his couch, he left his share of blood on some shards of glass at the painting. It then fell onto the ‘most powerful’ gang leader. Fortunately for him, the painting wasn’t attached that high up the wall.

Jaffar made a note to himself to take care of Yzarc in a second as he heard the defeated man groan.

“Aw, there goes all the fun with it.” Zephyr pouted, “Marcus, why didn’t you stop him?”

“Because Yzarc isn’t any fun himself. He never really picked up how to fight properly, and he doesn’t know how to use his psynergy. I’d rather have Jaffy-boy waste his energy taking him out than one of us.” Marcus gave a smile to Jaffar.

“Why are you four here.” Jaffar had turned towards them again, he didn’t want to have his guard down while in the vicinity of Marcus. He still had his katana drawn, with Merk’s blood on it still.

“Oh, is that any way to welcome me!?” Marcus giggled, “We go way back, Jaffy-boy! Can’t you at least give me one of those, ‘Hey. What have you been up to, you big gook? Whahahaha.’ Y’know?” Marcus had said the last statement in such a low and sarcastic voice it made those who could hear it a little depressed.

“Just answer the question for once.”

“Aroo? Did I come at a bad time?”

“I think Mr. Jaffar is in a bad mood to see us.” Zephyr smiled, “This isn’t going to end up like that night at The Casino.” He drew his katana, another item Jaffar guessed they had stolen.

“Put that away.” Marcus quickly ordered in a stern voice. Zephyr was surprised by this, he had rarely heard Marcus speak to anyone, even him like that. Zephyr raised an eyebrow, “What?”

“Put it away. He isn’t one of them. But I…want to give him a good reunion.” Marcus drew his own katana. He stared at Jaffar, “I’d like to see if you’ve gotten better.”

“I don’t have time for that.” Jaffar said with scowl in his tone, “Leave, Marcus. I don’t have business with you any longer.”

“You’re going to say that after I broke out just to see you?”

“Go find someone else to bother.”

“Mr. Jaffar.”

Jaffar turned his attention to the one who just called his name. It was unfamiliar, yet familiar at the same time to him. He saw a man in the group that he didn’t seem to really recognize before, just assumed it was another anti-boon member. This man looked distinguished, wearing prescription glasses, and ruffled brown hair. Jaffar could feel his intelligence in his aura, “Yes? You are?”

“Bob.”

“…what a unique name.” Jaffar sarcastically said.

“We have came here not to fight you, but…we want your help.”

“What? Just who do you think you are? Even hermits know my general relationship with Anti-Boon.”

“Well, you see…”

“I never gave you permission to ask Jaffar to help us.” Marcus broke into their conversation, “I can handle this myself.” Marcus then pointed a finger at the painting covering over Yzarc. He had his hand pointed as if it were a gun. He focused psynergy, and icicles appeared all around the fallen Yzarc, hiding under the painting frame. Marcus then flung his hand back, like he had just fired the bullet. “Bang.”

The icicles shook, then found their target and smashed into the painting, hundreds of them. Yzarc screamed, but quickly stopped after a few dozen were stabbed into him. Blood seeped through the paining, and flowed down from the leather couch down to the floor. Marcus smiled and blew his smoking index finger, “Headshot. I hope you didn’t need to kill him yourself, Jaffar?”

“As long as I take his signature Butterfly knife and a small sample of his blood, I can get his bounty.”

“Good, because I hear police sirens outside. Make sure to give me credit, Jaffy-boy! Toodle-loo~!” He waved, then teleported away. When he left, the large fire-wall disappeared along with them. Jaffar saw Neo already healing Merk, who seemed to have either been dead or unconscious.

Garet stepped up and withdrew his sword, “Sir, are you alright?”

“I’m fine.” Jaffar mumbled. “Why, Leon can’t tell you how I’m doing?”

“Nobody ever believes me.” Leon sobbed, rolling down his leather sleeves, “Marcus was right, the Fef police are right outside. We should split.”

Jaffar ran up to Yzarc’s unfortunate body, lifted the painting he slept under, and grabbed the butterfly knife. He then pulled out a small bottle and got some of the blood inside, “Affirmative. Any ideas how to escape without being detected by the police?”

“I got one.” Neo raised his shotgun, cocked it, and fired it at a wall several times. The wall fell down, revealing a man-made exit to one of the tight alleys outside. Leon sighed, “Not another one of Neo’s infamous exits.”

“You’ll have to deal with it. Group, move out.” Jaffar ordered. The three guild members ran for the exit, and took a right down the alley. Jaffar turned towards Wind Sword and Hystrix, “Good luck to you two. Watch your backs.”

“Likewise, Colonel.” Hystrix said, saluting. Wind Sword then saluted himself, as well.

“Don’t call me that.” Jaffar said, “I’m lower-ranked than you both. Not even ranked.”

“You still are in my book.” Hystrix said, “That’ll never change, sir.”

“…whatever.” Jaffar then followed his guild comrades in a run, leaving the two officers in the broken-looking room. Hystrix looked over at Wind Sword when Jaffar left, “Let’s head back to HQ and report.”

“What shall we report, sir?”

“Exactly what we saw. But we never could recognize the four men who rescued us.”

“Why keep that secret, sir?”

“I have my reasons. Don’t tell anyone that we saw Jaffar and the others on this night, Sergeant. That’s an order.”

“…Yes, sir.”
