Nah. It's ok. But what's the point? Your bitching won't get it changed. XP I personally like it. The government is doing what it takes to preserve our safety. They are sacraficing a tiny part of our right to privacy in order to ensure our right to life is safe.
What's more important, your privacy or your life? I'll take the latter plz.
There's liek a 99.9% chance that MOST individuals probably wouldn't be affected by a terrorist attack. Look at the # of people who died in 9/11 and compare that to the United States total population. Furthermore, you happen to live in an area of a state where there is literally nothing important going on.

It'd have to be one hell of a nucleur weapon to cover more than 200 square kilometers of land... o-o;
What are the chances that terrorists planning a nucleur attack on an entire STATE are going to use insecure telephone lines in the enemy country, anyway? Terrorists are clever, keep in mind, which is why they use TERROR as a weapon.

Nuclear. Radiation. Big boom. Fallout. New York and New Jersey are right next to each other.

The tapping of lines is more trying to nab the terrorist, than learning their plans.

New Jersey doesn't need to be nuked. Give or take a couple of decades and the air quality will be the worst in the world.
And did you hear the part where I live about four towns away from Lackawanna? I coulda been toast.
You forgot that these terrorists THOUGHT the phone lines are safe, Richie. Until some jerk reporter wanted to jeoperdize our national safetly for about two thousand dollars, and they all changed stations. Besides, the Lackawanna Six were trained by Al Quieda and they used insecure phone lines. What's to say the others won't?
One thing that's got me, is if all these things are so bad, why are court ordered phone taps so good? Doesn't the President have a bit more authority than a Justice of the Peace? It all comes down to whether you like Bush or not. Liberals are using liberties in no way garaunteed by our Constitution to simply try to take a bite out of his administration.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
It all comes down to whether you like OUR GOVERNMENT or not. Bush is a scapegoat for both praise and criticism. Besides, do you honestly think the president has the final say in who's phone we tap?

@Wind Sword- I'm just trying to get the lad started. Debate only becomes fun when it's on the brink of flaming.
@OmniHax- That is the most REDICULOUS thing I have ever heard. Sure, compared to the population something like a mall bombing may be small, but those people matter. The whole idea is to make sure NO ONE is harmed in our own country due to carelessness, lord knows the libs would be on that in a second not to mention that, despite your agreeing with Freedom of Speech and privacy, you obviously don't believe in a right to protection if you think that way. Life is precious. No matter how small. Not to mention that if we get hid with a nuclear weapon, not only will those cought in the blast be effected (Which if it hits NYC, don't plan on seeing me again because I'll be dead living on Long Island and all) but those who survive within hundreds of miles around will be affected with radiation. Shit, look at Japan. I am near positive their children still have an alarming mutation and SIDS rate.
@Richie- Regardless of what you believe about Bush and whatnot, Lucas is correct. Don't go jumping around the issue. Although I will admit Sentenal is a bit rough in his conservativism, he is mostly correct too. Also, I have yet to see exact proof of what freedoms and such are guarenteed like you say. Post specifics from the Constitution.

Richie, give me an example of government doing all things things your worried they might do, like tap phone conversations for minor things just to screw the little man, or moniter the internet to screw the little man there. Personal reasons, like if a politician takes a holiday on the taxpayer's money, or if the opposing party is having a phone conversation.

Uh. I'm not sure whether to be amused or frightened.
You are saying that freedom does not include freedom of privacy?
Then just tear down the falls of my bathroom, open my hardrive to the public and feature all of my taped phone conversations on the FEFusion website!

Actually, it doesn't
. There is nothing about privacy in the Constitution. Otherwise regular wire-taps wouldn't be allowed at all.

But freedom of speech institutes the fact that no power can prevent what you speak, think, or print unless it is libel (which is an entirely different topic), and don't you think invasion of privacy will limit what people want to say when they don't know who's listening?

I can't envision a situation in which that would happen. One would have to be overly paranoid. Besides, if the person has no reason to be listened in to, I think they wouldn't fear as much. it's a slim possibility at the least.
