An update on the activities of the government. This is bullshit. Just thought I should post this up before I get going, I'll be gone from Friday to Monday. Hopefully will be back on Thursday to wrap some things up quickly, but I still have school work to do right now. |

I somewhat like it. It just kind of stops the whole bully mentality of using the internet not to get caught. Way to serious? Bet your ass. A step below the Patriot Act? You bet. It seems like the government is aiming for all privacy rights, crazy republicans  |

I see nothing wrong with it. Anyone whose on the internet to be an annoyance, see: /\/00B, deserves to GTFO of the internet IMO. |

Do you realize how ridiculous it would be to attempt enforcing this bill? It's a waste of time. Second, forums should respond by banning annoyances, people should respond by blocking annoyances attempting to email them, etc - but having the federal government step in and jail people is idiotic. Do they arrest people for making publicized or anonymous annoyances otherwise, as long as they don't cross the line into vandalism? This is idiocy. There's no reason for the government to waste tax money jailing people for internet disturbances, and they should be going after child porn and sick shit like that before all this. Finally, it's a simple fundamental violation of the first amendment. You give up your rights to free speech on forums, it's true, but you give it up to the website. And the agreement is that your account will be terminated if you cross the line too far, not be put in jail. And annoyance is subjective - how exactly does the government plan on enforcing each individual case accurately? How much do you want to bet that every case of post-moderation on forums and the like is correct? Think the government will do better moderating conversation? |

Considering I use my real name, it should be no problem for me or Richie. C'mon Richie, let's go harrass some mods.

Patriot Act limits privacy and such, not what you can actually say and do. I assume you are speaking on that. This actually creates consequences for anonomously saying something, which has no seriously damaging circumstances, which would be legal by simply including your actual name. I don't make posts to be annoying, but this is still bullshit. Please explain why the government should bother with something admins sometimes younger than me can manage well. EDIT-Also, the patriot act at least arguably serves some real purpose in protecting the nation and such. Kindly explain what serious purpose this serves, someone.
Except you'll be banned if you go too far. |

Coming from a conservative Republican (me), this is stupid. I doubt it will stand, or even be enforced. It does limit freedom of speach. All in all, its not a big issue, though. No one will ever act on it, not even the government, unless in extreme circumstances, when it might actually need to be enforced. |

True enough. Still, it's a total waste of paper and time to even pass this, I believe it actually got included within a bunch of other more important laws just to make sure it'd get passed, much like a few clauses totally unrelated to freedom jumped onto the Patriot Act. |

This gets a nice big fucking "lol" from me. It could never be enforced. The government can't even enforce current laws properly, so how the fuck do they think they can enforce even more?

I find it even more humorous how if you use your real name to break the law, it's technically not legal. |

Reaver, your stupid! Serverian is right. This is goddamn bullshit. If someone wishes to remain anonymus by filing a complaint, they can get fined for "ruining" someone's name. If they put down their identity, then they can be targeted in reality. It's fucked up, and you know it. |

This is crap. As Severian previously stated, enforcing this bill would be nigh impossible. It also makes little sense, because if you don't know the harasser's name, the "harassee" would probably not be able to find where he lives/who he or she is. And if you do say your name, you could probably be fined for regular harassment... if I'm right. It's kinda like me saying, "Hi, I'm Drew, you suck!" |
