I need a pretty ownage laptop for school next year. It needs good battery life, cause I'm probably just gonna put it on standby inbetween classes. It needs to be really fast cause I need to open it up and start taking notes right away. And it needs to be generally affordable, nothing too much over $1000. Any suggestions?

Well, I'm on an Ibook G4. And it runs fine for me. ^^ I think Apple is coming out with cheaper ones now too! But... most people hate macs. ^^: |

It's not their fault! ^^; But still. Macs have alternatives! Any kind of comp is ok really.. unless it's all cheap. XD |

I'm on a Dell Inspiron 600, it's got a great display and a 1300 Mhz processor. However, the battery life totally sucks, at least is does on my battery (which may or may not be faulty, no clue). |

Yes I run on an Ibook G4 60 gig no intel chip and I am able to go through a whole 6 periods while listening to my music. I am an apple fanatic though. My dad's buisness basically relys on apples computers and almost everyone in his office are mac people. They all have ipods and one guy has a sweet rig in his apartment. I saw it one time ooo man two cinematic screens, two G5 processors, man it's sweet. Plus he has three versions of ipods. Anyway back on topic. I would say apple just cuz I have always had a mac and I like them alot. They are very reliable and they rarely get viruses. Just from those fags that run linux. I think I might switch to linux soon though. Also if your a Microsoft type of person (DIE MICROSOFT) then buy virtual PC that way your mac can run anything windows XP can. PS: cheap laptop = dell reliable laptop = apple Unreliable = dell so basically dell's suck if you want a kick ass laptop build one. they're the best. and I am talking about order them offline your own parts and put it together. If you don;t know how look up tutorials or have some local geek build it for you. |

Dell's are fine. I'd say stick with what Richie suggested. It's my favorite laptop. Mac's are fairly expensive from what I've heard, but they are very cool looking. |

Go with some third party thing nobody ever heard of. Those are usually just as good, but much cheaper. I have a Jetta laptop, and I'm not disappointed. |

You don't get the most support though, unless they're a local company. |

I could care less the the latop is a PC or a Mac. Macs look pretty good, and I don't play games on my PC so it's not like I'm missing out on too much for Mac. I'm also not sure what programs aren't compatible with Mac, but I don't use that many programs so yea... Don't think of me as a Mac fanboy, because I've never actually used one in my life *shot*. All the computers at my school are dells. :/ |

I personally am going to switch from the PC world to the Mac world once i'm in college. Macs are really nice, can run fast, and for the ppl who have them at school and say they suck... you are dang wrong. The schools rape computers, they don't know what the crap they are doing. |

Are you back? That'd rock. At any rate, Macs aren't compatible with alot of software because of Microsoft domination. If most PCs use microsoft, then companies will make more for microsoft. Simple fact. |

Question: What software isn't compatible with Mac. Everybody goes around saying that software isn't compatible but what software specifically? |
