Why do you upload your artwork here?

Are you looking to showcase your art? There are better ways to do it--for example, a simple organized website or blog, with photobucket or imageshack links if you're short on space/bandwidth. Not only does this create a more organized way to display your art, but you can also treat it as a personal "portfolio", which may come in handy in the future, as a way to market yourself.

Are you fullfilling a commission or request? There are better ways to do it--directly emailing the requested file to your customer comes to mind. Not only is this considerably faster than slogging through an algorithmically inefficient forum software, but it also lowers the chance of internet art theft, since the only person in possession of an individual piece of artwork of your creation (besides yourself), is your customer. This way, if you're just chugging along some website, and you come across some person claiming your artwork, at least you know who is the initially guilty party.

Are you looking for a critique? I'm sorry to say, but the forum offers very little in the way in constructive criticism. The minimal criteria for a well thought out and estabilished critique in most publications is at least 1-2 paragraphs of full text, maybe about 3/400 hundred words. Most of the "critiques" on this forum go very little past 4 sentences.

One possible reason I could see for posting your artwork here might be simply because you're bored. However, 20 page topics dedicated to showcasing a single person's art set leads me to believe that this is not the case.

In fact, I'm pretty sure that the main reason why people post their artwork here is mainly to fish for compliments. Which is fine and dandy and all, but really, are you that insecure in your artwork? Or your personal ability? To resort to asking for compliments from strangers...

Discuss?

*shrugs* I do for honest opinions from people who haven't seen my art before. Most of the people on my home forum have seen my art for the past year, and they pretty much tell me how I've improved.

I link back to my dA account anyway, so I'm not too afraid of art-theft. I'm not good enough to steal from, lol.

Desiring compliments doesn't make you insecure. Getting mad when someone doesn't like it or going em0 does.

Why do you care again?

*sigh* if this topic is geared toward me, then I confess. Yes, I do love comments, and yes, I do love critiques. But what's more is that I want to share my drawings with other people instead of just keeping it to myself. Not a lot of people on here will likely to go browse on someone's art websites, simply because that's not their favorite things to do. So I post my stuff here so people can see my drawings without having have to do what's said above.

No offense, but according to you, then fanart and fanfiction sections should never exist on any of the forums, yes? Since, as you point out, all possible purposes are better off to be granted by other ways.

And I do do commisions, not often, but I do. And keep in mind that on Gaia I actually charge for my drawings, and, because these people are my friends and allow me to share my drawings with them, I take that appreciation and draw them for free. I believe that's a fair trade, no?

And really, why do you care? Are you that annoyed by the fact that there are people (like me) who post art none-stop and actually reach 20 some pages?

+shrug+ Why not? Yeah, sure, call me insecure. I despise showing my artwork to strangers, let alone friends in real life. Forums are a nice medium; it's got friends I know (most with relatively good judgement), and lets me get my art out a little without having to resort to shoving it into an RL friend's face.

I draw and make stuff in PS because it's fun, not a living, and just decided to show some of my works for my own sake, I suppose.

Eyes that see into Infinity

Pendy wants to inspire all us aspiring artists so that one day we may bask in her splendor?

I should think the reason people post it here is to share with their friends, in a site where we all frequently/not-so-frequently visit. It's easier than just sending everyone every which way when there's one junction we can all contact.

Maybe. Nah. Look to Choppy and other graphics-gurus for PS, and random Dev-artists for art inspiration D: I've got a long way to go myself.
