I still haven't beaten the second one yet, in the first I at least had some goal in mind when playing through the repetative battle system that I'd get to see A-class cut-scenes, in II they even took that away from me. Is Chaos's voice actor the one from I or II? |

I know. I played through the game praying that the next door I walked through would bring some joy to the otherwise choreful game in the form of plot and character development, but alas, it was for naught oftentimes, and the "ending" made me glad that I had spent only $20 on it.The cutscenes that were about in EPII were gorgeous, as usual, but the rest of the game was kind of ugly in comparison -- I know you say that graphics don't matter, but come on; would you really play this game if it had vector graphics or three-pixel characters? The loading times at the beginning of battles were eons compared to the first game, much less the most recent one, and the battle system itself was castrated. All the deathblows you started with at the beginning, and that took a lot of the character dev mechanic out of the game, making battles more of a pointless ceremony (like voting). The score? Don't even get me started on that. Note for note, Shinji Hosoe is the most talentless synthesizer monkey composing "music" in Japan right now. Hell, even for the one with talent, Yuki Kajiura, the best I can say about her contribution to EPII is "mediocre." (Hosoe - in-game music; Kajiura - cinematic music) The voice actors in the first game were often derided, but I don't hear that much any more after XII. KOS-MOS, perhaps because of how much I loved the character and her first VA, was particularly atrocious.
He's definitely not the one from EP1. It sounds like he could be the same one from EPII, but there is a significant leap forward in the caliber of his performance. So it is not clear to me if it is the same one as in EPII, although it's likely since they do sound very similar. Such changes can come about through experience. I've frittered away 22 hours on the game in three days. I can say that III is a hugely entertaining game so far. The voice actors, pacing, and the gameplay make EPIII incredibly enjoyable, and once again I am unshamed to spend hours on end in an RPG. Since a lot of you seem clueless, I guess I'll have to avoid actually discussing anything plot-related. XD |
