Chapter 2 It was unusually sunny for the morning. Or, at least that is what Mitzu Michael thought as he exited his apartment. Perhaps it was bright out, or perhaps he was just grumpy from being up earlier than he liked. Sure, it wasn’t just because he had to start teaching Genin today - shinobi always had to be up early - but that’s what he felt like blaming it on. Stifling a yawn, he ran a hand through his shaggy, sand colored hair, draping his Jounin vest over his shoulder with his free hand. Michael gave a couple quick, stretching twists of his shoulders before twirling his vest around and sliding his arms through it. It wasn’t that he particularly disliked the idea of teaching Genin - he could have some real fun with their training - but it meant he wouldn’t likely see a mission more difficult than C-rank for quite a while. He was going to get rusty. Maybe, during his team’s off time, he could convince the Hokage to let him take on a few A or S ranked missions. Oh well. Michael glanced at the still rising sun. Time to get going. * * * * * * * The recently appointed Genin filed into Iruka’s classroom with only a light buzz of chatter. Most of the Genin and their families had celebrated late last night, so the youngsters were a little low on sleep, and so less vocal than usual. Well, most of them. Linoud and Yun were chattering about who they wanted to be paired with on their team. Leon was hitting on a particularly uninterested Desu - he tended to choose a different girl each day, always with the same result: none. Iruka ran his eyes over the class, checking to see if everyone was present. He noted that each Genin now wore his or her Leaf Forehead Protector proudly. Concluding that everyone was there, Iruka cleared his throat. “All right, students!” he called out. The class began to quiet and give him their attention, but Iruka chuckled and shook his head. “Ah, I guess I shouldn’t call you that any more. All right Shinobi of the Leaf!” This earned him grins and a few chuckles. “Today you will all be assigned to your three man teams. These teams will be very important to you from here on out. From this day forth, these teams are your family. You will train together and be assigned missions together. You will likely continue to work in these teams even once you are promoted to Chuunin. As such, I expect you all to try and get along with your teammates.” This caused a slight murmur in the class. Iruka picked a clipboard up off his desk and examined it. “Now everybody listen up,” he said. “These teams are numbered. I will read off the team and the names of those of you assigned to that team. Once I have read off all the teams, I will instruct each team on where to go to meet up with your Jounin instructor, who will be in charge of your team.” The Genin all nodded in understanding, and Iruka went on. “First off, we have Team 11. The shinobi assigned to this team will be: Kai Leon . . .” In the crowd Leon pumped his fist in the air. “Ha! I’m first!” The rest of the class rolled their eyes, many crossing their fingers in hopes of not being assigned to Team 11. “Kanai Anzen.” Again, it was Leon who made the commotion. “Wahoo! A chick!” Ciel rolled her eyes, partly at Loen and partly at the use of her real name. Fortunately, she was one of the ones who didn’t particularly dislike the loudmouth. But if he tried to kiss her again he would regret it. “And Santi Raphael.” “Arg!” said ninja groaned. “Why me? Why the jackass?” “Hey!” Leon cried out, standing up and pointing a finger at Raphael. “You wanna say something to my face?!” Raphael narrowed his eyes and smirked. “Yes. You’re an idiot.” Before Leon could retort, Iruka cut him off. “Alright, that’s enough.” Leon sat down, scowling, while Raphael crossed his arms. Iruka rolled his eyes before continuing. “Next is Team 12. For this team we have: Aburame Anji . . .” Anji just nodded, though a few of the girls in the class sighed, hoping to get put on his team. He was oddly popular with the female population. Last count, he had seven girlfriends, though they were all civilians. “Niwa Desu.” She also simply nodded. “And Strife Linoud.” “Boo-yah!” Linoud cried, making a V sign with his fingers. “We’re gonna own!” Strangely, Desu blushed slightly. Anji grinned. This was going to be fun. “And now Team 13,” Iruka continued. “Here we have: Aio Crysta . . .” The pale girl nodded slightly, frowning as normal. Linoud leaned over to Soja and whispered, “Gee. Glad I’m not on her team.” Soja simply nodded. “Hamatatsu Katori.” The long-haired girl nodded politely and smiled pleasantly at her teammate. Crysta only returned a glare, which had Katori frowning slightly. “And Kam Yun.” Yun grinned broadly at his teammates. Katori returned the smile, while Crysta again scowled. She folded her arms. “I’m on a team of morons,” she muttered. “Next we have Team 14. On this team: Davii Oto . . .” Oto only nodded. “Hakushiro Soja.” Soja also nodded. “And Hyuuga Koharu.” The green-haired Hyuuga bit his lip nervously, glancing at Oto and Soja before nodding. He seemed to have fairly skilled teammates. He hoped he wouldn’t drag them down. Iruka went on, naming teams for the rest of the members of the class. After assigning the last members to Team 20, Iruka flipped the sheet of paper on his clipboard. “Okay, people. Listen up and I will tell you where to meet your Jounin leaders. First off, Team 11 head to classroom 109. Team 12 you’ll be in room 115. Team 13, your meeting out by the swing out front. Team 14, meet on balcony B. Team 15 . . .” The Genin began tuning Iruka out once he listed their Team’s meeting spot. “Alright people, head out your meeting spots.” The Genin began to file out of the room talking excitedly. Outside they split off into their various teams and headed towards their meeting spots. * * * * * * * Ciel walked down the hall with Leon and Raphael on either side of her. The two boys occasionally glared at each other over her head when they thought the other wasn’t looking. Ciel was starting to get a bit annoyed. This was going to be difficult if her teammates couldn’t get along. After several long, tense moments of walking, the three of them arrived at room 109. Sighing, Ciel slid the door open. “Woof!” Ciel ‘Eep-ed’ and jumped back in surprise. Both Leon and Raphael’s heads snapped towards the door, where a large black wolf-like dog was blocking the way. “Woof!” This time the dog leapt up and pounced on Ciel, who again cried out as she was knocked to the ground. She was reaching for a kunai before she realized that the dog was licking her face, rather than attacking. “That’s enough, Marty. Get off her.” With a whine, the dog complied, trotting back into the classroom to stand next to a man in a gray coat, with a Jounin vest over it. He had a Leaf Forehead Protector around his neck. He turned to the three Genin. “Come on in. Grab a seat.” Leon and Raphael each offered Ciel a hand, then glared at each other for doing so. Ciel took both hands and they pulled her up to her feet, and then entered the classroom. They took seat in the front row of desks, while the Jounin leaned against the empty teacher’s desk, folding his arms. The black dog sat down on the floor at his feet. “Alright, kiddies,” the Jounin began. “I’m Inuzuka Sentenal. Call me whatever. You three are Leon, Anzen, and Raphael, right?” “Yes, Sentenal-sensei,” Ciel replied for the three of them. “Alright then,” the Jounin nodded. “As I’m sure you guessed, I’m your Jounin instructor. This is my partner, Marty.” The black dog raised it’s head and barked. “From now on, the five of us are going to be working together a lot. Let’s start by getting acquainted. Tell me a bit about yourselves.” Leon took the initiative to begin. “I’m Kai Leon!” He stated proudly. “I’m going to be the strongest ninja ever!” “Oh?” Sentenal raised an eyebrow. “Loud and cocky. Interesting. “I’m also going to be the sexiest ninja! All the women will worship me.” Sentenal raised his other eyebrow. “Okay . . .” Ciel rolled her eyes. “Fat chance . . .” Fortunately, Leon didn’t notice. “How about you? Anzen, correct?” Sentenal asked. “Actually, I prefer Ciel,” she informed him. “Noted.” “Well, I’ve been training sense I was very young. My family specializes in medical jutsu. I intend to become a Medi-nin.” Sentenal nodded. “So we already have a medic. How about you?” Raphael nodded. “I am Santi Raphael. I’m a Taijutsu specialist. I can’t use chakra at all, but I am skilled in many forms of hand-to-hand combat. Also, I hate idiots.” The last part was said glancing at Leon, who grinned and stuck out his tongue. “No chakra, eh? Maito Gai has a Genin like that. I may see if I can arrange for us to train with them a few times. That is, once you guys have gained some skill and won’t simply be a burden on his team.” Leon frowned. “Hey, we have skill! We are real ninja now.” Strangely, Raphael actually nodded in agreement. “Oh?” Sentenal asked, grinning. “We’ll see what you think after our first training session tomorrow. I want you three to be at Field 11 by sunrise. We’ll find out if you’re fit to be ninja.” “What do you mean by that?” Raphael asked, folding his arms. “We are ninja now. We graduated the academy.” “Heh. That means squat, kid,” Sentenal replied. “You see, even if you graduate, I can fail you and send you back. Tomorrow I’m going to test you and see if I think you’re worthy to be shinobi. If you fail, it’s back to the academy.” “Y-you can’t do that!” Leon cried. “Yes, I can, kid. Remember; Field 11. Sunrise. Don’t be late.” “Uh, Sentenal-sensei?” Ciel piped up. “What?” “Um, what kind of test are you giving us, exactly?” she asked. “You’ll just have to wait and see,” he replied, grinning. “Be ready for anything.” With that, he stood up and headed for the door, Marty following him. “You three have the rest of the day off. Don’t be late tomorrow.” * * * * * * * Linoud, Desu, and Anji had arrived at Room 115 to find it empty. They each took a seat in the front row. Linoud and Anji both grinned mischievously and conversed in hushed tones. Desu sat quietly and waited. After several minutes, the door to the classroom slid open and a woman walked in. Much like Desu, the woman had fairly long red hair, though Desu’s was darker. The woman has pale skin and wore a black shirt and jeans, with a Jounin vest on top. “Hello, everyone,” the woman said, closing the door and heading for the front of the room. “I am Gue Hollie, and from now on, I’m your Jounin instructor.” All three students smiled at their instructor, though for different reasons. Linoud and Anji felt that they’d hit the jackpot. Their Jounin was a babe. Desu grinned because she had an instant liking for her fellow female. Hollie sat down on the teachers desk, facing the Genin. “I already have your profiles, but why don’t you three tell me something about yourselves?” Desu’s hand went in the air and Hollie nodded at her. “I’m Niwa Desu,” she stated. “I’m the first shinobi in my family in five generations, and I want to make a name for myself.” Hollie nodded. “Very good. Next?” Linoud stood up. “I’m Strife Linoud. My family uses time-altering Ninjutsu, and I like sword fighting. I don’t use Genjutsu.” “Interesting,” the Jounin replied. “And you?” “Aburame Anji,” he stated. “My family specializes in working with insects. I have a summoning contract with dragonflies, but I can only summon tiny ones as of yet.” “Well, that’s interesting,” Hollie replied. “I have a summoning contract with Whippoorwills myself. Once we’ve improved you chakra control, we can work on your summoning.” Hollie stood up and paced the front of the room. “Our first official session is tomorrow. I want all of you to be at Training Field 12 by sunup. I’m going to see just how good you three are, and see what I have to work with here. You are all dismissed for the rest of the day.” * * * * * * * Yun, Katori, and Crysta all exited the academy building and headed for the lone tree out front with a swing hanging from it. Seeing noone else around, the three made themselves comfortable. Crysta leaned up against the tree, folding her arms and closing her eyes. Yun sat down on the ground, and Katori sat on the swing. They waited in silence for several minutes. And then for several more. Finally, Yun piped up. “So . . . where’s our teacher?” Katorie shrugged, not knowing any more than he did. Crysta grunted. “He could at least be on time.” “Actually, I was here before you three.” All three Genin’s head’s whipped up to find a man laying on a branch of the tree the swing hung from. “What the-?” Yun muttered. Crysta narrowed her eyes. “If you were here, why didn’t you say something?” The man raised an eyebrow. “If I was here, why didn’t you sense me before I spoke up?” Crysta blinked, flustered. Twisting around, the man jumped out of the tree. Now that he stood on the ground, the Genin could get a good look at him. He wore pretty standard Jounin attire, other than his metal-backed, fingerless gloves. “I’m Mitzu Michael,” he stated. “I’ll be the leader of Team 13.” The three Genin examined their Jounin for a moment, while he did the same to then. Finally, Michael spoke up. “Alright. First off, why don’t you each tell me a bit about yourself. Your profiles only included physical data. I want to know a bit about the people I’m going to be working with. For the sake of fairness, I’ll go first. I’ve been a Jounin for nine years, and I’ve spent most of it as ANBU. Now you.” He pointed to Yun. “Your family is not originally from the Fire Country, correct?” Yun noded. “Yes. I am Kam Yun. My family originally hailed from the Vegetable Country. We had no Hidden Village, but I always dreamed of becoming a ninja. I was very excited when we moved to Konoha.” Michael nodded. “Alright. You next,” he said pointing to Crysta. “Aoi Crysta,” she stated curtly. “I am a weapons expert.” Michael raised an eyebrow at this. “Oh? So you’re an expert, are you?” “I am.” The Jounin grinned. “Well, we’ll find out tomorrow.” Crysta scowled at that. “And you?” Michael asked Katori. “I’m Hamatatsu Katori,” she replied. “My family have been shinobi for generations. I like daggers.” Michael nodded. “Okay. As a word of advice, you might want to think about cutting that hair. At that length it will only get in th-“ “NO!!” Katori shouted, eyes blazing. Michael blinked and took a step back. “Uh . . . okay . . . err, forget I said anything.” Katori seemed to settle back down. “Anyways, tomorrow we’re going to decide if you three have what it takes to be Shinobi of the Leaf,” the Jounin informed them. “Uh, what do you mean, Michael-sensei?” Yun asked. “Aren’t we already Shinobi of the Leaf?” “Yes, but, if I decide you aren’t ready, I can send you back to the academy. If you fail my test tomorrow, then that’s what I’ll do.” “Are you serious?!” Katori exclaimed, jumping to her feet. “Completely,” Michael replied. “Be at Training Field 13 tomorrow at dawn. Bring anything you think you might need . . . my tests aren’t easy. We’ll find out just what you three are capable of.” * * * * * * * When Soja, Oto, and Koharu arrived at the balcony, a large, burly man in a Jounin uniform and sunglasses was waiting for them. “Hello, I am Roku Lyle,” he greeted them. “I am your Jounin instructor. Pleased to meet you. Take a seat.” The three Genin all sat down on one of the benches on the balcony. “Today we’re just having a brief meeting,” Lyle informed them. “Our first training session is tomorrow morning. You all need to be at Training Field 14 by sunrise.” The three Genin nodded in understanding. The Jounin nodded. “Good. Now, everyone to tell a little about yourselves.” Oto stood first. “My name is Davii Oto. I like archery.” Lyle nodded. Soja didn’t stand he merely stated, “Hakushiro Soja. I come from a nomadic clan. We have a high affinity for fire.” “You have a bloodline limit correct?” Lyle asked. “Ember Stepping?” Soja simply nodded and Lyle turned to the final Genin. “Uh, I’m Hyuuga Koharu. I, um, have the Byakugan . . . but it’s, ah, kind of weak.” Lyle nodded. “We’ll work on it,” he said. “Now, that’s it for today. Be at the training field on time.” ------------------------------------------ Long one, eh? The teams were asigned randomly, so don't gripe. Hopefully, it will be easier to learn the characters now that they are grouped into teams. I'm going to edit the character profiles into the first post. |

Because neither China nor Japan exist in the Naruto world. I wanted a country that didn't have a Hidden Village. I didn't make that one up. It was that or the Tea Country. |

So far so good. I just suggest you not try and bite off more than you can chew. You could potientally have 4 different stories going on at once till later in the chuunin exams. You should try and just focus on one team at a time. And I get Leon, Pendant, and Santi, eh? This should be fun
