Final Fantasy always feels too easy. Unless you like the story, the game is crap. The good stories put the game on the good list and the bad stories put the game on the bad list. I'll say this, as cliche as FF7's story can be seen today, it was very refreshing at its time. Time has changed, standards rise, but that game was THE rpg of its time.

FF7 borrowed way too many things from FF6. It was "new" and "refreshing" to the American market, sure.

5 was playable because of the Job System (which I didn't like, btw, but others did). The story was crap, it was too hard for how interesting it was (as in, boring game, hard gamplay), and the characters sucked.

qft

As far as difficulty is concerned, the Final Fantasy games have never struck me as being hard. If you want an unneedingly challenging RPG, play Breath of Fire.

Generally agree though I found FFT and FFII harder than BoF.

X was extremely good. You just have to pretend that they didn't make a sequel (which I am proud to say I haven't touched) and the storyline becomes amazing. Also, how can you say you don't like a game because you don't like the main character? Tidus was a flawed character...Just as almost all characters are. But, what? He didn't have the "right" flaws? His flaws were that he complains a bit more than actually acting and doing something about shit. Would you rather his flaws be "too badass to play by society's rules" because THAT wouldn't be cliche.

I'd rather have a main character that I didn't hate. I was happy when he "died" at the end.

Regardless of whether or not you like the character doesn't take away from how good the character is. He was a well-built character, a little annoying, but from a storyline perspective, he did his job. I was happy when he died at the end too, but probably for a different reason than you. Then I was mad when they made a sequel and fucked the entire thing up. I hate it when stories cheat out a sacrifice. If you're a martyr, you're a fucking martyr, no coming back. God damn it, FUCKSHITBALLS.

VIII was also pretty good, if you completely remove the storyline. The gameplay was great though and I enjoyed my time actually playing the game, but found myself vomitting towards the end due to extremely retarded plot-ness.

You realize that for an RPG, the storyline is one of the biggest elements in it. And you know that this game punishes leveling up, and you can beat it faster than almost any other RPG out there?

I agree, but I still feel like it's one of the most fun. I think FFVIII would be so top tier if it had a good story. The Junctioning system was the fucking balls.

As far as FFVII is concerned, I'm still pretty sure that the reason everyone hates it is simply because everyone else loves it. There's rarely any middle ground. Most people either hate it or love it, but it's not really deserving of either.

Why would you even care to listen to his story, if you hate the guy's guts? You could have the most epic quest ever, and if the main character whines and bitchs about every last thing, is that not something bad to the overall game? I've said the story itself was good, and I like FF10 overall, I just hated some characters, espeically Titus. You want a character you like. Either that you can relate to him in one way or another, or that you can idolize in one way or another. Titus just made you hate him, and made you want him to get put in his place.

FF8 seems to be very two sided. Either you loved it, or hated it. The Junctioning system made the game very, very easy. The way enemies leveled up with you made the game punish you for working hard in it. Those two aspects made me not enjoy the gameplay. Not to mention at the end of the game, you basically lived off of Limit Breaks.

Hate seems pretty strong for someone who's simply a little annoying. Hell, half the annoying-ness was his high-pitched voice that made it seem like, no matter what he said, he was complaining.

Still, if a story was judged based on the narrator's personality, we'd have a lot of "bad" stories out there that are actually very, very good.

As far as the story being good but the main character not...Who cares? You agree that the story is good but why do you take issue with the game as a whole because you don't like the narrator as a person?

Chocobos...if ff didn't have those damn oversized chickens, I don't think I would be playing ff's anymore. My all-time favorite was 9 and I would spam the chocobo mob summon (whatever it was called) and occasionally the fat chocobo summon just because I think it's funny.

He just seemed like a whining crybaby, as his Dad said often. I wouldn't mind him as a secondary character, but the main?

I didn't really have a problem with how the story was narriated, just the main character. I realize they are supposed to be the same, but still. That doesn't make the character any better.

I'm not one of the people trying to crusify FF10, I'm just saying it's not great. FF10 is better than alot of people give it credit for.

I really didn't like FFX...Tidus and Yuna really killed it for me...they were so annoying. Tidus was a whiny cry-baby with stupid pants, and Yuna was too much of a softie and said "Okay" funny.

I hated the cut scenes, which appeared every like...five minutes and most of them were incredibly pointless and boring IMO.

I also really really REALLY didn't like the Over Drives. Especially Fury. That was so bad i nearly cried of frustration at how impossible it was to get over 8 without killing your arm/wrist/hand. Bushido was the only one that didn't bother me all too much.

The sphere grid...ugh...i dunno what to think about that anymore...

All Final Fantasy games after the merge with Enix to me were pretty medicore to bad. That would be what, FF XI, FFX-2, FFTA(?)...some others...

I've played FFX, FFVIII, FF II, and some of FFI. FFI was ok for it's time, I guess :\

FFX I liked, plot was to me pretty original, cut-scenes were well done, and I didn't find Tidus to be that annoying. I liked the battle system, and it was a much easier and simpler game than FF VIII, which was ridiculously hard because I was young and had no idea what I was doing. All I did was summon summon summon and didn't level up because I only fought bosses. Also never upgraded my equipment. It was too confusing for me.

Though I feel the opposite of Sentenal, I really liked the story, until they did the time warp thing. Then it was retarted. They could've ended it better.

I'd like to play VII but I haven't been able to get my hands on it.

FFX didn't have a good story, nor did it have good characters. I just liked the whole new attempt at making something new out of the series, though it wasn't so great lol.

FFVIII sucked. I hated it so much. The Junctioning System was retarded, and I could imagine people not understanding it at first. Also, it was impossible to buy new weapons because unlike games that actually allow you to GET the items with relative ease (see CC, VP2), it was really hard to get the minerals and shit. Plus, the story sucked. I liked some of the characters though.

FFX's Sphere Grid system was more confusing. And you can get Lion Heart on the first disc, so I don't see much of a problem with it. Only real complaint is that the trick to get to level 99 is so damn retarded.

I played FFX before VIII, and I understood the Sphere System first, and I was probably like 12 at the time. Maybe I'm just retarted.

Either way, Square needs to make a simple way of strengthening characters & weapons.
