So, I'm gonna be moving today, away from my parents, and into my dorm. My roommate is a friend I've had since sixth grade. I'm not quite sure how to look at it. On the one hand, I don't have to deal with my family for a year (Next year, I'll be coming BACK to this city and going to college here, though I still won't live with them) and on the other hand, I don't really feel like I'll be gaining all too much independence. Throughout Senior year, I've had pretty much as much independence as I could have wanted. I could stay out as late as I wanted, come home at 3 in the morning, not come home at all and just call later on saying that I was "at a friend's." I had a car and a job, I could pretty much do whatever I wanted since my parents weren't all gay. And now the time for college has come. My car is dead and I quit my job a while ago (meaning money is tight, especially since it hasn't come in from Financial Aid yet) so in a sense, I feel less independent than I did second semester senior year. For an idea of how free I was then, I once brought home a bunch of friends at like midnight (including girls) and my mom was home, much to my surprise. After some talking, I convinced her to go to her boyfriend's house and let me and my friend's stay at ours. We got trashed. A friend of mine lives in an off campus apartment very close to the school and he moved in a few days ago. He said that, every night so far, someone has knocked on the door and randomly invited him and his roommates to a party. Obviously, it'll be a lot easier to go to these parties, but that also comes at a time when I'll be needing to study. A lot. I'll also have a lot less extra money from my parents, no car, probably no cable for a while. As I look on it, this extra freedom isn't too much better than what I have now. If it's better at all. I don't pay for shit as of right now. There's my rant of the year. |

Well, this way you're actually getting an education that MEANS something, unlike pretty much all education until college (excluding AP, etc.) My brother just left for his dorm literally 10 minutes ago, but my parents are far more strict than yours were, so he's a hell of a lot happier. |

Hmm... good luck with that. For the most part, I actually found my college years more enjoyable than my HS days... if only because I could actually pick which classes I was going to attend. Though it does seem you're getting the short end of the stick from that. Either way, much luck. You'll need it. Personally, the only real pain of moving out is finding where to store all the stuff you hauled with you. Well that and waiting for the utility hookups. |
| "It is known that there is an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no difference, so the average population of all the planets in the universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the product of a deranged imagination." - Douglas Adams | |

You're missing the point, Yzarc. Since you're going to college now, you don't have to pull genius/gifted bitches anymore. Now you can go for all kinds of chicks because they don't know you yet.

I thought by financial aid you meant "grants," not "student loans." I hope you're becoming a doctor, because loans will rape you. |

I'm not taking much money in loans. Tuition is only like 4k a semester and next year it'll go up to 10k. One of my best friends is paying 36 thousand a year. I did get a lot of grant money, but I'm gonna have to take out some money in loans. Mainly for housing, which is overpriced like a bitch. 559 dollars a month for a tiny, shared, one room dorm that's barely furnished at all. |

Welcome to life. I am entering my freshmen year at an intense art school. 200 pages 4 drawings per page before we start our art 101 class. I decided to choose an in state school so I could specifically save money by living at home with my folks. I am paying 16k a year for my tuition, not fun. |
