I probably made one of these topics sometime ago, but I don't remember. MMA stands for mixed martial arts, its pretty much my favorite thing these days. Does anyone else pay attention to it? My favorite fighters are: 1) Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic. This guy is a monster, I watch his old fights in Pride and he destroyed opponents, I'd hate to get hit with that left head kick. 2) Anderson "The Spider" Silva. He just won the title of "Worlds Most Dangerous Man" (Ken Shamrock might be pissed) on Spikes Guy's Choice Awards. He deserves it to, the pound for pound best fighter in the world. 3) BJ "The Prodigy" Penn. This guy is amazing, he has one of the best standups of any lightweight, as well as his heavy hands, he has great takedowns and takedown defense, and hes hands down the best Jujitsu practitioner in MMA today. 4) Randy "The Natural" Couture. This guy is still one of the best heavyweights in the world and hes 45. He has seen any action lately because of legal disputes with Zuffa but I can't wait to see him fight Fedor (still just a dream but it may happen). Nobody works a clinch like this guy. 5) Matt Hughes. Well hes definitely past his prime and getting beat lately by the rising stars of late. He'll never be able to beat GSP again, however theres no denying what hes done for the sport. And if you look back through history, he has some of the most devastating slams ever in MMA. 6) "Dangerous" Dan Henderson. I'll always have respect for this guy. Hes been in a bit of a slump lately, loosing back to back to Rampage and Anderson Silva. However, loosing to the number one light heavy weight and number one middle weight is hardly a blemish on his record. All of his fights are exciting whether they are standing or on the ground. Can't wait to see him fight again. 7) George "Rush" St. Pierre (GSP). The number one welterweight in the world, and many speculate that he is the only person who could beat Anderson Silva at middle weight. This guy can strike, wrestle, and his BJJ is pretty damn good too. I see him cleaning out the weight class if he beats Fitch. 8) Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. This guy is a really nice and funny guy, however I can't think of any other person I'd like to fight less than Rampage. This guy slams so hard, sports science calculated that one of his overhead slams equaled the collision of three car crashes. Who wants that. 9) Antonio "Minotauro" Rodrigo Nogueira. The current UFC heavyweight champion and the first Pride heavyweight champion. This guy always showcases world class Jujitsu in all of his fights. I dare you to take this guy to the ground, hes a wizard. Plus, he has one of the best chins in MMA, as well as one of the biggest hearts. This guy has never been finished in a fight. 10) Nick Diaz. So he got fucked over for smoking pot, hes still goin strong though. Hes a great fighter, he has one of the most unorthodox striking I've ever seen, but its proven effective. He also has some of the slickest jujitsu in the welterweight division. Honorable mentions go to Takanori Gomi, Hayato Sakurai, Kazushi Sakuraba, Fedor Emelianenko, Renato Sobral, Wanderlei Silva, Mauricio Rua, Lyoto Machida, Thiago Silva, Goran Reljic, and Urijah Faber. I'm super excited for July 19th. Affliction: Banned aires, which has probably the biggest names of any fight card ever (for those that don't know Fedor vs. Tim Sylvia, Babalu vs. Mike Whitehead, Josh Barnett vs. Pedro Rizzo, Tim Rothwell vs. Andre Arlovski as well as a bunch of others). Also, that night, the UFC aires a free show on spike featuring Anderson Silva vs. James Irvin, Frank Edgar vs. Hermes Franca, and Brandon Vera fights some guy too. Looks to be good. Anyway, anyone else a fan? |

Two of my past room mates used to watch a lot of this, and I always liked to root for St.Pierre. There was someone else, I forget who, that likes to wear fangs during the match. I like him too despite how campy he can be sometimes. |

I'm a big GSP fan, along with Anderson Silva who is the most dominant man in all of MMA. (I think) |

Your talkin about Andre Arlovski, former UFC heavyweight champion. Hes fighting at Affliction on July 19th. Some cool things from MMA news of late. The prospect of Rich Franklin possibly moving back up to light heavyweight is amazing. I think he'd actually walk throught a lot of the top lhws in the division. Also, talk of Wanderlei Silva fighting Thiago Silva is fuckin great, that would be a war (actually thought I don't see Thiago loosing that one either which would be bad for Wanderlei). |

Silva is a beast, I never expected him to loose, but I didn't think his first punch would floor Irvin. I agree Vera dissapointed me, honest he hasn't been the same since he came back and fought Sylvia. As far as I care, he'll never make it as a light heavyweight in the UFC, the competition is just to deep. Don't care about Jesse Taylor, never thought he was that interesting to watch, sorta just a lot of lay and pray on the show. CB beat him with one of the sickest subs I've seen in an MMA fight though. Cain is lookin good. The other fight that night I was exicted about was Franky Edgar, hes still lookin dominant which is good. Can't wait to see more from this kid. As for Affliction, all of my picks won. Haven't gotten to see anything on the undercard cept Lil Nog, but he looked great as always. Dream 5 was sick. Huge upset (at least in mind) for Joachim Hansen. I had Aoki winnin that shit but I guess he got caught. Can't wait to see Alavarez/Hansen 2 though. I always wanna see Alavarez/Aoki. Kinda annoyed me that they pulled the Nick Diaz vs. Hayato Sakurai from this card and also pulled Cro Cop out. There are so many amazing new fighters bursting onto the sceen, MMA is growing and I love it. |
