While tournament players choose to take Brawl extremely seriously, most people still consider it a video game. I say that if you and your friends have fun without grabbing, there's nothing wrong with doing it since you seem to be a casual player like most of us.

I bet professional Football and Baseball Players would agree that their sports are games as well. Just because you take a game seriously to win, doesn't mean you don't think of it as a game.

My point is that games are supposed to be pastimes. Tournament players -- just like professional athletes -- choose to take games to another level, which is good as it shows how much they like the game, and how good players they can be. Even so, saying that a 'no grabs rule' is bad in a casual gaming environment is like ruling high school football games with NFL rules. Sounds ridiculous to me.

The reason that a "no grabs" rule is stupid is because grabbing is an essential part of the game. It would be as if a "casual" game of football where nobody ever passed, because that was considered a part of their rules. Grabbing exists in Brawl, and it's a key game element.

That's like the rule Linoud and Soja mentioned. Not passing is fine during a practice/informal scrimmage, as it forces you to rely on your running game more. Your running game will eventually get better from that way of practice or w/e. When playing a real game (or attending a tournament), however, you need to use everything you have at your disposal; be it passes or grabs, respectively. In that sense, I agree with your point.

Practices and casual/not serious games =/= serious matches and tournaments. The problem here isn't playing casual games without grabs, but that it has become a bad habit that needs to be worked on, IMO.

...but then if you choose to take your game to a competitive level you phail because you never grab when you need to :NomNomNom:

There's really no point to keep debating this. Bottom line - Casual or Not you need to fucking grab when you need to

brawl got me into using the c stick, now when I go back to melee it feels completely different and I can't use it, it's a brawl habit. In brawl I can just flick it, melee I need to press fully.

LMAO! I hate the C-stick in Brawl because it randomly decides its not going to work for periods of time.

Whilst I like brawl in general, it has one major thing that annoys me: inability to copy save data.

Yeah, you cannot copy it, as you will lose your data when your Wii breaks. >_<

This is pretty true but, I just enjoy it for what it is.

Tiara, You can't copy data at all for Brawl to use on a friends wii with an SD card. That means you have to unlock everything on each Wii console you play it on, and no transfer of characters, yknow? :NomNomNom:

But all you guys are only half right D:

Sometimes you need to kill without the scope. Sometimes you need to kill with it. That is because you are approached by two different situations, one where the enemy is close, and one where he is farther.

In Brawl, however, if you need to grab, fucking grab. There is no substitute for grabbing. If someone gets close to DDD and he puts up his shield, then they attack into it, the best choice there is to fuckin grab so he can CG all day.

There is almost no circumstance when not grabbing when you can grab is a good option. Like i said earlier, eliminating grabbing from your playstyle in Brawl is like saying you don't melee in Halo, or don't use Nades. Practicing with and without scope gives you a skill. Practicing without grabbing however, cuts the idea out of your mind when you need to thus having the opposite effect of a skill.

^^^ This is the real flaw with the comparison, here...Lucas, this is what you were saying, correct? I think PD put it better, honestly, but I believe this was the point, fellas.

In actuality, I'd much rather become a pro at an FPS or some other fighting game than Smash brothers. :NomNomNom:

Honestly, unless you are going pro in like Counter Strike or something, being pro in Smash means more money. Or if you really want make lots of money, move to Korea and try to be a Pro Starcraft player :NomNomNom:
