I want to play Metal Gear Solid on my ps2, but I don't have a ps1 memory card. Originally, I was just going to play the game on emulator, since I'm not buying a memory card for one game. However, I was recently told that I could probably beat the whole game without turning the ps2 off. This leads me to my question: Metal Gear Solid is a 2 disc game. When I get to the part where I have to swap discs, is a save file required for the disc swap to work? Or can I just put the second disc in and keep playing. Ideally, I'll just leave my ps2 on for like 2 days and just beat the game without saving at all. Also, I didn't post this is the other Metal Gear Solid topic(s) because I'm trying to avoid any potential spoilers. |

I have a feeling a save file is needed, but I'm not completely sure. The only way to find out would be to put in the second disk, and see if it puts you at the part where you should be. I don't think that'll happen though. The PS2 memory card doesn't work with PS1 games? I've never had this problem because the PS3 has internal memory cards for both of them. |

I'll try that tomorrow, but I don't think it will work like that. I would think that the game simply stores a temporary save on the RAM while the discs are being swapped. Of course, this is just pure speculation, but technically that's how it would work if a memory card wasn't needed. |

MGS was the only one that I have ever played fully. Grey Fox is my fav character and that your battle with him absolutely badass as they fight with bone and sinew..erm fists. Due to the influence of SSBB is what got me to try out 2. Many say that 4 is the best, but I don't have a PS3 and I sure as hell ain't going to throw away 300 dollars to be able to play it. Some folks actually do buy the console for that game alone, but that won't convince me to buy it. |

If you have a gamecube, buy the remake twin snakes. Unless you really have to play the original for whatever reason. |

He's asking about whether you need a memory card to play the 2nd disc. And you fight Liquid using CQC, not Gray Fox. You need a memory card, I'm almost 100% sure. Isn't that how the Final Fantasy games worked? |

Well, not really. iirc most games with disk changes ask if you WANT to save, but then you can say no and just put in the next disk. |

Well If that's true I'd do that. Don't emulate it, otherwise the fight with Psycho Mantis would be...impossible? Actually when you fight him don't you have to switch your memory card ports also?

lulz I know about Psycho Mantis just because the fight was so famous. I'm not buying the Twin Snakes because I already bought the original MGS, it was part of the MGS collection. |

I know, which is why I was really considering not doing it. It's either this or go through an emulator, and I figured that I would much rather use the ps2 controller than the keyboard. |

Yeah, I tried beating Psycho Mantis without doing what you're supposed to do, and it's impossible, so I'm not sure how you'd go about beating him with an emulated game. |

Oh, my bad. You should have bought Twin Snakes though Metal Gear isn't hard enough to have to start over the entire game so you should be good. |
