Valkyrie Profile Summary Okay, I admit. Star Ocean 3 (post game) is the reason what convinced me to try this game out. I'll give out an entire summary to this game, because this is one of the best games that I have ever played, and I will do just that. Story The intro is about a little girl named Platina. She lives in a poor family, as a matter of fact the entire town was in poverty. As Platina comes back as she doesn't want to be scolded by mother again. As she comes back she sees some MIB agents and that her mother wouldn't tell her who they were, or why that they have visited her house. Meanwhile during the evening, a little boy named Lucian warns Platina (his childhood friend) that those black men came over to his house and to give out the shocking news, ytes, his little sister got sold into the slave market. And that he tells her that is what her mother is planning on doing to her daughter (to sell her into the slave market). After finding out about this; Platina plans on running away and that she says "That she will be by his side always." Anyways, they go to a garden called "The weeping lily meadow" not knowing that the garden is filled with poisonous pollen. Lucian warns he of this that if they do not get out of the garden, the poison in the Meadow will kill them. Platina, filled with despair, that her parents have never treated her with any kindness, and that her memories are filled with too much pain and misery for her to wanting to live any longer. Anyways, Platina sniffs the pollen in the meadow and that she killed herself. ;_; Lucian screams "Platina" throughout the meadow and the into ends. Go ahead and cry, alot. This is definitely one of the saddest scenes aside from Yumei's. If you don't cry at both of these scenes for the first time, you are somehow a heartless individual. Anyways, began the game after this intro. Watch this intro, because you will not get to see it appear on the title screen after Chapter 4. This game is also about that Lenneth commands characters that have already died. Pretty cool huh? Platina and Yumei deaths are absolutely the saddest. Cry alot, I mean it.Graphics Well, the battle system is a little clunky and slower than Star Ocean 2's. But do not underestimate the battle system. It is about on par with Star Ocean 2's though. Gameplay Okay, for starters you go on a journey to recover Odin's artifacts that Aesir has stolen. You begin in Vahalla and that Freya will show Lenneth around for a bit before that she leaves back to Asgard. After Freya leaves, the tuteral of the game is over, and that now you can begin your journey. This is a game that you do not have unlimited time and that this game is done by Periods. 24 in the Easy and Normal modes, and 28 in the Hard Mode. Overall whatever difficulty setting that you choose is up to you. I wouldn't recommend the Easy setting, because you won't be able to get the A ending, and that you also won't be able to obtain some of the best equipment in the main game either. Getting the A ending is difficult, but it will be rewarding in the end, trust me. As for the B ending, it is lame. Not only is the last dungeon lame, but so is the last boss battle and the ending itself, is well the standard ending. The A ending is most recommended to have in our first playthrough. here are the things that you need to do in order to obtain the best ending. ^_~
C Ending Let your evaluation drop to 0 by running up periods purposly. Only do this if only if you care to see it. I'll say this, that this is the bad ending in other words. Also, I've forgot to mention about running up periods by visiting towns, as well as the dungeons. Visiting a town uses up one period of time and that visiting a dungeon uses up two periods of time. It is most recommended to get this ending first before getting the B one, because it is kind of lame. To get anywhere in this game, you will have to send a character to Vahalla in every chapter, and that the character must have the Hero value that Freya demands you to give to her. This is probably important, as your evaluation rating may go down if you don't, especially if you are keeping some of Odin's treasure (recommended). Here are the treasures that you will want to keep for sure and NOT return theem to Odin under any circumstances. -Phoenix Feather (Revives character automatically 10% chance of breaking) -Emerald Necklace (Gives 100 CP upon level up) (Incredibly useful in the beginning of the game, and that if you are planning on sending someone to Valhalla.) -Bark Of The Dryad (Can trasmute into Dimesion Slip) -Holy Grail (Give a holy tear drop upon every Chapter slighly raising a character's stats permenetly.) (You also can trasmute it into a Bracelet Of Zoe.) -Golden Fowl (Can give about 4 Golden Eggs per chapter.) Note: You can trasmute a Golden Egg into a Bracelet Of Zoe. -Insense Burner Of Dalis -Mirage Robe (Gives 90% bonus to poison spells and +100 Avoid) -Mirror of Pleiades (50% chance reflect) Note: You can also trasmute it into a Insense Burner Of Dalis. -Fairy Bottle (You can trasmute it into an Orilicon) -Bracelet Of Zoe (Raises a character's stats by +300 Max HP) Note: These are absolutely manditory to have. You need alot of HP toward the end. -Coin Of Fortune (50% extra EXP) (Very useful in the Hard Mode since EXP is halved.) -Manual Of Resserection (Trasmute into Orihlicon) -Eternal Lamp (Immunity to Freeze on all characters. FOREVER!) -Infernas (This can kill the boss Fenrir in a single hit.) -Holy Water Of Mithera (100,000 damage to the undead) (Use it on an undead boss) -Tear Of the Cosmos (Trasmute into a Holy Water Of Mithera) -Elven Bow (One of Lenneth's good weapons.) (Possibly the best weapon in the main game in the easy and normal difficulty settings.) -Ambrosia (Raises a character's Max HP by +6,000HP permenently.) -Bracelet Of Basilisk (Possible protection aagainst Sotne type attacks by 50%, not sure though.) -Mask Of The Dead King (Reduces damage from Holy type Attacks by 50%) Holy type attacks -Mystic Cross -Celestial Star -Hourglass Of The Gods (Resets back time by 5 periods only once.) -Dragoon Faith (Best helmet that you can get in the main game and that it is only availible in the Hard Mode.) -Shadard (Great weapon for Angrim) -Unicorn's Horn (Best staff that you can get outside of the Seraphic Gate.) -Armor Of Aleph (Best Armor ouside of the Seraphic Gate.) -Berserker Bow (Best Bow outside of the Seraphic Gate.) By the way, most weapons that you find in the dungeons will have a certain % chance at breaking. If they break, they are gone FOREVER. You can obtain unbreakable weapons by buying them with Materialize Points. The ones that you want to save are the Dragon Slayer, you will need it like heck in Lezards Tower, trust me. It instantly kills Dragons in a single blow. If it breaks, reset the game and relaod your saved file from your World map save, then your dungeon save, to manipulate the RNG, so that you can keep your anti killer weapons from breaking. The weapons that you should try to save whenever it breaks are... -Dragon Slayer (Kills dragons instantly) -Beast Slayer (Kills Chimera's instantly) -Daemon Slayer (Kills Demons instantly) -Raven Slayer (Kills Bird enemies instantly) You will want to try to keep them from breaking down, because they are incredibly rare to obtain. They havee a 5% chance at breaking. Keep that in mind. You get them in some of the dungeons in the game, and that you also get a Dragon Slayer in Angrim's hometown early in the game. Also, this game doesn't have MP to cast spells, depending on your mages CT, you can get them to cast a spell. They must also learn new spells from manuals that you get by defeating enemies and in treasure chests. They can only learn new spells from these manuals, as they will not learn new spells on their own. Some players like to keep most if not all of the artifacts. Of course this is most certainly not recommended, as this will put your evaluation at risk. You want to know what the Evalutaion is, very well I'll tell you. Evaluation is the mood of your worth. If it gets too low, at 0, you will the C ending, in other words the bad ending and that your journey will end automatically. Out of every treasure that you send to Odin will up your evaluation by 1 point. Any artifacts that you keep will lower your evaluation down by 5 points. Of all the treasures that I have listed, these are the only treasures that you want to keep, as they will be helpful throughout the entire game and also throughout the Seraphic Gate (The post game dungeon). Do not worry about your evaluation dropping from keeping some treasure. Just be sure to send someone to Vahalla (That Freya demands you to) in every chapter to neglect the negative effects of this. If you don't your evaluation will go even lower. If your evaluation is below 40 points, this puts you in danger of getting the C ending, as if you disappoint Freya of your worth, she will lower your evaluation by around 25-30 points. If she says that to keep at it of how you are doing or that she says "It is Magnificent" you are in the clear and that your evaluation will go up about 25-30 points. Just keep it at 40 and abouve, and you will ensure to get the A or the B endings. Anyways, I've already played this game two times now and have obtained both the A and B endings. Starting the post game dungeon now..I am REALLY looking forward into recruiting Lezard,Brahm, and Freya. Before they will join you, you will have to battle them first of course, as I am looking forward to it. I am also looking forward into fighting Gabriel Celeste and the Isaia Queen. The Celestes both Gabriel and Isaia are also post game bosses in Star Ocean 2 and Star Ocean 3. Either way I've had fun with the Main quest, as I have already got most of Loki's and Surt's voice samples as well as some of the characters and the other bosses of the game. The reason why that you want to collect voice samples is to unlock the character artwork. To get the voice sample, the character must say the quote during the battle. Out of all of the difficulty settings, the hard Mode unfortunately will give out the most gaming experience, as ther are Flame Jewels in the dungeons that are only availible in the hard mode and that are needed to get some of the best equipment in the post game. (Seraphic Gate) You also got to do RNG manipulation to be able to get all of the treasures in the Cave Of Oblivion. These are optional places to level up your characters and to get some of the good equipment. Here is what you do in RNG manipulation to get all of these treasures guaranteed!
Treaures that you would want from the Cave Of Oblivion -Mighty Check (Prevention against all status alighnments) -Golden Egg (Can trasmute into a Bracelet Of Zoe. One of the best damned accessories in the game.) -Ring Of Learning (30% extra EXP after every battle) About the Cave Of Oblivion, be wary as it is filled often with really strong monsters that can vary from Chpter 1 to 8. O_o Run away if your close to dying, because they will wipe out parties in their early low levels. Once that the Cave is completed or getting defeated in combat, it disappears from the map, for good! If you get defeated in it, and that it is very likely in the early chapters, reload your file, because the cave disappers either if you get defeated, or that you complete it. They appear once in every chapter, up to eight times. About the EXP Orb, it is just like the Bonus EXP from Fire Emblems 9 and 10. You transfer EXP to a character to level them up. Without the Max Level up trick, you will ofter get crappy level ups. Level ups that are worser than in actual combat. The Great Magic spells are done by equipping certain wands and equipping a certain Magic spell in the skills menu and that it can only be done during a PWS combo "Purify Weird Soul". This happens when all 4 of the character combos until the CT bar reaches 100. It has to be at 100 in order to do one of a characters specials, as well as a Great Spell. Yes, this game also has a little feature where you can make a few of your own weapons by materialising some of them and the skills system. Like in the Star Ocean series. Here are the great Magic Spells...
Challenge It is fair, like in most RPG's, and that you have to often use Crsytals as steps and crsytal powder and the like. Also the dungeons that are availible only in the hard mode have difficult puzzles to solve and that you might need a walkthrough to solve some of them. I'll leave it simply as that. ^__^ Music It is marvelous. That is all that I have to say on this one. The game already comes with the entire soundtracks, even before beginning the game. But be careful with this game when you buy it, or if you already own it, as it is extremely sensitive to scratches. A single scratch may make it unplayable. You likely won't find this game uner 100 dollars either, as only 70,000 copies were sold in America. Basically the PSX version is expensive due to supply and demand. But get the PSX version, it is far superior to the PSP version. But even so, this game is most certainly a MUST PLAY! I have already done two main quest playthrough non stop. After doing one chapter in the first playthrough, I simply could not put the game down. Yes, this game is THAT addictive. Go right ahead and buy this game, it is worth every penny. |

Why can't you ever just link us to Gamefaqs when you post? Even though it's almost the same thing as your tl;dr posts, it's WAY better. |

I hope to god you are joking. ____________________________________ Ayanami, it's called GameFaqs. We can read it. Besides, you didn't give us a mild spoiler, you told us the majority of the fucking plot. Topics like this are pointless, sorry. Btw:
do you know what the word graphics fucking means? Battle system would fall under gameplay; also, don't contradict yourself by saying "Well, the battle system is a little clunky and slower than Star Ocean 2's," and then saying "It is about on par with Star Ocean 2's though." I mean, what? That's basically tellings us "the battle system is worse but just as good LOL" No, it's not. It's either worse, or it isn't. Fucking pick one. |

I should.
Well the action is tied I should say, but the game does have better spell animations than Star Ocean 2. But Star Ocean 2 has slighty faster action than this game. Overall, I would tie them. They both have better experiences than each other. ----- Well, just finished the Seraphic Gate. Already started VP2. So far, I'm mildly disappointed in the game. It only has more story plot than the first. But the battle system is nothing like from the first game. I'm getting the feeling that the first game will be better. I knew that Square would fuck this up. Should've let Tri Ace do it alone. They would have done better. |

@Greth - Well, to be fair, VP2 probably has the best graphics on PS2. @Ayanami - Hey you fucking retard, TRI-ACE DID MAKE VP2!!!!! Just because Square has licensed Enix doesn't mean all Enix-related games are now made by Square. Do you think Star Ocean 3 is made by Square? In my opinion, VP2's battle system blows VP1's slow and sometimes boring battle system out the window. Some battles in VP2 actually require you to employ some strategic employments (specifically in Seraphic Gate). |

In terms of any PS2 game graphics, Shadow of the Colossus is almost certainly the best but VP2 is still pretty good, especially for an RPG. I find the eyes on the female 3d models in VP2 to be freakish, though.

Well, I've read a review about it on GameFAQS. Star Ocean 3, Yes I thought that Square added some development, like cretain weapons being named after their games as well as some of the enemies, like Chimeras for example. I thought that it was a nice experience as it had a nice ring to it. =) Here are some flaws that I have pointed out in this review on GameFAQS. Thought it is just all matter of personnel opinion, sadly, I beleve it. Article
The experience is a mess. For starters Freya now cares about the citezens, which in VP1 she didn't really care much about them. The review told me this that her personality is messed up. All of this is proving the the experience of this game is to be played only once.
These statments alone is what worries me to this game. Secondly in my experience, the battle system is a challenge. It isn't just about mashing buttons to get a battle done like in VP1. You actually would have to move your characters to get to the enemies. This game is all about graphics and story, but the gameplay experience is nothing like the first. Which that is what I am mildly disappointed in. I'll give this game a try because of the story. I've also just noticed a secret to this game that you can have VP1's soundtracks played in this game by pressing L1 in a +New Game before entering a battle. The review also said that Square only paid to Tri-Ace to make them the game. In other words they were only publishers for this game.
Personnel opinion, yes. But I believe it. Yes, I have read a review to this game, as I was get the feeling that this game would suck ass. Oh well, I'll just have to experience the game myself, and see what I completely think of it. -----
Well, I'll try to play through the game anyway if many of you say that it is good.

Yeah, SoC has good graphics for sure, but it runs at like 15 FPS, which annoys the hell out of me. Yeah, in-battle, VP2 doesn't look nearly as good as it does off-battle.
What does naming some weapons have to do with ACTUAL DEVELOPMENT? Star Ocean 3 was developed by tri-Ace and published by Square-Enix. Prove me wrong with an actual source if you're going to try to prove me wrong.
I don't even remember that to be honest. In any case, I never felt Freya acted OMG SO OUT OF CHARACTER!! and I've played VP1 like 4 times, and VP2 twice. Also, the guy making that review sounds like a faggot. Just like every other reviewer.
ROFLMAO ROFLMAO!!! SINCE THE BATTLE SYSTEM IS CHALLENGING THE GAME SUCKS NOW! Ayanami it seems like your opinions are so fucking biased on REVIEWS with people with OPINIONS. It's no wonder you think normally-accepted shitty games are AMAZING and normally-accepted good games are HORRIBLE just because one person has an OPINION.
WHAT THE FUCK HOW IS THAT DEROGATORY IF ANY GAME WAS HARDER THAN THE PREDECESSOR I WOULD THINK THAT WAS A GOOD THING UNLESS IT WAS IN THE CASE THAT THE SYSTEM WAS SO BAD THAT IT WAS HARD THEN IT WOULD BE AN IMPROVEMENT (kind of like Xenosaga 2 to Xenosaga 3) BUT IN THIS CASE I HARDLY SEE HOW A 3-D ENVIRONMENT MAKES THE BATTLE SYSTEM THAT MUCH HARDER THAT IT TAKES AWAY FROM A 3-D GAME AND EXPERIENCE Edit:
