Doesn't Chinese have a lot of really specific inflections, though? I mean, I already trip over myself a lot in spoken English. I dunno if I'd be able to learn it too well.

On the other hand, I've got the best grade in my German class by far... <_<
Chinese is about 1000x harder than German.

And that's just basic Chinese. With German you have to remember grammar rules, strong/weak verbs and gender. Saying something slightly wrong in chinese can completely change the meaning of the word.

That's just when it's english people saying it. Think what it would be like trying to understand what a rapid native speaker was saying. :Psyduck:

I only did a one-hour lesson in Chinese, but I learned enough to know that I wouldn't be able to learn that unless I studied it for years and years. I am also the best in my German class. By a fair amount. >_>;

I have an Aussie friend who knows Chinese.

Like... at an almost native level. >_> He actually studied abroad for a year, and he's pretty honest about it--it's a lot of brutal hard work. He learned to write and read it, too.

Rofl, wut? Was he picking on you?

I have two teachers who do that, but not to me. There's a really dumb kid in Chemistry and a really awkward creepy stalker boy in Photography, and the respective teachers always poke fun at them whenever they get the chance. :NomNomNom:

Why not take something useful like Chinese? Though, Chinese is one of the harder languages, definitely.

Oh god, I'm starting to sound like my mom.
Nope, Japanese is significantly more useful to me. I watch a lot of anime, listen to Japanese music almost exclusively, plan on going to Japan at some point, I'd like to be able to play Japanese exclusive video games, and a lot of my friends took the same Japanese courses.

I was assigning a double to an int in one of my programs, causing number truncation which bugged out my program. It's a silly mistake, so he called me a ding head.

In terms of the current population ratio of China vs...THE WORLD, learning Chinese would be pretty good. Through personal experience, however, Chinese is nothing short of a bitch to learn. Japanese is significantly easier, since you have much less script to learn with the three styles than a Chinese person has to learn in just one. Also, the Japanese don't mess around with fancy tones that I can never EVER get right.

Reading/writing in Japanese is extremely gay. What are you talking about? You have to know hiragana, katakana, and almost all of the same kanji that Chinese uses.

The grammar structure and other shit is pretty simple and easy, though.

Hiragana and Katakana are easy D: I admit Kanji is gay, but we actually need to learn far less than the Chinese do in Japanese. In Japanese I think the standard's around 2000. For Chinese you need to know at least 5000 different characters as a standard. AT LEAST. Reading and writing in Japanese is far better than in Chinese.

I know that Chinese is overall harder, but Japanese also isn't a joke.

Kanji is EXTREMELY gay. Only part of tests that I ever get anything wrong.

I'll agree to that at least, since it's also the only thing I ever got wrong in Jap tests.

I picked up the kanji fairly quickly, actually. I just never learned how to put a coherent sentence together. I could translate from Japanese pretty well, but I sounded like Babelfish when I translated into it. :NomNomNom:
