Prince Hassan’s study was like a small library. The walls were lined with bookshelves full of old tomes and texts. The subjects of the documents varied. Law, science, magic, religion, novels, and so forth. A few windows shed some light into the room, though today that light was limited due to the gloom outside from the overcast skies. There was a fireplace with a small fire burning inside. There were several comfortable chairs littered around the fire and a desk not too far off. Prince Hassan sat at his desk quietly, looking over some old records while he waited for Vaull and Nienna to show up. Several other texts rested on the desk, most related to heron laguz and their powers. The prince was excited. He actually had something important to do. He was most excited about helping Nienna. Helping Vaull was important to him also, but he already learned of several problems with his issue. Though he'd wait until he was here to discuss it. Edited by Blank, Nov 29 2008, 10:35 PM.

Nienna was pretty excited too. There was probably a lot she didn't know about herself, her race, and her galdyr that she didn't know about. And before Hassan, probably wouldn't since Herons were extremely rare, and she could very possibly never see another Heron again. It was a little depressing, but there was no point in dwelling on it, so she decided to press on. She took a deep breath to try to relax herself and knocked on the door thrice. "Hassan? It's me, Nienna. Are you in there?" she asked. |

Hasan nearly fell out of his chair from his jump of surprise. He quickly dragged himself upright and walked over to the door in an attempt to look not flustered. The prince opened the door and offered her a smile. "Hello Nienna. I'm so glad to see you." He opened the door and let her in. "I hope you find the rooms in the palace comfortable?" He asked meekly as he would close the door behind her "Eh before we get started with anything, I need to know something important." He looked embaressed to ask her and perhaps ashamed. "... Can you read and write?" It wasn't totally uncommon for people to lack the knowledge to read and write, especially laguz in Alexiera. |

((I actually hadn't thought of that. XD)) "Hello, Prince." she smiled at him, then sweatdropped, "Oh, I'm sorry, did I startle you?" "Oh, yes, It feels so....luxuriant!" Nienna frowned, "Oh...no. I can only read the ancient language of the Herons. I learned most the beorc words from my parents vocally. We didn't have any books....You may have to teach me...is that okay?" she realized it might be kinda hard to read it all by himself. |

"No, no, no! Not at all." He stammered. "I was just uh, dozing off... You woke me up that's all." He offered her a warm smile. "I'm glad you like it. Sometimes I'm rather embaressed at how well I live, though I suppose it would be more embaressing if the royalty lived like paupers." His cheeks darkened a bit as he shook his head. "Oh, no, that's fine. I'd be more than happy to teach you. I'd be honored to have such a talented and beautiful lady as my student." To be honest, she was his first and only so far. |

"Oh, I'm so sorry. I can come back some other time if you want...." She smiled at him, "You should be proud and happy with what you have, Prince. I'm sure anyone would would love to live palace. You ought to cherish it." "Well, I don't know about talented and beautiful, but I'll do my best!" |

"Hmm... You're probably right. I just feel spoiled sometimes." He explained as he picked out a few thin books and parchment for them. "Well, I believe you are, but if you think otherwise, at the very least you have determination. A hard worker can often best a genius." He would sit down next to her chair and open a book. It looked to have a list of characters of the beorc alphabet and of other languages. “Are you familiar with our alphabet?” |

Nienna leaned over towards him to get a better look in the book. "....No, not really. But I already know the sounds, if you just tell me what those sounds are it shouldn't be too hard to learn." |

"If only it were that easy. Letters can correspond to several different sounds in our language. For example, the letter A is used in the word 'able' but in the word 'apple' it doesn't make the A sound. Sometimes letters make no sound at all in a word or sound no different. For example, a sea, like a body of water, is spelt 'S E A' while the word see is spelt 'S E E'." He explained, his cheeks grew a little dark as he leaned close to her to point to the different letters. "Our language sometimes doesn't sound like it's spelled." Over the next few hours Hasan taught her the alphabet and some basic works and how to read some simple sentences. He also taught her what his and her name were spelt. As the day wore on and the gloomy sky started to grow dark outside. He covered a yawn and sat back in his chair. "Let’s take a break for now, alright?" He slowly pushed out his chair and stood up to stretch. He glanced over to her and noticed her Edited by Blank, Dec 1 2008, 08:14 PM.

"Okay." replied Nienna. "Oh, my parents gave it to me when I was a but a little birdie. They said it brought good luck. Why do you ask?" she asked, tilting her head to the side a little. |

He blushed a bit. Little birdie. That would be cute to see. "No particular reason I guess. I just thought I saw it before. I guess not. I've never visited the heron laguz tribe." He looked down and pushed his index fingers together, ashamed. "The records tell me the village was burnt down around the time the war was going on." "By the way, where are you from?" "Oh, okay....I'm from Alexiera. My parents and I lived a forest near the border. That's about all I know of it geography-wise....we didn't have maps...." |

"... Oh." He looked rather sad. "I'm sorry to hear that. I was looking up records for Vaull, it turns out a village of heron laguz was razed amongst several other laguz villages by the nearby city. It looks like there was some sort of murder and the laguz in the area were blamed for it." "But... You and your family got away alright, yes?" He looked hopeful, though since Nienna didn't have family with her at that moment, he wasn't holding his breath. |

"Yes....for awhile. Someone found out we were living there recently and they....forced us out. That was only a few weeks ago. My father stayed there to buy Mother and I time. She got caught when she tried to gather supplies for us at a town we came to a couple days after. Then I ran here to Kelvendar....oh I'm sorry. I'm rambling aren't I?" she blushed. |

Hasan looked surprised. "No, this is important. Do you know when and where they were captured? It can even be relative to Liberas. Anything would be helpful." He sat down and pulled out a piece of paper. Hasan doubted he has much authority, but he could at least try to find her parents. "Any idea what the people that captured your mother and father looked like?" |
