OH MY GOD LATIN IS SO POINTLESS IT'S A DEAD LANGUAGE AT LEAST I WIN A LOT OF MONEY PLAYING SMASH YOU SHOULD DO REAL STUFF THAT MATTERS Oh, wait, it's completely fucking rude and dickish even by my standards to constantly bash someone's interests and passions and stuff they're really good at for no fucking reason especially when said passions and interests benefit that person tremendously both socially and monetarilly, so please disregard what I just said. Actually, don't disregard it. Simply realize how rude and stupid you have appeared to me all these years when you constantly bashed my playing Smash competitively. I hope you can finally understand how much it irks me and that you will stop pointlessly insulting me over it. Congratulations. I sincerely mean that despite my rant above because I don't have to share your interests in order to see that your accomplishment is meaningful to you. Edited by Inui, Dec 16 2008, 02:41 AM.

Wow, you're a dick. Latin awards are something I can actually put on my resume and get an easy as fuck pass into uVa. Then I can go on to a six-figure-salary medical career. Tell me how Smash will help you do anything in the long run. Tell me that any potential employer won't see it as a waste of time and a sign of mismanaged priorities. |

lol @ ignoring the positive part at the end, immediately trying to defend yourself from "attacks" that were negated by that end part, and not understanding what I meant Employers don't care if I play Smash if I have a college degree and certifications and do my job, lol. There are actual reasons that I am paid a lot more than any other worker at the UPS Store I work for occassionally. It's because I am the shit. Btw, if I were an employer, I'd be impressed by someone having the ability to manage and run huge tournaments very efficiently and organize a community to play a game, as well as being a top player in that game since that shows intelligence and the ability to dedicate yourself to something. Uh, yeah, that's about the same as telling a potential employer that you hold comic book conventions in your basement. They're not going to give any weight to that. You would be biased towards a Smasher employee because only Smashers care about that. More importantly, you're taking a Nintendo party fighter way too seriously. I mean, sure, good for you and all, but non-Smashers can only fake interest in that stuff for a little while. You know I'm all spent out on that. Edited by Asvel, Dec 16 2008, 05:08 PM.

Uh... Nah, lol. Being able to effeciently manage a large scale tournament is pretty impressive. It shows organization and leadership skills. You do realize that there are huge pro-gaming corporations, right? This stuff matters. Just because you hate Smash or w/e doesn't mean it doesn't matter to people. I don't recall you ever "faking interest" or giving a damn about anything Smash related or even congratulating me on amazing performances and winning lots of money. Like I said, I will never bash your interests or accomplishments because I don't have to share your interests to see that stuff like Latin and art are passions of yours that you care about. I'm only asking for that same respect. |

Alright, I do admit winning a Smash tournament isn't the highest achievement from my point of view and several other people share my opinion. But if Lucas wants to brag about it here, he's welcome to. That's why the thread is here. It may not be the most practical skill, but it's something to be proud of for Lucas. Can't say I agree with Lucas in several of the points but w/e. I don't view it as something to be very proud about imo, but he's still entitled to brag about it here. Let’s agree to disagree and let the debate go. My major achievement today was not crying in front of all my peers after screwing up my program for the xth time in the last 24 hours.

Uh... That's because the amount of time, experience, intelligence, and dedication it takes to be a top player is something nobody here but Kashif can understand. Of course none of you think it's a big deal because the amount of skill and intelligence needed to win big tournaments isn't something you can comprehend due to never experiencing it. Being a top player in a community of thousands upon thousands of players and making a lot of money off of the game is pretty fucking awesome, imo.
lmao, winning $10,000 isn't something worth bragging about? Just the $3,000 for 3rd at the MLG Nationals was a lot. I don't consider myself someone that isn't often rude and a dick to people, but like...I'm not fucking stupid enough to declare OBVIOUSLY huge amazing accomplishments as meaningless and not worth being proud of just because I suck massively at it or can't comprehend the accomplishment at all. I couldn't care less about Latin or art or whatever the fuck else you people do, but I'm not going to shit on your accomplishments just because I don't have the same interests. I can see the work it takes to be good at stuff and being the best or nearly the best at something is really fucking impressive, especially when thousands/millions (like in Smash) of other people are inferior to you despite wanting the same status. To say that we who don't participate in tournaments can't comprehend the amount of time, skill, etc. it takes to reach that level would be accurate. However, that doesn't mean we can't sympathize and imagine it. No one said you couldn't brag about Smash accomplishments, Lucas. Now, will you stop the aggression or will I? |

Soren, saying "winning tournaments isn't anything to be proud of" is OBVIOUSLY going to provoke me because you're DIRECTLY SHITTING ON MY GREATEST PASSION. What the hell else did you expect? You also VERY OBVIOUSLY didn't understand what I have been saying, and I've been making VERY GOOD points. Just because you can't understand it or fathom it and just because you don't share the interest doesn't mean it's a meaningless accomplishment at all. I don't disrespect any of your accomplishments, but you're shitting on mine. I'm sorry, but being better than hundreds of thousands of other players all desiring the same top player status is pretty fucking awesome. lol @ your threat, Ivan. I don't really think I'm being agressive. I'm just being profane and loud. Just so you know, Asvel has indeed directly said "bragging about Smash is banned in this thread" or something else along those lines, and it's VERY OBVIOUS that most of you don't have a clue what it takes to obtain and maintain top player status in a game played by so many people. You are much smarter than most people, so you probably get it, but it's very obvious that nobody else here does. "I couldn't care less about Latin or art or whatever the fuck else you people do, but I'm not going to shit on your accomplishments just because I don't have the same interests. I can see the work it takes to be good at stuff and being the best or nearly the best at something is really fucking impressive, especially when thousands/millions (like in Smash) of other people are inferior to you despite wanting the same status." The anti-Smash sentiment at this place is disgusting. So what? You all suck at it, I'm way better, I win hundreds of dollars consistently, and I have an elitist view of it, but that doesn't mean you have to let that make you hate a game. Unless your opinions of things are controlled by other people and you're lame enough to hate something simply because others like it (Asvel, lol). lol wow I'm asking for the same respect I give other people in this topic, not shitting on their accomplishments based on <insert stupid reason>, and I can't get it. I have no respect here anymore despite being at least 50% of the reason it still exists. Edited by Inui, Dec 17 2008, 01:34 AM.

I think you missed the part where this is ~2 years of pent up frustration being unleashed. Edit: I'm actually not that mad. It's just really annoying that people aren't going "Wow, Inui, such amazing points! You're right, it's totally not cool to shit on someone's accomplishments just because you don't share their interests! It's obviously impressive to be the best/nearly the best at something!" Okay. I'm pruning the topic. I'm pretty sure what Asvel said she meant in jest, or that's the way I took it. That's the way I would have taken it. I was going to make a tl;dr post about how I think you're upset because we don't take Smash tourneys and high placement as gravely as you do, and about how assuming that we can't imagine the kind of effort it takes to make it that far is actually rather insulting to everyone, but I decided I'm just going to lay down the law. |

Wow, it went over YOUR head as well? That's a shame, lol. My main point has been to not completely shit on someone's accomplishments for stupid reasons. You all must have missed that part. You don't have to take Smash as seriously as I do to understand that being better than hundreds of thousands of other players desiring that same top player status, as well as winning lots of money, is amazing. And yes, a lot of you directly shit on Smash accomplishments and have for years. Saying it doesn't happen is false. Especially Asvel. For no good reasons. I make more money off of Smash than you do off of your jobs, lol. For instance, the debt you owe me, I win with a single decent sized tournament in a day, and it's because of intelligence and dedication. Edited by Inui, Dec 17 2008, 02:00 AM.
