aI found Infernapes typing to be the most annoying to me cus everyone and there mom uses staraptor and does that suicide kamakaze move that it has. I think Brave Bird or something, plus Infernape's defense is crap IRC. I almost always end up facing either an annoying ass staraptor or an even more annoying starmie. That's just my battles though. I admit I use Starmie alot but cmon, nothing in my arsenal can beat Staraptor in speed. I already fucked up with Weavile and Crobat cus I still don't know how EV and IVs work @____@ I learn through example and people keep linking me to stupid FAQs sites to read chapter upon chapters of confusing crap, lol. |

Jolteon = gg Staraptor Seriously, Jolteon is one of the most blisteringly fast pokemon even to date. That coupled with its high Sp. Atk and Staraptor's mediocre Sp. Def. makes it easy, plus there's no need to worry about the fighting weakness that one would get with an anti-air rock type (Star' has Close Combat more often than not), and it has resistance to flying type attacks like all Electric types do. You just have to get a TM of an actual electric type move that doesn't suck. Like, say, Thunderbolt. Have fun getting the coins needed for that one though. Edited by Soja, Apr 17 2009, 04:47 AM.

Wait, are we debating in-game value or pvp value? I'm looking at in-game value where its unlikely your opponent will have a stock of pokemon dedicated to one of your pokemon and it's single obscure weakness. I can't say I have much pvp experience but in-game I much prefer the pokemon with a single weakness, solid defensive stats and recoverability to that (of either) of the other two which possess more and less ability to restore HP without items. I don't know how leech seed works but it seems broken as fuck against pokemon with higher HP. I suppose in pvp Torterra could be one-shot by a random Ice Beam before it gets anything off (assuming your opponent has ice moves ready on the first turn, and your first choice was Torterra) but that's not to say the other two don't have type weaknesses of their own to exploit. In fact they possess far more. Really, if I cared enough about pvp I'd go look up some obscure pokemon ~ Kovu |

Torterra is blegh in both. In-game, Steel Type is likely to help FAR more then anything Torterra's typing gives it defensively. No chance of poison/toxic=fuck yeah And Ground-type moves are rare enough that his weakness doesnt matter as much as in the metagame. Infernape, yeah his typing is ASS defensively... but he also has speed, Attack, and nice offensive STAB, so especially in-game he shouldnt take enough hits to care that much. None of the starters are good against EVERYTHING, but in-game is actually where Torterra is more ass then the other two, IMO. Psychic spam stopped working the moment G/S/C came out >_> Dark and Steel buttrape Psychics... hard. |

Ground type moves rare in metagame? Pfft, Earthquake is one of the best and most common physical moves in the game. Empoleon has a great defensive typing, but you can't shrug off beastly moves like Earthquake and Close Combat, which wreck his shit. Also, Greth, I think in Platinum, Jolteon can learn Discharge, which is a slightly weaker Thunderbolt with a 30% chance to paralyze. Thunderbolt is still better, but it may be easier to level to 78 than win a bunch of slots for Thunderbolt TM. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I actually find the slots a really easy way to get a bunch of coins in D/P, with all the crazy mini games that guarantee you win pretty much. I think tortera is the most usefull out of the three in in-game because of its possible attacks. It's also pretty good in HP and Defense, not so bad in Special Defense if I remember correctly and the only people that give you problems are your rival and the elite four, where tortera shines. The Ground type Elite four person is easily beaten my tortera and her Quagsire is f-ing annoying. |

The Game Corner in D/P is ez street compared to the first three games, where getting more than 50 coins in a win was cause for celebration. |

Dude that's so true. There are three Water/Ground types in the Elite 4. Quagsire, Whiscash and Gastrodon, all of whom are OHKO'd by grass, but nothing else is even super effective, meaning you're looking at 3-4 turns of battle with each of those, taking into account Sitrus berries and full restores. |

Yah. I had to bring Torty into that. I was trying to solo with my electric cat (Luxray) but failed miserably. Major hit to my ego there. Pokemon that are completely immune to Indignation. ![]() A couple of Leaf Storms (or whatever that attack was called) as well as a few Earthquakes helped me out of that pinch~ D/P selection fails. ~ Kovu |

Well, the three starters in this game are all incredibly good. None of them are owned by Stealth Rock, and they have good stat boosting options. I think Infernape overall is the best by a small margin, simply because it presents the most prominent offensive threat. In D/P/Pt, the metagame is very oriented towards offense. Infernape easily gets the best type coverage of the three in terms of offense (not to mention it has the highest base speed of the three) which puts it at an automatic advantage before stat boosting comes into play. Also...Nasty Plot boosted Fire Blast is simply ridiculous. 1HKOs almost everything if you have a Life Orb and Stealth Rock up. Infernape also has the advantage of being able to take on Skarmory, Blissey, and Swampert very easily and knock them out in one hit before they can react. My Modest Infernape has a set like this: Nasty Plot Vacuum Wave Grass Knot Fire Blast Edited by A2ZOMG, Jun 3 2009, 04:48 PM.

Platinum has a lot of small improvements that piss me off because they're things that should have been done to Diamond and Pearl but probably held over for the now-requisite 'third edition' in every series of Pokemon games. IMO, it's not worth the upgrade. But that depends on what you're into. Some Pokemon have different movesets from Diamond and Pearl, not to mention the move tutors in Platinum that aren't present in D&P. |

Pokemon Platinum is definitely worth buying in my opinion. It's a completely different game from Diamond/Pearl as far as I'm concerned. There is a lot of juicy storyline development and improvement to gyms. The Battle Frontier is VASTLY improved. And then there are a bunch of convenient things that make it overall faster-paced. Also, you know those much-needed fourth generation evolutions? Finally you have easy access to the Pokemon that evolve into them. For the longest time I've wanted an Electivire...but couldn't get one since you need to have one of those gba games in your DS. Not a problem anymore. =) So far the only thing I can think of that is lame about Platinum is the weather glitch...and the extreme difficulty in getting good natures (AND IVs) for the first gen legendary birds.
