Personal Information Character Name: Varen Alias / Nickname: Emissary Mine (Only called that by the Spirits he serves) Race: Shade Class: Mage Gender: Male Alignment: Chaotic good True Age: 65 Apparent Age: 75 Height: Five feet tall Weight: 100 pounds 7 ounces Hair Color/Style: Gray and shaggy. Eye Color: Eyes were burned out years ago. The stones that replaced his eyes are gold Complexion: Pale Marks/Scars/Tattoos: Wears a bandana around his eye sockets. One can see the faint green light behind it. He has a pair of green pieces of quartz in his eyes that have replaced his eyes. Birthplace: Narzgar Physical Appearance: Extremely thin to the point of malnutrition. Yet he is still in fit shape. He wears a black bandana over his eyes. Beneath the bandana is a pair of bright gold pieces of quartz. The Spirits burned his eyes out and replaced them with the quartz. It enables him to see the spectrums of energy that surround living and unliving things. Personality: Varen has a complex personality. He has a general distrust of humans, yet seems to fully accept the laguz. He distrusts humans for their embrace of technology and the arcane. He accepts the laguz for their natural culture. He despises other mages and any who defile nature. He hates other mages because of their approach to magic and because their approach offends his spiritual senses. But to those who earn his trust, they find him a patient and kind man. He’s someone who makes a powerful ally, and a terrible opponent. Biography: Not much is really known about Varen before his transformation. But from what people can gather from his current personality, he must have been a very unstable force. What is known is what ritual transformed Varen into a Shade. Varen was performing a ritual of summoning, the aim of which was to summon a creature powerful enough to allow him to seize kingship of his country. But unfortunately, his summoning went awry and something unexpected happened… The Spirits of the four principle elements struck Varen down for his arrogance, and they changed him into a Shade. Unlike other Shades, who were thought to be possessed by “evil spirits” Varen was simply possessed by the Elements. They were neither good, nor bad; they were a cosmic balancing force... And they meant for Varen to be the mortal maintainer of that balance. The Spirits burned out his eyes and replaced them with two gems of their own fashion. They allowed Varen to see the very energy of things. It taught him his first lesson for his role… Everything that is, is alive. But while he did indeed have all the powers related to Shades, he did notice one thing… He could only use his magic if he first asked the Spirits. And even when he asked, they could refuse him. In time he learned, “I am granted these things because I ask, with respect in my heart, and I am willing to offer something in return. I request only the barest needs for myself. At times, I ask great things, but only when the cause is good and just and wholesome. In return, I thank these powers, knowing they are borrowed only, never bought.” Now Varen wanders the world and continues to maintain the balance.

It said their personality upon changing was different, so I decided to take it to the other extreme. An extremely evil man becomes good. |

Well, I kind of imagined them all to be baby eaters or something, but... Go for it. |
