Character Name: Iago Shantar
Race: Human
Class: Shadowmancer
Gender: Male
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
True Age: 27
Apparent Age: Late 20’s-Early 30’s
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 199 lbs
Hair Color/Style: Pale brown, slightly curly, and just short enough to stay out of his eyes.
Eye Color: Brown.
Complexion: Dark . . . ish.
Marks/Scars/Tattoos: A small scar on his right cheek. Otherwise, nothing that you get to see.
Birthplace: Agustria

Physical Appearance: Iago is tall, solidly built and overall a very imposing figure. This is only emphasised by the heavy, ornate teal armour that he wears. He always seems to be scowling.

Personality: He hates you. Sarcastic, arrogant and strict are some of the nicer ways to describe him. Iago is not good at being nice, which suits him fine, because he would much rather that everybody stayed away from him. Well away. He has no problems with insulting people, and he is brutally honest even when his opinions aren’t welcome. If you insult him, though, you’d better watch out, because he holds a grudge and if you hurt his pride, he WILL hurt you. The only reason he’s not evil is because he doesn’t go out of his way to make people miserable.

He’s only in the army because his upbringing has left him with few other options, and he resents every minute of it. Iago does have a few good points, though. He’s not the sort of man to go back on his word, so if you manage to extract some sort of promise from him, he’ll do his best to fulfil it. Similarly, he makes it a point to pay back debts. Despite whatever he might say, he does have a healthy respect for fellow soldiers and looks after those under his command. He also has a soft spot for children, though if anyone ever discovered this he might actually murder them.

Otherwise, he’s really not that nice a guy. You have been warned.

Biography: Iago’s father is a lower-middle-class man in the employment of a highly prosperous merchant, and not a pleasant guy. He saw his two children as ways to move himself up Agustria’s social ladder. From a young age, Iago was prepared for entry into the army to win recognition and status there, whilst his younger sister Isobel was preened to be wedded off to somebody with money. The son of his father’s employer took a fancy to her and they married when she was 16... so Isobel has more power than her father does. And refuses to share it with him. Iago tries not to be too obviously gleeful about this. He isn’t very close to his sister - they had very separate upbringings - but any victory over his father is to be celebrated, no matter whose victory it is. He is also somewhat protective of her, since she is blood and about the only ally he has against his father.

Being prepared for the army from a young age means Iago has advanced steadily in rank, winning praise and recognition for his skills as a leader as well as a soldier - people hate him, but they respect him too. Unfortunately for one person, his upbringing also means that he hates his father. A lot. If he ever had a chance to kill him, then he would take it, without hesitation, whilst grinning from ear to ear and singing happily. As it is, he’s happy to make the man’s life as difficult and unpleasant as possible.

And yes... he is a descendant of Nimix and Sargon, through their surviving daughter. Nope, he doesn’t have any special status because of this - not that his father hasn’t tried, of course. He is aware of it, and about the only thing he has to say about it is that he doesn’t want to go the same way as Wendel. Considering he inherited Nimix’s flair for dark magic, this might just be a good thing.
