I thought Brawl was better than Melee overall. Brawl's only worse if you only compare pro gameplay specs, but it beats Melee in every other way.

Melee still best be high up there. Even when not comparing competitive/pro gameplay specs, it's the superior game. Melee has a much larger legacy and has created much more impact than Brawl has in the world of gaming by far. Even if you say Brawl is better, what are you basing it off of? Graphics? New Characters? Stages? Music? Even if you are, you still have to admit that for its time Melee destroyed Brawl in all these catagories. Also wtf is tripping and footstooling? lmao |

Sure, but compared to some of the other games on this list? Do you honestly think they are better than something like the very first Call of Duty game, for example? |

#46: Portal Release Date: October 9, 2007 (The Orange Box), April 9, 2008 (Original), October 22, 2008 (Still Alive) Platforms: Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC "It's hard to find something not to like about Portal. Everything, from the gameplay to the presentation, are top-notch from beginning to end and makes it more than a worthy addition to the level of quality presented by the other titles in the Orange Box." ~GamerNode #45: Project Gotham Racing 2 ![]() Release Date: November 17, 2003 Platform: Xbox Developer: Bizarre Creations "PGR2 is the best racer out for the Xbox. The game delivers a great driving experience online and offline. The revamped Kudos and car class system is great, you will have tones to do and everything will be ranked worldwide, if you have Xbox Live. This game without live is just as good, but to get the full experience this game is worth investment into the online gaming world. I am impressed in the variety and quality of development into this game. Pick this baby up, don’t wait any longer." ~Extreme Gamer #44: Rayman 2: The Great Escape ![]() Release Date: February 29, 2000 Platforms: Dreamcast, Nintendo 64, Playstation, Playstation 2 Developer: Ubisoft "Rayman 2 is the best game on the Dreamcast so far, and could arguably be the greatest platform game ever, and that includes the Shiguru Miyomoto's legendary Mario 64. Anyone who is foolish enough to look past this title is doing themselves a disservice. The 3 years it has taken UbiSoft to develop the title was well worth it, and Rayman 2 deserves every award and praise that it receives. It's a classic." ~FUTURE GAMEZ #43: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots Release Date: June 12, 2008 Platforms: Playstation 3 Developer: Kojima Productions "Metal Gear Solid 4 will undoubtedly be the subject of debate for many years to come. The unconventional approach to delivering a triple-A game by centering the single-player game around more non-interactive elements than interactive is sure to ruffle a few feathers; the viability of different play styles might lead people to believe it's a second-rate third-person shooter; and the emphasis on nanomachines and PMCs, without being preachy, might be too topical for some. Regardless, right now it's one of the best-looking, engaging, and emotionally driven experiences, with the gameplay to match, on the PS3 or any console." ~GamerNode #42: Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Release Date: November 17, 2004 (Snake Eater), March 14, 2006 (Subsistence) Platform: Playsatation 2 Developer: Kojima Productions "With a beautiful graphical style and dozens upon dozens of things to try out in this highly detailed game playing it once just isn't enough. There are still issues with the camera system that can become frustrating, but with the general level of excellence everywhere else and considering the limitations of the PS2 this is still an amazing game. This is a true return to form and a hell of a way for the series to wrap up several plot lines in an exciting way. They don't get much better than this." ~IGN #41: Gears Of War 2 ![]() Release Date: November 7, 2008 Platform: Xbox 360 Developer: Epic Games "This game lives up to expectations and fixes the previous game’s weaknesses. You're left ecstatic after finishing the campaign/co-op, and now left with a polished multiplayer. The only complaint is the dramatic adjustment of gameplay style, but that can be overlooked. Gears of War 2 is easily the best game of 2008 for the Xbox 360, so there is no way you can not pick this title up. This is definitely what we've all been waiting for." ~Xbox Evolved #40: Street Fighter IV ![]() Release Date: February 17, 2009 (360, PS3), July 7, 2009 (PC) Platforms: Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC Developer: Capcom "The fighting game has evolved considerably since Street Fighter II exploded the genre into superstardom in the early ‘90s. Street Fighter IV proves that Capcom still has what it takes to dominate the genre almost two decades later. The fourth installment may, at long last, have trumped the second. Anyone with even a passing interest in one-on-one brawling owes it to him or herself to get into Street Fighter IV. Even if you haven’t touched a fighting game since the 16-bit era, one match of Capcom’s new masterpiece will remind you why you spent so many hours at those now long-shuttered arcades." ~X-Play #39: Burnout 3: Takedown ![]() Release Date: September 7, 2004 Platforms: Playstation 2, Xbox Developer: Criterion Games "All I can say is that Burnout 3 is damn near flawless in almost every way shape and form. Brilliant visuals, ear pleasing audio, highly addictive game play, and enough modes and tracks to keep you busy for months on end. If you do not own Burnout 3 by now, you are letting one of the best, if not the best, arcade racer pass you buy." ~Gaming Age #38: Halo 3 Release Date: September 25, 2007 Platform: Xbox 360 Developer: Bungie "Halo 3 is the perfect way to end a series and possibly the most near game to perfection. The graphics and sound are fantastic, the story and gameplay are brilliant and the multiplayer aspects are just amazing. The additon of Forge and co-op gives the game a much longer life span than many other games. You couldn't find a better game for any console. " ~Console Monster |

UT2k4 should have at least beaten Halo 3. True you could dual wield guns in Halo 3, but you couldn't get a portable nuke launcher and go suicide bomber on a base containing 16 enemy players. |

#37: God Of War Release Date: March 22, 2005 Platform: Playstation 2 Developer: Sony Computer Entertainment Studios "Every once in a while a game comes along that pushes the boundaries, that takes risks and innovates without losing the qualities that make games so enjoyable – God of War is one of those games. It’s a “best of system” quality game, game of the year material, and more. If you own a PS2, you really need to own this game." ~The Gamers Temple #36: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 ![]() Release Date: October 28, 2001 Platforms: Playstation 2, Xbox, Gamecube Developer: Neversoft "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, honestly, is the best in the series. The controls are tweaked to perfection, the graphics are believably astounding, and there are more bands to listen to than ever...albeit, the songs played aren't too new. You get huger levels than ever before, and more interactivity in them. The bulkier and much better Create-A-Something’s (both player and park) expand the options. And, above all, this is the first PlayStation 2 game EVER with online capabilities! With those last few sentences said, I have no doubts that anyone who was a fan of the first two games in the series will find a new love on their PlayStation 2 with the sequel of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3" ~Gaming Target #35: Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Release Date: November 10, 2009 Platforms: Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC Developer: Infinity Ward "Two years ago Infinity Ward took a gamble by transplanting their successful Call of Duty series from the romanticized era of WW2 to the distressingly familiar landscapes of today's conflicts. That gamble paid off in a big way, and since then, the original MW has been one of the most-played online console shooters. Mixing real-world locations with bombastic set-pieces MW2 continues the guided, thrill-ride experiences of its predecessor, and adds even more depth to its multiplayer offerings. It might not have fixed all the problems from the first game, but there's just so much quality content packed into this game that it will almost certainly be one of the most-played games in your library for a long time to come." ~1Up #34: Resident Evil Code: Veronica Release Date: February 3, 2000 Platforms: Dreamcast, Playstation 2, Gamecube "In the end, Resident Evil: Code Veronica is the best game in the series, thanks to features like dynamic real-time camera angles, a wonderful linear story, and some of the best graphics seen on the Dreamcast. To call it a must-own game is a definite understatement. " ~Gamespot #33: Company of Heroes Release Date: September 12, 2006 Platform: PC Developer: Relic Entertainment "Company of Heroes is excellent; the best World War RTS ever made, and in many respects the best RTS in general...a perfect blend of intelligent strategy and powerful visceral action, delivering such a natural World War II experience you'll be left wondering if you're even allowed to enjoy it as much as you do." ~play.tm #32: Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory ![]() Release Date: March 28, 2005 Platforms: PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, PC Developer: Ubisoft "Originally Splinter Cell was meant to be played solo. The title even suggests that premise. Even though the solo mode makes a great single-player experience a little company is always welcome especially when it's handled as well as this. With so many gameplay options, modes and different strategies to try, Chaos Theory will provide you with an incredible amount of quality replay value. " ~Cheat Code Central #31: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Release Date: March 20, 2006 (PC, 360), March 20, 2007 (PS3) Platforms: Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC Developer: Bethesda Softworks "Here we have a game that is intelligent and uncompromising yet wonderfully easy to get involved with and enjoy. Yes there are problems with the levelling system, without these issues we’d be in danger of this actually being the proverbial perfect game. Perfection or not, Bethesda has created a milestone in gaming with Oblivion, a free-form adventure of such a high quality that I cannot do anything but offer our highest score. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is not perfect, but it’s the best game in town, avoid it at your peril. " ~Boomtown #30: Gears Of War Release Date: November 9, 2006 (360), November 6, 2007 (PC) Platforms: Xbox 360, PC Developer: Epic Games "At the end of the day there are not many videogames that really reach that status of great or amazing. The term memorable comes to mind instantly when thinking about Gears of War. Epic and Microsoft have really done something awesome here and we, as gamers, should be grateful. This game is one of those unique titles that will stand the test of time and go down in history as the “system seller” of the Xbox 360 in the year 2006...It’s going to be a while before I pick up another game and get the experience I just had over the past few days, but that’s not a bad thing, greatness takes time. There is a reason they are all playing it; it’s the best thing out there right now on our beloved white box, go buy it soldier." ~Planet Xbox #29: World Of Goo ![]() Release Date: October 13, 2008 Platforms: Wii, PC Developer: 2D Boy "World of Goo is breathtakingly fresh while built on the foundations of genre classics. It offers a gentle challenge as you make your way through its seasonal chapters the first time, and then a fiendish one as you try to fathom quite how it's possible to attain the OCD targets. And while it's doing all that, your spirit soars, elevated by the depth of love that's gone into it, and pours out of it. The addition of a social way to play is the cherry ice cream with cherry sauce and real chunks of fresh cherries on top." ~Eurogamer |
