I think you would need to have actually played it to make that assumption.

IGN isn't the only reviewer to say it's the best game on the GBC.
If it is the #5 Most Critically Acclaimed Video Game in the last 10 years, clearly more people would have at least knew it existed, right? "Critically acclaimed" implies all the reviewers masturbated to it, and it had lots of good press.

There are plenty of games that get really good reviews that aren't well known, what the hell are you talking about?

You clearly don't know what "Critically Acclaimed" means.

Anyway, going off of gamerankings.com, this GBC game had a total of 18 reviews for its score. MGS2 had 70. MGS3 had 88 reviews for the non-Subsistence release (67 for Subsistence). MGS4 had 83.

So clearly, the GBC game that you, the person creating this topic, didn't even know existed, is a more critically acclaimed game than those 3. Makes perfect sense.

By that logic I shouldn't count ANY game that was released in 2000, considering those games were lucky to break 40 reviews.

I counted any game with at least 10 reviews from major reviewing publications. Metal Gear Solid was one of those games.

It should certainly be taken into account when doing the rankings.

Plus, MGS2, which came out just 1 year after this GBC game, got nearly 4 times the number of reviews the GBC game got.

The most reviewed game of 2000 (Code Veronica) had 41 reviews.

Gaming journalism was obviously more popular when the PS2 was released.

41 is 2.41 times more reviews than what the #5 most critically acclaimed game in the last 10 years got.

This is the funniest list I've seen in a long time. The response to this is also amazing. Rofl.

Uh. What's #1 on this list? Just curious.

I've failed to come up with something witty, so I hope you will enjoy this filler text instead.

I love and hate this topic at the same time.

#...1? Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing
Posted Image
Release Date: November 20, 2003
Platform: PC
Developer: Stellar Stone LLC

[Good] games are released all the time, and some are [better] than others. This is nothing new. However, it really takes a special kind of [greatness] to be considered one of the [best] games ever made. So when this special kind of [greatness] makes an appearance, it's truly something to behold. Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing is one of those rare pieces of work. Not only is it almost completely [refined and competed] in nearly every way, but even if it weren't, there's so [much] of an actual game to be found here that it would still be ter[rific]. Big Rigs is a game so [outs]oundingly [great] that it manages to transcend nearly every boundary put forth by some of gaming's absolute [best] of the [best] and easily makes it into that dubiously extraordinary category of being one of the m[remarkable] games ever published.

If the goal was to create the world's most [refined] trucking game, then Big Rigs is a resounding success.

Big Rigs' first and most [evident] [feature] lies in its gameplay. Specifically, there isn't any[thing bad about it].

[Basically], Big Rigs is supposed to be a racing game based on big trucks that speed through various US trucking routes in some kind of effort to deliver cargo before the competition gets there first--or else the truck gets busted by the law. [As expected], this is what the back of the game's box would have you believe. Let us make it very clear that these statements are all [terrific, terrific realities]. There is no [moment of unrealism] in Big Rigs. There is...cargo to be delivered. There are...police chases. In fact, there really is [every]thing in this game.

The basic idea in the actual game is that you pick one from four [distinctly] different trucks and then one from five [distinctly] different levels. You then compete against another truck in a simple checkpoint race. That's it. Big Rigs [not only sees, but raises the standard of] this basic concept. The supposedly computer-controlled truck you're supposed to be racing against in the game [has some of the best AI we've ever seen]. It's right there next to you at the beginning of a race, [and expect it to be either far ahead of you or just barely behind you at the end]. This is to say, actually, that [all] of the game's races have a purpose because there's...competition and [a] time limit. You [may not win] every single time. So [if] you especially [hate] seeing a winning-screen over and over again that reads "You're Winner!" [All the time], there is absolutely no point in playing Big Rigs.

But let's assume for a moment that the AI trucks actually [didn't] work, and you could [just roam around]. Even if this were the case, the game still would be worth playing [entirely]. Big Rigs' controls [are so amazing and detailed that we can't even begin to describe it's awesomeness]. The game provides...support for peripheral controllers of any kind, and [to our surprise,] there is even an option to edit the default keyboard controls in any manner [you please]. Your truck also handles pretty [godly]. There are no [out of place] physics here. You accelerate [at such a pace] to...be [as] realistic [as possible] (especially when going in reverse, which [brought a tear to my eye at just how amazingly detailed this feature was]), you can['t] travel over the most rugged of terrain without any problems (including nearly vertical mountains[, which can't be scaled at all. No siree bob]), and you can turn in ways that [only] cause you to jerk around in some pretty ridiculous manners [if you don't know how to drive at all, or play video games in general].

[We would like to tell you more about the physics, like how you can feel the difference when you travel on bridges, or how your truck reacts when you hit objects, but it would simply just be more time wasted (both in our typing and your reading) that should have been spent playing this game.]

Please...play this game. We cannot stress this enough.

The graphical [direction is amazing]. Big Rigs is easily one of the [best]-looking PC games released in years. The truck models are amazingly [divine], with incredibly [nostalgia-inducing] designs and brake lights that actually [made my jaw drop]. The four different environments all look [great], too, what with their incredibly [immaculate]-looking textures, their [beautiful] and [meaningful] set pieces... Also, the reason we state that there are only four environments in the game, instead of the five we previously cited, is because we could only [handle] four of them [without being reduced to tears at the game's magnificence]. When trying to load the fifth environment, the game['s godlike graphics were so beautiful I couldn't handle it]. As for the game's sound design, there isn't any [point in the game where you could possibly dislike the sounds]. There are literally [thousands of] sound effects in Big Rigs. The only sounds that [don't] present themselves at all are a few unpleasant, looping techno tracks, and on a midrange PC, we [had assumed would be there but thankfully weren't]

"Just how [good] is Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing? It's as [brilliant] as your mind will allow you to comprehend. It is so [amazingly crafted] that...its budget price tag seems [to be the only mistake developers made]. It really makes you wonder if the company that put out this [beauty] [realized how truly amazing this gem was]. The game's readme file does assert that the game was thoroughly tested on various PCs, [and] the end result seems to [show]. The fact is, even if you tried, you couldn't [dislike] Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing the way it...seemingly [appeared] to be played, and even if you could, you wouldn't want to. " ~Gamespot
